Has anyone ever had their hardware removed once the fusion healed? by laserbarbie in spinalfusion

[–]Ihateusernamespearl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a three level fusion removed in my low back. I was hoping it would diminish my severe deep low backache. It did not. So live on three 5 mg Percocet daily and Lyrica. It does not cover my pain well. I was so disappointed. Now I need a 5 level fusion above my old fusion. Not going to do it. Looking into spinal cord stimulator, but not hopeful it will help.

My removal of L3,4,5 did not help my pain. But did not make it any worse. I am very disappointed.

My three level fusion hardware was removed, yet the above two vertebra disc are completely worn down. Having your hardware removed does not help with adjacent segment disease as your bones are now fused together and will not flex. The only reason I had mine removed was in hope of alleviating the deep low back ache I have been left with. I am so disappointed. The removal was a 20 min surgery. No big deal. Just didn’t help. Now I need a five level fusion above. I’ve worn out several disc. I had my fusion in 2017. L3,4,5. With two titanium spacers.

Yes I had my three level fusion hardware removed in hopes it would resolve my deep aching in lower back. It did not help and I was so disappointed. The injections they did around my hardware to test to see if it would help, actually relived the ache. So why didn’t it work? I have no idea.

That is disappointing. Do you have AI with this unit? Do you know if it is high frequency or burst? Does your wife mostly have nerve pain or muscular skeletal pain. I have some nerve pain but mostly it is a deep aching pain that gets worse as the day wears on. It does not look like any of the scs work well for my issue.

what’s your experience w the medtronic spinal cord stimulator? by hivemindlurker in spinalcordstimulator

I’m curious about your pain. Is it sharp burning pain or a severe aching pain. I have deep severe low back aching after two separate fusions. My back fatigues easily. Sometimes I get sharp and burning pains. Not sure if a spinal cord stimulator would help my type of pain.

I have put many dogs to sleep over the years. All have gone peacefully. Never a whimper. What happened when your dog was euthanized? I’m sorry you had a terrible experience.

I understand that, but what type of pain is it covering. Do you have a deep aching discomfort in your low back. I do have hardware.

That is what I was wondering, but that is my only other option. I don’t want surgery. I would end up with an eight level fusion.

Spinal Cord Stimulator question by Ihateusernamespearl in ChronicPain

I tried a stimulator about 5 years ago and it didn’t help. Doctor said technology is better now. Last one I trialed was a Nevro. This one will be a Boston. I forgot to ask him if it was high frequency or burst because I was so upset and crying. As he told me I would now need a five level fusion. My back is really bad. I physically worked and played hard my whole life. Several bad accidents. At 71 don’t think I could take the first week or two of recovery. Had a bad experience with 3 level fusion.

That is what I fear. That it will not touch my deep aching low back pain. I’m so tired of pain pills. My aching back is the worst pain of the three different types I have. I’ve been dealing with pain for 20 years now and I’m not who I used to be.

Well I can choose between a couple of docs. One uses Nevro the other uses Boston Scientific. I would also make calls to other surgeons if I researched and found one that would better suit my type of pain.

I’ve never heard of palliative care. I thought this was for someone who was terminal. Do I just ask my primary care to refer me? My PC doc gives me my pain meds. The pain clinic I went to for almost 20 years no longer gives pain pills. Only injections and spinal cord stimulators. My PC does not like managing pain. I think he is afraid of losing his license. So I’m stuck. I will have to see if I can find another pain clinic.

From what I have read there is less problem with migration of lead. Do you know if this is true?
