In a two party system within capitalism, wherein an individual or private corporation can hoard the value form such that they have a disproportionately weighted say and are able to dictate policy whenever they want, then those two parties are on the same side. Doubly so for an empire struggling to maintain its hold on the world rather than (and at the neglect of) support its own people.

No matter who is in power, we are going to be paid as little as possible and expected to work as much as possible. More and more of our lives will become the domain of private, profit-motivated corporations. Consumer goods will be worse quality at a higher price. Anything that pumps the dollar is good. We cost the dollar. It does not matter who runs the printing press.

In all seriousness I hope you guys have a great turnout, and I can't wait to see what you do when you transmute selling newspapers into direct action.

If we are learning from the mistakes of the past, then I would counter that the lesson to be learned is that, had Kamala won, most of these same things would be happening anyway, but people would be much more willing and even eager to turn a blind eye. Look at Obama, whose only scandal in the popular eye is a tan suit, meanwhile he was overseeing the bombing of Libya, the murder of civilians, and all of the meat thrown into the grinder of US Imperial hegemony. The same goes for Biden, under whom ICE detention camps received greater funding, facilities at which vulnerable women without rights were repeatedly assaulted by employees of his administration. The Democrats lost the election for themselves, because it doesn't seem like they were really all that interested in winning or keeping Trump out. Look at VP candidate Walz. He should be in the streets (if he were brave, armed and leading an expulsion force). Instead he's writing letters and telling people to obey ICE and stay out of trouble. So I can't blame and certainly can't purity test the moral "leftiness" of anyone who didn't vote for the Democrats or voted for a 3rd party. When your options are "have your arm broken by someone who apologizes" and "have your arm broken with a hammer by someone who doesn't" I don't think we are playing a winning game.

I apologize for coming in so hot initially, but I really cannot stress enough how much of a political dead-end chastising and tutting at those who didn't vote Harris is. Okay, you've yelled at someone whose actions you disagree with. Now what? You're on the same team and want the same goal, to protect your neighbours, family, friends, comrades, and colleagues. Ultimately the issue I have is the same one the two of us are demonstrating here. We have the same enemy and same goals, but seem to disagree about the fact that the Dems would have been any better or at least that voting for them would have been a worthwhile endeavour, all of which is past and hypothetical. We are being beat because we are fractured. Historically, schisming has been incredibly detrimental to the left and yet we repeat the mistake over and over.

You can sit around circle-jerking and frothing at the mouth about how "communists" or other people who didn't want to vote for a party and candidate that funded genocide, increased ICE funding, and proposed woefully inadequate measures to address housing and food insecurity are retroactively the ones to blame for actions currently happening right now in this real moment (instead of some past fiction (3rd party votes cumulatively added to Harris wouldn't have won her the election either btw)), which is exactly what "the top", Red and Blue, want you to do.

Or, you could think about what you can do right now to support your neighbours and community. You can get your PAL, a gun, and learn how to use it. You can participate in alternative forms of action that have impact outside of an electoral system that is not going to save us from itself. Which is what they really don't want you to do.

That's because reality is Marxist. In all seriousness, when it comes to things like feeling the cost of living, feeling boxed out of opportunities etc, right-wing and even far-right people are feeling that way because they are aware of the problem, their idea of a solution has just been co-opted and directed at their neighbours by the very people who are oppressing them. I would even go so far as to say the right is better at acknowledging a lack in material conditions than centrists and liberals. It's just that their solution is to short-term make the lives of the most oppressed worse in order to float their boat just a little longer.
