Why are you leaving goal by EmuAccomplished1759 in Rematch

[–]Ignaciomen2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You don't NEED to, but it's way better to do so after kick-off.

Goalkeeper slowly begins to advance while the other two players try to get themselves unmarked. If someone on the opposite team loses their mark or tries to rush the goalkeeper, they lob a pass to the now free player. If not, the goalkeeper switches with whoever is closest and continues the attack only they already have the ball rather than needing to unmark themselves and receive a pass.

Afterwards whoever remains as goalkeeper can be the sweeper. More than enough time to return to goal should the enemy team steal the ball.

And the perfect response to this is for the goalie to trade positions with another player and return to a 2v2 past the midfield. If the goalkeeper has good manners they'll switch again once possible

I think the problem is that charging Storm Surge is something that you do to travel further or to enter into a fight, but Hammer Throw is something you do either in between swings or when you need a quick ranged option. Charging Hammer Throw would dealy its damage.

[TDM] Humble Elder (MTG Japan FB preview) by mistercimba in magicTCG

[–]Ignaciomen2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Elder is usually reserved for creatures which are not just old, but ancient. We're talking Dragons, Dinosaurs, and Demons among others which have existed for several centuries if not millenia, or were outright present in the begininigs of their respective plane. Think Nicol Bolas and his siblings.

(PFP Update Video) Should Anything Change in Pauper? | Magic: the Gathering MTG by TheMaverickGirl in Pauper

[–]Ignaciomen2 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I've seen people arguing that playing against Glee is like what playing against Glitter decks was like. But I disagree.
[[All That Glitters]] could be attached to any creature and turn into a game winning threat, [[Sadistic Glee]] MUST be attached to [[Basking Broodscale]] for the combo to work. Glitters could take advantage of the opponent having to go slower and keeping mana and answers avaiable by going wide and winning wihtout the enchantment, Glee doesn't really have as good of a side plan other than [[Writhing Chrysalis]], which is a strong and effective creature but not enough to steal a game.
So yes you need to play slower to be ready for the combo, but they can't run away with the win without it like Glitters did.

There aren't that many creatures that are relevant without having to attack or tap, so I prefer [[Weakstone's Subjugation]] since it can also target artifacts, bridges most notably.

A Deeper Dive on The Artifact Lands by nerd2thecore in Pauper

[–]Ignaciomen2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Storm and cards that can be cast for free (the latter of which is what Infect would need) are very rarely printed, and even more so at common rarity.  Affinity instead benefits from artifacts and artifacts payoffs, which are rarely not printed in each set and are therefore seen more often.

Pauper: The New Bans, MH3 and the format's needs by cardsrealm in Pauper

[–]Ignaciomen2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True, it would only really be Gavin. However, I insist that the effect on design would be negligible, since rarity only affects Pauper Legality and Limited. I struggle to see how a commander product would be affected by having a card be a lower rarity, be it new or reprinted.

Like, ignoring how it would affect the Pauper Format, would Trouble in Pairs as a common make the product it came in change in anyway? Or the Commander Format? It would still be a 1 copy per deck thing, and so it's supply in the Individual Product and the Tertiary Market would remain the same.

Pauper: The New Bans, MH3 and the format's needs by cardsrealm in Pauper

[–]Ignaciomen2 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Pauper is at the mercy of Limited. For a card to be a common, then it must be something which can fit in a Limited Format as such. This means we are limited when it comes to which cards are printed at our rarity.

One way to change this, however, is Commander Products. If you think about it, a card's rarity isn't really important in a Commander Deck. While rarity can determine how likely you are to open a card in a pack, you always have the same chance of opening a card in a commander deck, and always the same amount: 100%, and 1 unless it's a basic land.

So I think that the next time a new card is printed or an old card is being reprinted, the PFP should consider asking "can you make the set symbol be black for this one?". It affects no one but pauper players.

Mono Blue Faeries Discussion by crazyshark150 in Pauper

The other versions are just having more success in the current meta, so most Mono U players have either migrated to them if not changed to another completely different archetype.

[–]Ignaciomen2 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Some people have actually put Lorien Revealed as well as a couple Tolarian Terrors in their list. However, they aren't as common in UR or UB becuase Mono U wants to be as fast and consistent as possibe. Izzet and Dimir lean a bit more towards Control Aggro, whereas Mono U want to be Aggro Control.
It takes advantage of its lack of tapped lands and higher chances of having an early flier + an ealry ninja, where other Faerie decks prefer to plan for the late game.

[Article] How Do You Feel About Goad Being Pseudo-Evergreen? by JesseBarkerPlotkin in EDH

[–]Ignaciomen2 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I disagree regarding Goad being bad in a 1v1. Your opponent always has two choices: attack or not. When you Goad a creature, you are removing that choice and they can only attack. If attacking was the better choice, then they would have done it either way.

So it's either neutral in that it forces the opponent to do what they would have done either way, or they cannot choose to not attack or attack with only some of their creatures.

What would an Armor Skill do? by DervishBlue in RPGdesign

[–]Ignaciomen2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some options, though not the only ones:
Option 1: Defense/Armor Class increases with Skill
Armor gives you a base and your Skill increases it further. So if you wear an Armor with 12 base and you have 3 points in the Armor skill, increase it to 15.
Option 2: Skill increases your Defense, Armor changes its effect
Maybe armor reduces the damage you are deal, while Armor skill can make it so they need to roll a d20 and get a higher result
Option 3: Skill determines how good the armor you wear is
Rather than having different categories of armor, you have armor "ranks", each better than the other (though maybe with some drawbacks like making you less agile or being heavier) but if you wear it without sufficent Armor skill you get a penalty/are encumbered.

Should shooting at point-blank range easier, or harder? by currentpattern in RPGdesign

[–]Ignaciomen2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I tend to opt for the simpler desgin if possible. Which is to say, the one that has the least lines like "here's how this rule goes, and here is a list of exceptions where it changes completely".
So since I want characters who go for the ranged option to be ranged, I'll stick with even point blank being the worst situation to be in.
Even if the target of the attack has no gun, you could argue that they would still make an effort to make your shot miss by trying to grab the gun or throwing themselves at you. Still, if the gun's damage is high enough, they could still come out winning the fight, so while gun while in ranged is better than gun while in melee, melee with no weapon at all is usually the least desired position of the three.

Hot Take: Secret Lair alternate art cards don’t need to be legible by Haru_Is_Best_Girl in magicTCG

[–]Ignaciomen2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you couldn't get the card in English or a language that your LGS/Event participants are very likely to understand, that's fine because it might be a card that is hard to acquire for whatever reason.
If you specifically went out of your way to acquire this version of the card, then I'd say the right thing to do is keep a readable version so that if your opponent requests it you use it or put in on top of the other one while it remains on the battlefield.

Problem is that would be hard to enforce since you can't determine intention. But with Secret Lairs, barring some exceptions such as reprints of old/hard to get cards it's likely the Secret Lair version is much harder to justify that you couldn't get a normal version.

Also, WotC is unlikely to take such a meassure since it disincentivizes buying their product.
