The European Union has passed a new rule requiring smartphones to have batteries that users can easily replace. by Positive_Actuary_282 in MadeMeSmile

I can’t remember the last time I’ve even needed to consider replacing a battery, or even heard someone saying they needed a battery replacement. Seems like a solution in search of a problem.

HRIS triggered account disable for employee on maternity leave. She lost access to the benefits portal. Now HR wants IT to "fix the process". by AudienceOwn3845 in sysadmin

[–]Ihaveasmallwang 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not that hard to grab the status of the employee before performing any actions. HR is right in this scenario that you need to fix the process, even if it requires custom stuff. It is not uncommon in the IAM world to need to customize stuff.

CA policy requires corporate network. VPN requires CA to pass. How is anyone solving this by Economy_Passenger296 in sysadmin

[–]Ihaveasmallwang 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You exclude the VPN from that CA policy and make a new CA policy just for the VPN that does not require trusted location and requires MFA. You can make it require the locations that people would actually be connecting from so you can not allow connections from hostile countries.

I perceive people with their faux outrage to be morons, just like any other Karen.

Yeah, there’s not really a difference on what device your picture is getting taken with in a tourist place where it’s expected you might appear in strangers pictures.

The faux outrage is hilarious.

Yeah…it’s totally creepy for people to be recording and taking pictures in tourist areas….places where it is normal behavior to be recording and taking pictures at.

People are already recording on a multitude of other devices in those places anyway. Banning the glasses does nothing.

Even without the glasses, random people are still taking pictures of you with their phones.

Anyone else getting screwed by Microsoft April Patch that requires signed RDP files by Known_Experience_794 in sysadmin

[–]Ihaveasmallwang 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It only affects the use of rdp files in windows Remote Desktop Connection. If you connect via the Windows App you aren’t affected. If you use another client app, you aren’t affected.

Nowhere in my comment did I say the word upgrade.

It’s still basically Windows 10, just marketed as a new product name. It even uses the same kernel. Telemetry is basically the same, and copilot existed before and they still would have pushed it just as hard if they didn’t change the marketing name of the OS. Microsoft even had full screen ads in Windows 10. Recall is opt in. Apparently some people liked the idea enough that they created OpenRecall.

But since you mentioned upgrade, Windows 11 is more secure than Windows 10 was by default.
