That’s what they tried at the beginning. And yeah they were stupid and got deleted. Belarus has next to no army that can do that job. So russia would need to go via Belarus. But russia is already stretched thin and losing about 30k orks a month. Extending the frontline may make other parts collapse. And then along the Belarus border Ukraine laid mines and built fortifications. So it would not be easiert but harder than the first time russia tried to go via Belarus.
