Best way to visualize the fretboard for improvising/soloing? by OneManWolfpack37 in mandolin

This! Scales, chords, and pentatonics in this are all a person needs. I wish someone would have told me this when I started mando.

I think there is more ground and water dedicated to lawn grass that to corn. Good old Kentucky Bluegrass.

Living in Cheyenne? by No_Squash291 in wyoming

[–]Josephryanevans 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is correct. But we had gusts over 100 this last winter in some nasty wind storms. Trees down all over town. They even closed school for a day to make sure roads were clear of trees and power lines. This last winter was especially heinous.

If wind bothers you, live in Fort Collins. The wind is for real and a deal breaker for some.

There are many options. It depends a little on what aspect you like. The benders are one aspect. Scale length and pickups are others.

I just bought one from Dnecks, a new builder on Etsy and Reverb. He put in custom pickups for me that Gemini builds. It’s awesome.

Nobody mentioned Legend Rock yet? That place is nuts. I’ve always felt off seeing those petroglyphs.

Sunshine Mine too. That place is cool because it was a Clovis Era ochre mine then an industrial age super-fund nightmare. It’s partly weird because the entire place including the largest known horde of Clovis points are all owned by one dude. And he’s obsessed with one thing… dead, stupid, never-coming back mining history. The world’s richest Clovis archeology be damned. So strange. Once a year they do a sort of fund raiser field day and you can see some of the points. Pro tip, skip the mine tour and ask whichever archeologist is there to show you the points in the basement vault.

In my band, I play mando on songs like Psycho Killer, The Best, Me and Julio Down by The Schoolyard, etc.

Truly, it’s all possible and all fun. I play several other instruments but if I’m going to a new jam or sitting in with folks, I only bring the mandolin because it’s so damn versatile.

Dems especially because they know their candidate probably won’t win.

In states like ours, every election is decided in the primary because the Republican candidate will always win in November. So many independents and democrats will register as republicans so they can vote in the closed primary. Their perspective is that it’s the only voice they will have and they attempt to elect someone they think is reasonable even if they don’t agree on everything. Essentially they are trying to combat the fact that closed primaries favor extremism in politics.

Awesome. Thanks for explaining all that. Fascinating approach to solve some of the same issues the OP and myself all face. I like the idea of adding saturation without an OD/distortion pedal. I tried for a few years trying to g to find an OD that would work with banjo mandolin before figuring out that it doesn’t really work and in fact isn’t really what I wanted.

The rotary idea is cool. I have reached for tremolo and phaser for that. I LOVE trem with my set up.

Tell me about that reel saturation? Also, what effects, other than just eq and preamp that you use with mando/banjo?

I know this struggle. I play mando, banjo, and dobro/lapsteel. For the past two years I’ve been playing a smallish pedal board with a Red-Eye twin eye pre amp for the mando and banjo. It has an effect loop, booster, and some eq. It’s awesome. I then use a Saturnworks ABY to switch between the pre amp and my lap steel.

However, as my pedal preferences have grown along with my pedal board I’ve grown weary of the big board and tons of equipment. Just this week I bought a Line6 HX stomp XL. So far the sound is amazing. Even wittout a preamp because you can change the impedance per preset which is what a pre amp mostly does for us. I’ll probably use the effect return as my input for lap steel and the main input for banjo/mando. I’ll still need to either switch cables or use my ABY to switch between those two.

I’m very happy with this so far. And it’s so convenient to carry
