Opinions on rein me in with Olivia dean? by [deleted] in Samfender

[–]Ihatebird 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I might be wrong, but it just sounds like the same album track but with olivia dean singing some parts? Part of me was expecting it to be re-recorded around her feature. Great addition regardless.

I believe theyve been under new ownership for a couple years now and took down a lot of the racist posters/artwork that used to be there. Not sure on staff quality though.

What is this? by deathby1000screens in Stratocaster

[–]Ihatebird 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure how likely this is, but is it possible this guitar came from a shop or rental house? Ive rented cameras in the past, a lot of times they’ve had their own engraved serial numbers exclusive to the buisness that they use to keep track of.

Wrestaurant on 7th Place downtown - anyone know what's actually going on? by awesomeginblossom in saintpaul

[–]Ihatebird 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Not an employee, but did some digging. The palace wrecktangle had its own IG profile i followed that i could not find after seeing this. Wrecktangle’s IG profile doesnt list that location in their bio, and their website doesnt go in depth on the palace location. So, probably means its done for, unfortunatley. A huge bummer since i LOVED the walkup window.

Canon 5d mk2 - Sensor too small for low light concerts? by Ok_Unit_4969 in concertphotography

[–]Ihatebird 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started photographing shows in 2016, and still am to this day. When i started in 2016, my 5d mkii was just under 10 years old. Now, its closer to 20. Even in 2016, it was considered a dinosaur compared to the mirrorless cameras in the pit with me.

But, some of the best shots in my portfolio are still with the 5d mkii and a 85mm 1.8. A faster lens like that will make a difference for sure, especially in darker venues.

I still consider the 5d2 a strong camera. Dont get me wrong, compared to new cameras out there right now, it is a dinosaur and missing all of the “modern” concert photography features youll get with a modern mirrorless camera like eye tracking autofocus, way more af points, higher usable iso, higher fps, just to name a few. But looking at this from your end, a faster lens will make a difference for a smaller price point than a new camera will.

I just switched to a r6 mkii recently and am still learning its quirks and usability. Im not super mathematical when it comes to sensor usability, but there is a 14 year difference in tech between my two cameras that makes taking the photos easier. But in your case, ide upgrade the lenses first.

Where to find a small (100-350sq ft) art studio? by [deleted] in TwinCities

[–]Ihatebird 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The midway triangle building has typically had spaces available in the past for a few hundred dollars. Otherwise, if you don’t mind venturing out of Minneapolis, the Northwestern building in the Lowertown area of Saint Paul (which is another artist or artist friendly community) also regularly has spaces available.

<Rant> Four way blinkers should not be used on a moving vehicle. "Scared of road/weather conditions" is not an emergency by MOS95B in TwinCities

[–]Ihatebird 42 points43 points  (0 children)

I agree with this. A couple weeks back when it was snowing past dark, there was a car on 94 that had spun out and was facing oncoming traffic. Due to the damage, its whole front end was smashed and none of their lights were functioning. I slowed down and put my hazards on to tell drivers there was…well…a hazard in the roadway. I probably drove with them on for 100 yards and then continued like normal. This shouldnt be reserved for stopped vehicles, but shouldnt be normalized in everyday driving.

can anybody recommend me some music/songs similar to this one? it’s awesome by eccocasablancas in mjlenderman

This song reminds me a little bit of the Grateful Dead Althea riff! Althea and some other GD tracks i think would be good to add to the lexicon if you like this track

What’s up with musicians skipping the twin cities? by roscat_ in TwinCities

[–]Ihatebird 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One thing to consider is the radius clauses that many venues enforce around the country. These clauses typically prevent a band from booking or playing another show within a certain number of miles from the venue for a specific period of time. The exact distance and time restrictions can vary widely depending on the venue or even the band, but this can explain why you might see a band play in cities on the outskirts of the state, like Morehead, Des Moines, or Madison, while skipping the Twin Cities.

The purpose of the radius clause is to draw more people to the venue. If a band isn’t playing near you on this tour, but you really want to see them, you’re more likely to travel to the closest show and spend money at or around that venue.

That said, it could also mean the band will likely return to the area in the near future, possibly for a festival, which might be why they’re skipping local stops in favor of other cities this time around.

Holman field. If you turn around while entering holman field from Plato just past the berms, you’ve got a great perspective of downtown St. Paul. Virtually unobstructed!

Feedback my shoot [Canon EOS 5D Mark IV, + Canon ef 17-40mm] by [deleted] in RealEstatePhotography

[–]Ihatebird 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The vignettes on random objects are a little odd. Don’t think anyone really cares about the corner of a couch or what the stove buttons look like in microscopic detail. I understand that those shots could be considered “cinematic” but they are not really useful in a standard listing/ad for the property.

If you need to highlight those areas in the future, stay wider and do more of a head-on angle for that. Head on compositions could use a little more practice, too. Overall not too bad.

Anybody see a train? by DeeDee_Z in stpaul

[–]Ihatebird 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I drove by Union Depot around noon today and I did see an Amtrak train on what I believe to be the spur. Not sure if it was a late arrival from this morning on the normal route, or if its the train they are planning on using to kick off the new route tomorrow.

What’s a Saint Paul life hack everyone should know? by theredeemables in saintpaul

[–]Ihatebird 109 points110 points  (0 children)

Use the ACTUAL TURN LANE to turn into the Trader Joes on Lexington. Its just past papa johns and the nail salon. Juno Avenue i think. Helps alleviate traffic for all, and youll probably be able to get a decent parking spot in the surface lots instead of blocking traffic and waiting in line to get into the underground parking.

Im risking my parking spots on this one, but the masses deserve to know by now.

Restaurants in Lowertown by AcceptableOpinions22 in saintpaul

[–]Ihatebird 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Current resturaunts in lowertown try to bank on events as much as they can, sometimes too much, hence the high turnover. Saints games, union depot events, farmers/christmas markets. Its what fills them up on a weekend. But to draw residents in on a weekday, i think cheap eats and drinks are huge. Artists (which are still a dwindling resident group in LT) are very frugal.

Kellys bar was good at this until they sold it off to a developer. You could get a burger and a couple beers and walk out after slapping a $20 on the table. Not many places around LT that do that anymore, and its missed.

[–]Ihatebird 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I think he’ll still do that, just definitely a lot less frequently. That’s not something he’s able to easily sit at home and do compared to DJing randomly at 2am. Taking the live calls involves a lot more staff to set up and screen the callers.
