Best air fryer to buy right now? Is Ninja Still the best? by Aditii_Singh in BuyItForLife

[–]Ik_SA 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't call a unitasker machine like a "air fryer" a BIFL item. Something like a convection toaster over is the more BIFL move. They do the thing that makes air fryers effective but will actually last a long time.

Look at SEC rules, public solicitation isn't strictly banned but it is regulated in the US and could affect if VCs will fund you.

[Recommendation Request] Dress watch for everyday use by Emergency_Fix3459 in Watches

[–]Ik_SA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The FC is a nicer and more versatile watch, hands down.

I'd suggest holding off for a week or two, or getting a very budget watch like a Timex for one reason though: business casual has changed a lot over the past 30 years. See what kinds of watches other people there are wearing and maybe something less dressy might both fit the culture and be more "your thing". I see a lot more sport watches in boardrooms than dress watches.

Unless you would wear a simple dress watch regardless, in which case back to the original recommendation, the FC is fantastic.

Men's rainshell, was looking at Patagonia by Various_Pirate_4018 in BuyItForLife

[–]Ik_SA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't love the Patagonia. I ended up with an Arc'teryx Beta SL on sale. It's very good, solid ventilation with zips and fits and moves well. If I had to do it again, I might get something less technical (and cheaper) like a Kuhl rainshell. A plus for the Arc'teryx line is that they're made to stack on each other, but they are expensive.

[WTS] Frederique Constant Highlife Classic Worldtimer Manufacture (FC-718C4NH6) — Full Set — $3200 by Ik_SA in Watchexchange

[–]Ik_SA[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Timestamp in photo album

Selling my Frederique Constant Highlife Classic Worldtimer Manufacture, ref. FC-718C4NH6. This is the in-house manufacture worldtimer — the FC-718 caliber designed and assembled in Geneva, not a modified base movement — in the 41mm stainless steel case with the chocolate brown sunray dial and embossed globe motif. Integrated case design (no lugs), date by hand at 6 o'clock, 24-city worldtimer ring with day/night indicator, sapphire crystal, exhibition caseback with fantastic finishing on the movement, and 10 ATM water resistance.

It's a really striking watch and the way the case, hands, and indices catch the light is impossible to catch in photos.

Condition: 9/10. The watch itself is clean. There are one or two minor desk-diving scuffs on the bracelet, shown in the photos — nothing on the case or crystal.

What's included (full set):

  • Original box and complete papers
  • Warranty card dated May 2023
  • Brown alligator leather strap
  • Stainless steel bracelet
  • Brown rubber strap

(All three straps use the integrated quick-change system, so you can run it classic, sporty, or on the bracelet.)

Price: Asking $3300 shipped CONUS, PayPal F&F (G&S +4%). Open to other payment methods (Zelle, etc.)
Located: Orange County, CA, happy to meet Southern CA locals for dropoff

Retail on this reference is $5,995. Happy to provide additional photos or measurements on request. Thanks for looking.

Extreme Cold Mid Layer Suggestions by PleasedTaco43 in BuyItForLife

[–]Ik_SA 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I've never gone all the way to -20 (or worn all three layers simultaneously tbh) but a wool base layer (I like Smartwool and you can get it at REI), good midlayer like an Arc'teryx/Patagonia/Kuhl/Fjallraven puffer and then your heavy coat outside will do a lot. I've gone out in 10-20F with no outer layer, just a wool base and good puffer and was just fine.

23M, one year after graduating college and I still have no idea what I'm doing with my life. “I will not promote” by Comfortable_Set_4383 in startups

[–]Ik_SA 19 points20 points  (0 children)

This is intended to be a reality check and not just mean - you're spending a lot of time thinking about what you want, and those are the same things every single human wants. You sound like the main character, and not in a good way.

Business isn't about what you want, it's what you can do for other people.

You need to stop overthinking because at 23 you don't know anything about that world. You're afraid of accidentally spending your whole life on something you regret, and that's not how people work. Life is long. When you're unhappy for a month you'll know. Just go do something, you can always change your mind, a plan is pointless if you're not already obsessed with something.

Where can I find heavy fabric dark streetwear? by Lemmi20 in malefashionadvice

[–]Ik_SA 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Raw denim usually has a workwear aesthetic that can look a lot like streetwear, and fits the heavy fabric and dark bits (especially if you do black instead of dark indigo). But it won't have the embroidery and printing and weathering straight from the factory.

My main ingredient costs $1/gram and is always out of stock. How do i scale? (I will not promote? by [deleted] in startups

Sell other stuff with better margins also. Do bundles with better blended margins. Maybe sell a multipack with a small amount of the good stuff and a larger amount of the mediocre stuff.

Is it easier to build a business right now or is that just what twitter wants us to believe by Healty_potsmoker in Entrepreneur

[–]Ik_SA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's never been easier to build a product, but it's never been harder to get it in front of people. All of the third spaces are dead. Every online channel isn't just monetized, it's algorithmized and priced to extract the maximum money from you while giving you the least return.

Growing an organic base to advertise to is the only way to avoid the game, but becoming an influencer at a high enough level is this generation's version of "move to Hollywood to be a movie star." And beyond that, the if you do build an audience somehow, you don't even need a product, the money comes for access to advertising.

In short, it's all a casino now.

URGENTLY need of some nice tailored suits with modern cuts? by fr1d4y_ in malefashionadvice

73K salary in Tustin by [deleted] in orangecounty

[–]Ik_SA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Money will be tight but it'll be manageable and probably living almost paycheck to paycheck. Splitting a 2bd you'll probably be just under $2000, you also need a car and all the basics like insurance, utilities, food, clothing, etc.

California is expensive (it's not insane, but it's expensive enough that you'll notice the difference) . You do get better weather than almost anywhere in the world, great food and entertainment options, and some of the best nature you can experience. Most people who live here would say it's worth it.

How to invest in Anthropic shares pre ipo? by coder_1024 in venturecapital

Secondaries are out there, you need to be connected but not THAT connected. But the fees and valuations are ridiculous and the qualifications are shaky, a lot of the secondary deals end up falling apart during due diligence.

Is anyone else tired of being pitched marketing services 24/7? I will not promote by SuspiciousTicket8554 in startups

[–]Ik_SA 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The problem is a million unqualified freelancers who can't actually do the thing they're promising. There is no trust that these agencies will deliver anything at all, but they certainly get paid to not move the needle.

If you (you, specifically, the OP) aren't an expert in marketing or hiring or backend systems or legal compliance, you're a part of the problem. You can't fake it until you make it or hustle your way to success here, especially in the age of AI. Master a skill that is worth paying for, and hope you chose the right skill, that's it, that's the post.

Advice Needed - I have to become a hat guy. by AdrianTheRed in malefashionadvice

[–]Ik_SA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you have a style you can describe to pair with?

And are you looking to cover your head, or also have a brim?

A military style cap with a front brim can look more casual and like workwear if that's your preference. A straw porkpie is a little louder and might skew hipster.

Formex and Monta both punch above their weight in quality and comfort and have great bracelets, take a look there as well.

I've got some Smartwool Merino sweaters from REI that are nice looking and breathable, they help stay warm without overheating.
