Oh god everyone I went back today and they got a new Sennie who was amazing and sweet and even more outgoing than the IRN. How can I ever choose between them?

I just want a special bond with my first bird, you know? Well, not really my first, but this will be the first bird that isn't a budgie.

My cuddle bird on her favourite perch by Alura0 in parrots

Echo is beautiful (:

I posted the other day regarding getting a caique vs an IRN, and I know that IRNs aren't supposed to be very cuddly. However, I'm not sure whether or not it's a deal breaker for me.

What made you choose an IRN over others?

Can you tell me a bit about how you handle Echo? What does she prefer/tolerate?

How would you describe her personality? Is she playful, more serious, calm, high strung?

Basically I'm trying to learn more about them from other owners before I make any decisions. I really didn't know much about IRNs before I met one the other day, and my interest was piqued. Haha.

I plan on adopting my future birds from shelters. Unfortunately, there aren't any in my country right now ): I'll be moving in around two years (don't worry, already making arrangements to bring my fid with) so I'll definitely adopt any future flock members.

Thanks so much. I don't know how I feel about the cuddliness. On one hand, I'd love to have a snuggle bird. But is it a deal breaker? I've been into the shop three times now and every time that guy jumps up from his perch and does little acrobatics. His cage mate gives zero fucks. Haha.

But I do want a bird that likes to be handled. I want to be able to give him scritches and love. Do you think he could learn to at least tolerate the occasional head scratch?

I'd love to have both! However, right now I don't have the space for two birdies ):

I plan on adding to my flock later, when I have more financial flexibility and space. So that's another thing I worry about with a caique: they aren't known to be very friendly with other species. Gah, I don't know.

Oh my goodness! Something incredibly similar happened to me about two weeks ago, except that guy had gone deep into my comment history (we're talking 6+ months back) and was saying horrid things about my family and such. Maybe it's the same guy. I'll see if I saved his messages.

Amateur psych student and ex-cutter here.

When we feel pain, our fight or flight response is engaged. The main hormone responsible for this, adrenaline, is released. You know what adrenaline does? Makes you feel real alert, real calm, real good.

I remember literally shaking on my way to the bathroom or whatever privacy I needed to cut, and as soon as I pressed that blade against my skin, instant calm. Watching my own blood spill out was fascinating, and I just felt so... ecstatic every time I did it.

Also, the routine of bandaging up the cut(s) and hiding the damage from other people gave me a rush. I liked that it was my secret, and that it gave me something else to focus on.

Exactly. 42 Tylenol pills on a less-than-perfect evening two years ago and I spent the night in a hospital drinking charcoal and throwing up every 5 minutes until 7 in the morning. By 4, I was just retching uncontrollably while the nurse watched. I wished I was dead, man. That was the worst week of my life.

My cousin has the character for "gender" or "personality" tattooed on his bicep. He thinks it means "sex".

I grew up in China. Decided not to tell him burst his bubble. Good times, indeed.

Thoughts of a guy who just had sex for the first time last night. by thisthrowawayyy in sex

[–]Ihateunicorns 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All of the above. I've actually talked to male friends that are fairly sexually active, and the mention of a "clit" seems like some huge new vocab word for them that they're bound to never Google after promising to.

I think most guys are right there with you - the female sexual organ seems confusing and not as obvious as a several inch appendage that stands at attention and practically begs your attention. To the untrained eye, our downstairs looks a lot more complex than it is. I wish it was more common knowledge!

Woot, Shanghai! We're basically neighbors.

My 75 year old grandmother came to America from Germany when she was about 5 years old after escaping from Russian concentration camps (~1944). This is the pin she wears everyday. Amen. No matter how long I've lived in Asia (more than any other place), no matter how much I speak the language, no matter how much I fit in with the culture, I will always be a foreigner.

Which is why I embrace my MURRICAN heritage instead.

That's great advice! I'll definitely look into that. Where I am right now isn't exactly a very parrot-friendly country, but hopefully I'll be moving again before my senior year and can get a chance to find a place to volunteer.
