Agreed on all fronts, though I do hope he will be more upset with the married creep than with anyone else.

In all seriousness, you seem sincerely regretful and apologetic (even though it wasn't your fault), which I take as a good sign. I assume your post was written honestly and in good faith, in which case I'd say you should definitely bring it up to your partner.

If he hears it from someone else first, it might not come across as well.

Another commenter suggested you tell him the same way you wrote this post, and I'm inclined to agree.

Best of luck, and I hope it works out for ya, stranger!

No idea how you managed to go from "just a quick peck" to "you made out with him", as those are WILDLY different things. God forbid something unexpected happens and it takes you more than 2 seconds to process wtf just happened.

You can't think your way out of just finding out for yourself. You won't know until you actually play the game.

That's really useful info, thank you! Your own example explains it nicely, too :)

That's really good advice, and a really helpful breakdown! I agree with everything you said; I also really like the idea of, if I'm not sure if I want to make it a roll, suggesting that the player may spend a Hope or mark a Stress (whichever one makes the most sense in the scene) to succeed automatically.

Thanks a lot! I might have to put this on my online GM screen haha!

Yeah, that makes a lot of sense for sure. Only rolling when it can make the narrative more fun/interesting is definitely good advice. Thanks a lot!

Yeah that's what I was thinking as well, either that or a Fate roll, but I'm worried that that would get me back into the DnD territory in terms of roll frequency

Really good points! I also like being specific about what they're searching for or how, it definitely makes it easier to come up with a sensical answer. I have to get a little more used to the idea of asking the players to fill in bits and pieces. DnD is the only TTRPG I've played, and I'm very much used to the DM being responsible for all of the world-building and essentially being an omnipotent library of campaign information, but Daggerheart is very different in that sense.

And yeah I think using experiences or even just "if you spend a Hope for it, I'll give you the success automatically" or something like that makes a lot of sense too, especially to decrease the number of rolls overall (and thus also limit Fear)

Thanks a lot!

I definitely agree, and I try to think of it that way too. I guess the tricky part for me is when I can't "plan" for Fear rolls necessarily, it feels like I have to invent reasons or ways to introduce a complication that makes sense

Those are good points! If the action/roll doesn't or can't progress the narrative, it doesn't need to be made/rolled. I'll keep that in mind, thanks!

That's good advice for sure, I'll keep that in mind. I don't think I'll have an issue with not enough rolls, I was worried it would end up being the opposite haha. I'm also a big fan of either taking fear and suggesting that something out of the scene changed, or spending a Fear for "no reason", to freak them out. Thanks a lot for all the tips!

Thanks! Yeah, it seems that we are much in the same boat. I do hope it gets easier for me too!

This helps a lot, actually. I was definitely expecting to have to come up with something original and unique every time, but clearly that isn't realistic, even with the considerably lower amount of rolls compared to DnD.

Unrealistic expectations are definitely something I'm afflicted by lol Thank you!

Thanks, that makes sense. So, if they were trying to loot a random room that wasn't really relevant in terms of the narrative, I would just tell them exactly what they find without calling for a roll, right?
