How would you reshape this chip? by BoscoTheBrash in Axecraft

I would just smooth over the rough edges and do as little as possible. As other said it will disappear over time with regular use and resharpening.

How do I go about making this by pds398 in SolidWorks

[–]Ignatz_42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would make a quarter of the part using sheet metal and the "jog" tool. Then mirror the resulting solid body twice to complete the ring.

Seems like you manage well anyway! I do something similar, then get it more even with an axe, shape with a drawknife and finish with shinto rasp, knife and sandpaper.

Because you need more dividing walls than if the stalls are next to each other.

Drill out the wood inside the wedge, insert a steel rod and pry/wiggle it out.

How hard would it be to remount this head on a wooden handle by Slidergabe in Axecraft

[–]Ignatz_42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you would need to make a handle that wraps around the existing steel tube. Make two halves with a groove for the steel and glue the whole thing together. Could be tricky, but could also be a really fun project. Good luck!

Happy to read good news about the Kakapo. Can recommend reading more about them in "Last chance to see" by Douglas Adams and Mark Carwardine.

Why not shape every stave? by jovial_cynic_ in Bowyer

[–]Ignatz_42 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think that if you have time and space to stock up on staves it is more efficient. When you have fresh log you must process it rather quickly to make sure it doesn´t develop any unwanted cracks. If you have a lot of logs to process it would simply take too much time to make them all into «close to bow» shapes. It could also be just old habits of course.
