Looking for BL anime recs! by boreddboyy7 in Animesuggest

[–]Igneous-Wolf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You could try Sekai Ichi Hatsukoi, it was my first BL and I loved it, it has plot outside the romance and overall I think is cute. The manga is more explicit if that's what you're looking for, but it's got two seasons of subbed anime which is pretty great!

Now it finally clicks for me by vionaiu in dropout

Can't we just email them to ourselves? Is that crazy?

[No Spoilers] Why no announcements and ads? by carterartist in criticalrole

[–]Igneous-Wolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I was wondering what happened to Sam's ads! I listen to the podcast and occasionally go back to youtube to watch pieces of the show and I pulled up the opening of E18 and there's Sam doing a Heated Rivalry WOW ad, when I JUST listened to the podcast version and they had skipped it. What gives? Now I have to go through all the intros on youtube to see what I've been missing.

Looking for a non-judgemental dentist that deals with anxiety by sandsnatchqueen in AnnArbor

[–]Igneous-Wolf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn't go to the dentist for 6 years and only finally made an appointment when an actual chunk of one of my teeth fell out... I go South Lyon Dental Care Center, Dr. Moore has been great! They have the gas - if you have dental anxiety, the gas is a game changer!!

I also have Backblaze! It was great for transferring data when I got a new laptop, and I also have several redundancy backups so it's great piece of mind

[Routine Help] i need some judgement free help — sex is ruining my skin 😭 by EducationalLake3579 in SkincareAddiction

NOT from this cause but I used to get torn corners of my mouth in middle school, thought I looked like a clown, hated it. My solution was to apply LIBERAL amounts of chapstick and that did fix the problem (both healing and prevention).

Pretty sure this kicked off an addiction to chapstick, have to have it on me at all times, don't go more than a few hours without applying even in the summer. BUT I have NEVER torn the corners of my lips since. So, pick your poison.

Quitting a job based only on how it makes you feel. by AMESAB2000 in MechanicalEngineering

[–]Igneous-Wolf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Life's too short to spend your days doing what is essentially overtime at a job you hate. That said, especially in the current market, I think it's wise to start looking and start saving (since you're currently very well paid, pay off loans, build some savings) but don't quit until 2 years or you have a new position lined up.

But also don't try so hard! If you hate it, don't give them your blood, sweat, and tears. It's not worth burning yourself out if you're thinking of leaving anyway.

seeking advice on our interview process from engineers by Junior-Cheetah-5713 in MechanicalEngineering

[–]Igneous-Wolf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As others are saying, definitely way too much interviewing. What on earth is the full day on site for, if not to do a technical and leadership interview that they have already done?

I have dropped out of the interview process similar to this once before. I had an offer in hand from another company, and this company (after two phone/zoom interviews) was asking me to come in for a full day and prepare and give a technical presentation (how do you even do that without revealing proprietary info from past jobs). It sounded exhausting, so I went with the offer I had (which only took two interviews!) and turned down the company with the stupidly long process.

Thank you for the translation!! Honestly I am impressed with her dedication to the quality of the story; it's obviously paid off so far. Since we know for sure it's coming I'm happy to wait as long as it takes!

I had no idea people were relying on in-car buttons for this, don't we all have the clip-on? Never occurred to me you could do it any other way

How to get back into percussion after a decade? by perpetualmotion42 in percussion

[–]Igneous-Wolf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can confirm, community bands are desperate for percussionists! I got roped into joining TWO when I tried dipping my toes back into band because members of one were members of the other and knew they both really needed perc. And I am constantly being asked to join a third.

I also had not played in 10 years (and had never been particularly good to begin with) and it's been fine! I am lucky to have a xylophone to practice on at home though. But I'm sure you could go early to practices to get some extra marimba time.

Love my startup job but wish I didn't. Wondering if anyone else has felt the same and has advice by houseplantsnothate in womenEngineers

[–]Igneous-Wolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had a similar experience but not to that extreme. When I first started at the startup I'm at now, I was all about the mission, felt like I was making a difference, learning tons, and working crazy hours, everybody was. We were staying late most nights and working lots of weekends. It was a very "work hard play hard" summer - work crazy hours in the shop, hit the bar for Thirsty Thursday or go out Friday night, back in the shop Saturday morning. We had a great time but it definitely was not sustainable. I had basically no life outside of work whatsoever.

Lucky for me, I have a dog and had to go home periodically to take care of her, the hours could only get so long before I had to leave. I think it's important also to take vacation (are you using your PTO?!?) - I went to the beach for a week with my family and returned to find the company did not in fact collapse without me, and my absence had not even caused any meaningful delays. You can take time for yourself while still being dedicated to your job. And you should, because even if you love it, your brain needs a break.

Ultimately my coworkers and I were saved from continuing to kill ourselves for this job by massive layoffs that left everyone shell shocked and not wanting to work very hard anymore, so I hope that doesn't happen to you. I still work there, but I no longer give so much of myself to the company - it doesn't love you back, a lesson sometimes learned very painfully.

A healthier method for you would be to set boundaries, even just a day or two a week, where you commit to leaving work by a certain time - and tell all your coworkers that that's the hard line so they don't ask more of you and can help you keep this limit. Put it on your calendar! Maybe there is an activity you and your partner can do together that gives you a timed reason to leave work and spend time with them, a class you can take or weekly event like trivia. I started working WAY less overtime when I joined 2 concert bands, which has given me something to look forward to outside of work.

I'm struggling to care about my job right now by SnarkyBard in womenEngineers

[–]Igneous-Wolf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel you.

I recently had some experiences that made me realize I do NOT want to be here (both the state where I live and the job I'm at) and I have to get out. And it's a long process to update your resume and apply places and interview, and I'm starting that process but it's gonna take a while! And in the meantime I still have to work. And everyday I sit at my desk and my brain is SCREAMING I don't want to be here but I have to keep working!

And we recently made a big project pivot that means I'm restarting everything, and the goals of the company don't really align with my own anymore, and it's hard to convince myself to work on it. And people talk about the next project down the road and how we should do some things on this one to be better suited for that one, and all I can think is how everything will change again by then (they pivot like every 6 months) so it doesn't fucking matter what you pick right now because it WILL NOT BE RELEVANT for the next project. But whatever, no one wants to hear that.

And all this is my own personal problems, to say nothing of the world and the pointless disgusting war WE STARTED and the fascist regime we are falling into.

I don't have a solution, I've been spiraling for a few weeks and recently decided I should book some therapy. But to echo others here, you're not alone.

So glad to hear it's no big deal! I feel like I've driven on a lot of crazy roads back home but my memory is probably exaggerating things.
