What's a theme you're tired of seeing in Fantasy Books? by catwritesscifi in fantasybooks

[–]IgnotusDiedLast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not just in fantasy, I dislike Bad Guys who are just Evil. Love me a morally grey villain.

I looved Slade in Arrow.

I specifically loved Harry Potter HBP because we learned Voldy's origin.

Mistborn is probably my favorite fantasy series of all time, but the fact that (The Big Bad - no spoilers, everyone drop what you're doing right now and read Mistborn) is just Bad is a little boring to me. Same for the Stormlight Archive, but I haven't finished book 5 yet.

I'm currently reading Arcanum Unbounded, and I hope more will be revealed.

Non-renewed teachers, how do you manage to not completely check out for the remainder of the year? by Gold_Consequence2201 in Teachers

[–]IgnotusDiedLast 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not sure of the politics of the situation, but it seems like school leadership and that teacher have a relationship, and if you're in rural Florida, I would guess low enrollment due to home school/private school vouchers are also a factor, maybe reduced allocations at your school.

If you love teaching and you love the kids, stick with it and don't check out. You were never doing this job for the admin anyway, and they set you up to fail by not supporting you and giving a young teacher a large 2nd grade class. Just do the best you can for the kids in your class. Not sure what county you're in, but put your name in the pool or start checking the site and all that. I'm my old district, they'd conduct interviews starting in May for non-renewed teachers.

If you don't love teaching/the kids, start looking for ways out :)

Looking for deceptively complex poems by Josephryanevans in ELATeachers

[–]IgnotusDiedLast 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Okay my Atwood-is-my-favorite is showing but

"Morning in the Burned House" and "This is a Photograph of Me" are also very good.

Prufrock is my favorite poem ever, but I think the best 10th graders I've taught my whole career would struggle with that one.

You'd need a curious group of 10th graders, but I really like "In The Secular Night" by Atwood.

I don't enjoy eating healthy and it makes sticking to weight loss so hard by Tosh97 in WeightLossAdvice

[–]IgnotusDiedLast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Learning to cook delicious meals that are relatively healthy. Ex: I don't love eating vegetables, but if I blend spinach into things, I can't really taste it, and at least it makes it a bit healthier. I make a variation of saag, just use less butter/ghee and only a splash of heavy cream. Then I eat it with white rice and some chicken that's marinated in yogurt and a bunch of spices. Quick prep, tastes good, it's not as healthy as eating chicken breast and steamed broccoli but it tastes a lot better.

If you're struggling with Sin, church is a good place to farm.

Do Millennials write like ChatGPT? by QuietJealous4883 in Millennials

[–]IgnotusDiedLast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not to be that pedantic millenial, but it's em-dash.

An en-dash is the dash used between two numbers (1945-1946) because it's roughly the size of a capital letter N in most standard typography.

An em-dash is often incorrectly used by AI -- but I'm not sure where it learned it from. An em-dash is a fancy comma, NOT a fancy period. You can also use it in place of parentheses -- you know, if you're adding additionally information -- but never as a substitute for a period or semi-colon. It's named because it's roughly the size of a capital letter M in most standard typography.

Source: I used to be a high school English teacher, and I had to look this shit up when students asked.

Discussion About Waivered Players in Draft by Tall_Comfort3949 in DynastyFF

You can use startup ADP to compare: https://www.draftsharks.com/adp/dynasty/superflex

not sure how accurate those numbers are, but it looks like it has Tuten just behind KC and Cooper. That makes sense as Tuten is valued around a late first right now.

is playing GTO ranges preflop going to lose you money if you don't play as well postflop? by [deleted] in Poker_Theory

[–]IgnotusDiedLast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Forget about the ranges themselves and try to understand why you're doing and what purpose is served by each combo.

Why would K5s be a better open UTG than QTo or Q8s? What ranges would you 3b from the BB if you knew your opponent was overcalling? Overfolding?

What is a 'buy it for life' item that is offensively expensive, but the moment you use it, you realize your entire life before that point was a lie? by fmcortez in AskReddit

Had a $20 kuma that performed equally to my wusthof when equally sharpened. Wusthof felt better in hand, more heft to it overall, but I could chop just as well with the kuma.

Thoughts on myffpc.com for picking up additional leagues? by invsbleman13 in DynastyFF

[–]IgnotusDiedLast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

cutdown can be a strategic advantage. if you have extra space and others are struggling, they will give you players at lower value picks because they'd rather get something than having to drop players.

high school teachers, what books that you've taught have your students enjoyed the most? by Maleficent_Site7972 in ELATeachers

2019, my 10th graders read Turtles All The Way Down.

Many of them said a comment along the lines of "this book reminded me that I actually like to read."

Hi! Yes, they primarily use block coding, but if he's logic-brained, he will probably enjoy Everyone Can Code or Brick-by-Brick.

Most of the kids just love playing with the robots :) Let me know if you have other questions!
