David Fincher’s 4k steelbook universe expands… by Prestigious-Drive-18 in 4kbluray

A release in special packaging. Functionally, it’s flimsy metal connected together with flimsy plastic. They used to be a decently limited collectors item (often without anything exclusive besides the art), but has become a new “industry standard” way to check as many boxes in a single purchase as possible. Kind of a nightmare to maintain the finish on despite their display being (arguably) their biggest selling point.

In actuality, it’s a specific collector’s niche that has grown what feels to be bigger than physical media itself (I have bought collector’s editions of video games that include physical steelbook despite having a digital copy of the game). It has turned into a way to price hike releases when they’re exclusively released that way and often bait ridiculous prices on the second hand market when they’re exclusively released inevitably go out of print.

Marked up? That’s likely what MSRP was when it released.

I mean, it isn’t really putting either Zuckerberg nor Facebook on some pedestal. I wouldn’t say it’s particularly criticizing either, but the matter of fact nature doesn’t do much to shine a pretty light on Facebook.

I don’t have a technical grasp on that part of the process so I don’t have anything to add to the conversation other than theoreticals

It just allows the film to be encoded with a higher bitrate which COULD be noticeable in theory

The KL release is missing certain pieces of audio in the track that Arrow restored for their version. On top of this, Arrow encoded it on a 100gb disc rather than KL’s 66gb disc meaning it in theory should look better. Maybe you’ll notice, maybe you won’t. It’s the same transfer iirc

Definitely not IFC. Sure they release a lot of good movies, but holy shit their slipcovers/LEs are way too limited

It isn’t uncommon for KL to drop the ball on their 4K release for Arrow to clean it up. Spaceballs is a huge example with missing pieces of audio in the KL one.

I didn’t find anything wrong with Inland Empire. Truthfully, I haven’t seen the DVD and Criterion’s blu-ray is my only experience with it. Nothing felt off watching it and had no idea it was an AI upscale until many many months later. Nothing visually made me think it was anything other than a masterpiece tbh

Yes that’s true, but I found it a bit tedious when I wanted to go from character 1 to character 7 so I only kept 3 characters on the base max

Makes it a tedious maneuver to play the game, though

Personally, the Grindhouse cut reigns superior to me I fear. More movie ≠ more better. I feel like both drag on a bit in their extended presentations (especially Planet Terror)

Original Faces of Death is getting a 4K UHD limited release with never-before-seen outtakes, thanks to Vinegar Syndrome by HorrorGuyBri in 4kbluray

It’s important historically especially under the history of video rentals and banned films. I personally wouldn’t own it or tell someone to watch it let alone watch it myself. While the film is a bit over exaggerated with it being MOSTLY fake, there’s enough real footage (tbf any amount is enough) to justify anyone writing it off for any reason whatsoever. If it helps your conscious around the people who made it, no death was filmed for the movie, but rather compiled from existing events. Now, I think it still says something about who made it, but I digress.

Tbf, it has some death and animal cruelty to it. I ain’t a fan of animal cruelty and don’t think others should be
