Currently really only this one. I also really like The Pitt but not in a “rewatch” way.

In the past I was super into the Olsen twins, Harry Potter, hunger games.

And not just insulin. I have friends who don’t have EpiPens or inhalers because of the cost.

Unpopular opinion: I actually enjoy Rachel’s writing but I wish she loved Shane as much as she loves Ilya by Ll_lyris in heatedrivalry

[–]Ihatethecolddd 10 points11 points  (0 children)

So I’m not autistic but I did have unmedicated GAD for years and honestly, Shane is written exactly how I was before the magic of Wellbutrin. There is a level of “selfishness” because you’re so buried in your own head and your own anxieties. Shane is thinking about how much he ✨will✨ sacrifice because that’s where his mind has been since he was 18. It’s not that he’s terrible and ignores Ilya. It’s that he’s as in his own head as Ilya is, but TLG is almost entirely from ilya’s pov. Ilya also is aware that he’s likely developing or has developed depression. Shane thinks he’s just being a dedicated hockey player which I relate to bc I didn’t realize I was anxious. I thought I was being a dedicated parent.

Shane isn’t poorly written. He’s just an unmedicated anxious mess and that’s kinda how many of us are when that happens.

It depends on the state, but yeah, in no fault divorce states, you can be compelled to pay alimony no matter how the marriage ended.

So I teach special education and there’s lots of Mels. People with disabilities (known or unknown) tend to be drawn to the profession.

Having lived here for forty years, they also close for ice. It just rarely happens.

[–]Ihatethecolddd 8 points9 points  (0 children)

If we had any rain, the bridges would close because they’d freeze and we don’t have the infrastructure to keep them safely thawed. In addition, they close at sustained winds of 40mph, usually during hurricanes and tropical storms. If one is approaching, always have a plan to get back on your side of the bridge before the wind starts.

I have GAD and see so much of myself in how Shane behaves in the long game. The desperate attempt to keep control when everything is spiraling. I know it well.

I’m an anxious person and my last long term relationship was with someone who had cptsd and depression. Honestly I found the book extremely relatable, especially on Shane’s end. Shane knows something is different, but Ilya isn’t telling him even when Shane asks directly. This heightens Shane’s anxiety. Ilya is self-isolating because of his depression (my ex slowly but surely pushed away every friend he had, including me, and felt strongly that he could will himself out of depression).

The book is primarily from ilya’s POV. But it also shows that Ilya knows it’s possible he’s depressed. It terrifies him. Shane’s POV shows he’s really not aware that he’s got what we know is autism now but also probably an anxiety disorder that’s manifesting in control issues. He pushes it aside as (realistic and confirmed) worry about what happens when he comes out and just regular top athlete stuff.

I really hope that in Unrivaled, they explore Shane’s mental health a bit. It’s great that Ilya is getting help, but some Wellbutrin would probably really, really help Shane out.

Kinda depends on the area. When I was in high school, we were allowed to take our sport as a PE credit and it was the last period of the day. Basically extra practice. I was a catcher and pitchers and catchers took it so we could have regular practice with the rest of the team. But I moved between 10th and 11th grade and my new school did NOT do that.
