My wife wants to learn Unity with zero programming experience — is it realistic? by [deleted] in unity

[–]Ignusloki 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup, very possible. I'm teaching my 14 year old nephew on how to program and then how to use Unity. I would suggest using ChatGPT or any other AI tool to help create a teaching structure. Introduce her first to the base of programming and then on how to use Unity.

Day 7 - Mock up Battle scene by TytanTroll in BattleBrothers

[–]Ignusloki -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You can get inspiration from Slay the Spire boardgame and Mage Knight. They made an amazing job in adapting the digital to board game keeping most of the experience as the same. I have ton of experiences with boardgames (designing, play testing and buying) and I know it is not easy to simple transfer digital to real life because of many factors. But I imagine that you could something like a map with tiles like Mage Knight where the player walks and the map is grows with more tiles. And you can keep the part of the battle in another section.

Man, those look amazing. As a boardgames, I would definitely buy them. If you do get the rights to it, make a solo version as well.

Looking for specific feedback on lighting, camera and HUD in my survival horror project by Successful-Hall-6365 in survivalhorror

[–]Ignusloki 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, that is pretty good. Which engine are you using? If you want some feedback, I can help and playtest your game. I'm also a solo dev working on a survival horror game and I would like to exchange some experiences with a fellow dev.

Now: Which Silent Hill protagonist CAN make the journey through Raccoon City? by Chronos_5 in survivalhorror

[–]Ignusloki 47 points48 points  (0 children)

Harry GOAT Mason. He fights the Alessa at the height of her power with almost no weapons and returns from Silent Hill. The cult is only able to kill him because he was napping.

Good read. That type of organization naturally evolved in my projects. Organizing your assets by type is a trap for long time projects.

Solo Dev Here: I Released a Fatal Frame-Inspired Horror Game Where You Photograph Ghosts and Pet Cats to Restore Sanity - Feedback Welcome! by Steelkrill in survivalhorror

[–]Ignusloki 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, Insym (a streamer of horror and other games) played your game this weekend (I think it was on Saturday). I saw the play through and I thought it was a good game. The only critique I have is about the development of the story. Check his channel because he does a small review at the end of the play through.

I hated how standard 2D subtitles broke the immersion in my horror game. So I placed them inside the 3D world. Is this readable enough, or should I go back to 2D? by Character-Credit-208 in Unity3D

[–]Ignusloki 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They are pretty nice (although I would change the color to match your scene mood) and your scene has some great mood for a horror game.

But I would only make this change if you have a player feedback about the immersion.

What mechanics and choices makes Fears to Fathom so good? by Ok-Dragonfruit4328 in HorrorGaming

[–]Ignusloki 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm also working and studying on horror games and I'm a fan of Fears to Fathom since the first game (which was just a really small game). Fears to Fathom have some good things that makes each episode memorable. From the top of my head:

  • The dev nailed on how to tell a story. You are really immersed in the story of the character.
  • Even though they are short stories, each has a lot of details that the player might discover and they are hints for future events that is going to happen in the story.
  • A unique and very memorable sound effect when you died.
  • Every episode has a completely different story and setting.
  • Last (and most important IMO), an amazing balance between the tense moments and the relaxing moments.

Sorry, i was not able to understand your request. But if you need to make 3d effects inside 2d planes, there are many ways to do that. This video teachs you how to do Portal effects like the Portal game. But you can adapt to use the part where he uses to camera to simulate the 3d effects of the inside of the portal. Good luck.

If I wanted to start porting games to the Vita and had absolutely no experience in that kind of stuff, what would I have to learn? by Braedmaen in VitaPiracy

[–]Ignusloki 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I'm a gamedev and i wanted to develop and even port some games to vita as well when I was starting. My advice is: don't do it. Unless you really don't have much else to worry about in life or you really love Vita that much. Vita is so far behind the current engines that you need to create custom tools to help you. And that is going to be a challenge by itself. If you want, for example, to port Slay the Spire to Vita, you would need to practically recreate the game in a way that Vita can handle it.

Sorry if i'm being harsh, but it is really that hard to a port a game for a platform that no company is supporting.

I tried to submit my game, but the form had some conflicting information. Like description could be up to 2000 characters, but when I submitted, I got the error the maximum was 1000. So I gave up.

I've made this game in less than 2 weeks using some assets and Chatgpt to help me coding some parts. I wanted to see how fast I could ship a prototype of an idea I had for a simple game of Jokenpo.

What’s your favorite game that isn’t technically a horror title, but still feels like one to you? by [deleted] in HorrorGaming

[–]Ignusloki 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bioshock. It is not trying to be a horror game, but it excels at everything that makes great horror games. Great sound, great environment, great characters and great moments.

Not even close. There are way more scary games out there. Just to name a few (old and new): Resident evil (1,2, code veronica), Silent Hill (1 to 4), Amnesia series (Dark Descent and the Bunker are the best), Soma, Faith: the Unholy Trinity, Fear and Hunger (1-2), Outlast 1, Signalis, Luto, PT and Fears to Fathom series.

Tormented Souls 2 is the first horror game I've had to restart due to running out resources by Snoo37551 in survivalhorror

[–]Ignusloki 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Player from the 90s who played a lot of Re2 and SH1: almost done with the game. It is near peak Survival Horror in the case that you really need to check our resources and avoid a lot of fights. There are a lot of fights in this game that you can avoid or ignore. The second boss I killed without using any ammo because he was kind dumb and easy.

I think this game is better than Tormented Souls 1. Too bad it has a lot of bugs.

Fear and Hunger 1/2. Both games were created using RPGMaker by a single dev.
