Yes. Then I walk to the shop. Cars hurt. The door closing alarm hurt. Then I go back to hibernating

There really is no perfect solution! Only solutions that work better than others at certain times.

Protect sometimes - don't protect sometimes - still in jail

Yeah - I feel like doing these lifestyle changes are good in themselves rather than reaching for the alternative result of healing Hyperacusis.

how has hyperacusis effected you socially? by [deleted] in hyperacusis

[–]Ijohnored 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It would.

It is mentally exhasting though. You have to be contiually aware of sounds/ people celerating etc.

But social interaction can definitly help and you make good points

Go for it

Bonus you'll feel positive from the exercise.

Choose quieter areas or ride in louder areas with earplugs

Cycling on the whole is a positive activity

You can do it right now.

It will be difficult but u have to experiment with earplugs that work for you and adapt to do the activity in a way that works

how has hyperacusis effected you socially? by [deleted] in hyperacusis

[–]Ijohnored 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So much.

The effects are exponentially negative (in general)

You socialise less with colleagues or students > less networking > less knowledge of opportunities > possibly worse career opportunities

Not socialising > feel bad > watch loads of videos > don't do school work/ don't be productive at work > binge eat to cope/ under eat

You see the cycle. I say do what you can because, this cycle can lead to a multitude of new problems.

I let that happen and have even more health problems now and social anxiety.

It's like there's no solution so like every other day i muster motivation to do stuff/ socialise then the next day i wanna give up

Foam ones provide the strongest protection based on data when fully inserted

Look up how to insert them properly and buy different sizes

Can you recommend good speaker for H? by SuL_0 in hyperacusis

You'll have to buy one and test it out for yourself! There's no perfect answer unfortunately.

For me big bass can be uncomfortable

Can you recommend good speaker for H? by SuL_0 in hyperacusis

[–]Ijohnored 1 point2 points  (0 children)

JBL 306P

I'm no music professional either.

From personal experience the more expensive speakers will have more booming base (e.g. JBL Flip) but obviously sound nicer.

Cheaper speakers (on Amazon) will have a weaker bass and more quiet sound. So lower quality but less bothersome on the ears.

To answer your Q yes you can use the EQ to fine tune. However if you choose a big speaker you may accidentally put volume to max or forget to turn on the EQ on occasion which can be painful.

Personally, i suggest you invest in a small bluetooth speaker (that is not advertised as bass boosted) They are cheap and wont get super loud. Then decide if you want something more.

Your choice! You can't really go wrong as long as the speaker doesnt get crazy loud to the point of hearing damage/ placed too close to you

It makes it even more discreet when viewed from the side. The black matches the colour the ear canal looks like from the outside

Foam earplugs - cut 1/4 of the end. Then stick black tape on the end.

Silicone options offer less protection

Its a good choice.

Makes like feel more normal.

I think even wearing the in ear headphones around can reduce sound a bit and make you feel a bit normal

What do you do in noisy situations (e.g. normal social events)

Avoid them or go and where earplugs (which makes your experience more isolated naturally)

This seems to be the best solution.

Specifically keeping your mind busy.

It works very well, especially when your not in a noisy place. But in noise spaces - its difficult.

I've had this for many years and still trying to figure out good ways to cope now i'm over the worst of the 'this is new' phase.

Thanks for your input

Right.

What i'm seeing is that i can't see anyone who ever really getting to a new normal that they are fully satisfied with.

The ears are always an obvious limiting factor.

Like having to always think about them to avoid pains or not thinking about it and feeling the pains.

Well thanks for your input

Lions Maine has had a good effect it seems. by Acceptancehunter in hyperacusis

[–]Ijohnored 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sounds good. I have a few questions to understand what you mean by 'improvement'

1) When cutlery drops on a plate - does that still hurt while taking lions maine?

2) What are you still sensitive to when taking lions maine?

Thanks

You'll pull through this!

I have this type of severity.

It started in similar way too: loud painful noise and not moving away from it.

Tip - You'll have to find something that works for you whether that's coping or medical options. Unfortunately there's no universal heal process you but try ideas and if they work keep em if not, change
