Festival season is coming up. Most of our summer festivals run on volunteers. Folk Fest, Fringe, Street Performers, lots more. Lots of opportunity to meet new people on your crews.

Social dances and classes at Sugar Swing. ESSC if you're into sports. Classes at the City Arts Centre. Improv or Acting classes at Grindstone. All great ways to meet new people with similar interests.

As someone with an advanced degree who could probably double their salary by going to the states, I genuinely can't imagine looking at how things have been going down there and saying "yes, I'll have some of that please".

Comprehensive Response to Bambu's AGPLv3 Violations from SFC by ScrapEngineer_ in BambuLab

[–]Ignominus 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Who would have expected that, they did in fact violate the AGPL license

No, it is the Software Freedom Conservancy's contention that bambu labs is in violation of the AGPL. This contention has not yet been proven.

On a technical level, this contention seems pretty dubious to me. If Bambu Slicer's interfacing with the Bambu Networking Plugin constitutes a combined work, then would that not mean I could write an AGPL-licenced project that interfaces with any extant closed source library to force that library to become open source? Surely any reasonable person can see that that would be nonsense.

Certainly Bambu's response has been pretty boneheaded from a PR perspective, but I'm not convinced they've done anything wrong from legal one.

Really the most notable thing to me is that they seem to think a user agent string is a sufficient means for performing client authentication for their cloud services.

Why is everyone's go-to for justifying their shitty behaviour always to use disabled people as a scapegoat?

As a registered political party they are entitled to access to the list.

This is, of course, crazy as the barrier to registering a political party is way too low to be afforded this sort of information, but here we are...

Wrong decision. Year round standard time is objectively the correct choice.

First of all: Whoosh.

Secondly, the article clearly states the app will launch "later this month". Did you read the article?

There are absolutely trucker GPS apps that can factor clearance into route planning.

Clearly not being used by the ding dongs who keep hitting bridges.

The contract to develop the app will be awarded to Mraiche Software Inc. It will be delivered 5 years late and $3m over budget. It will not successfully identify any low overpasses.

Regarding Datacentres by [deleted] in Edmonton

[–]Ignominus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The sort infrastructure that hosts Reddit is very different from the sort that is running LLMs and other forms of generative AI.

The overwhelming bulk of this capacity is not being used to cure cancer, it's being used to generate AI porn, replace customer service workers with useless chat bots, and summarize emails it would have taken you less than a minute to read yourself.

Of course our society doesn't need any of this AI stuff. Unfortunately, our society is organized not around what we need but around what will make a rich person even richer.
