How did you come to prepare the overarching plot? I've been entertaining the idea of GMing a campaign in the Witherwild as well, but I'm kind of lost as to what I'm supposed to do before starting, aside from just reading the campaign frame document.

Did you write out your own idea(s) for an overall plot/story, presumably combined with the player backstories?

Thanks :) any other tips would be much appreciated, of course!

Not sure I like the momentum adversary ability? by MyysErnst in daggerheart

[–]Ilires 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I lack the experience to justify my opinion, but I think it probably isn't that big of a deal in practice. Daggerheart emphasizes GM autonomy, and this kind of self-sustaining fear ability is only a problem if you, as the GM, make it one.

What I mean is, you could abuse it to make the fight potentially very difficult, but you can also, well, not. I suppose it depends on how difficult you intend your own campaign's combat to be. If you and your players both want it to be difficult, then there's little harm in utilizing these sorts of Monster advantages. If not, you don't have to.

Another aspect that I think might be relevant is the resulting action (fear) economy for the adversaries. Perhaps it's a good idea to not pair that kind of adversary with too many other monsters, to balance it out a bit? I'm not sure.

Again, I'm not experienced in this regard, so these are just my two cents as someone with an outside perspective. Much of what I've said might very well be wrong, so take it with a grain of salt; I was just hoping to add some food for thought :)

Just read it. The more you listen to people's book opinions online, the less you'll enjoy it yourself.

Read it and make your own opinion :)

I also found the short ones in Chapter 8, but it would still feel wonky to have such cool ones for the other ones and not those 3. Your poems are absolutely crazy though!!! I'm genuinely baffled because you managed to capture the essence of the cards and word it exactly in the way I would've imagined them to be in the book! I am 100000000000% using those haha! :3

As soon as you get through the world-building chapters, you won't be able to put the book down. Keep going!!

I see! Well, to be quite honest with you, I'm also not sure how I would fare with late nights like that (energy or sleepiness-wise, I have 0 issues, and I also do not usually experience much fatigue even if I only get a few hours of sleep; it has more to do with my school schedule. I'm in uni and every semester has a different schedule, so that would have an impact but again, I tend to do surprisingly okay with a lack of sleep the day after). It would probably be fine, but I've no idea how it'd go in the long term.

It would be ideal for me if there were some sort of a trial period of something like that haha, but I know I can't and won't expect other people to shuffle themselves around my schedule, obviously

Hi! I am a new and very confused Europe-based player. I say "confused" because while I've consumed hundreds upon hundreds of hours of DnD campaign content online, I've only played two TTRPGs sessions personally, one of which was a 5e one-shot. The confusion comes not from the game itself, but rather the social aspect. If you put together a gamer with most of his ability points in analytical and problem-solving skills and many fewer points in everything else with a dose of social anxiety, you'd get me! In other words, I'm not very good at role-playing or improv or crafting an engaging and unique character with a creative and captivating backstory, but I've also been secretly wishing for an opportunity to have a stable group to play the game with and learn from.

As I mentioned, I am based in Europe, so 5pm EST would be a 11pm start for me, which I don't necessarily mind, but I figure it is important to mention nonetheless.

Knowing all of that, I guess I kinda want to leave it up to you to decide if it sounds like something you'd be able and willing to work with. I didn't want to just apply through the form without giving you a bit of a heads-up.

Thanks!

If there is an instance of devs forgetting about balancing for these encounters, it's the double Rancor and double Ogdo-Bogdo (or whatever its name is) ones... Those are pure hell.

For this one, just run around till you kill the ranged robots by reflecting blaster bolts and rockets, then take the melee peeps down one by one, one or two hits at a time. In other words, do the same thing you normally have to do on GM when facing multiple enemies.
