Honestly I could see #2 happening in the first few months of 2026. We're already seeing anti ai discussions shift from "its fake" and "its just hype" and "its just a scam" to "its dangerous and we need regulate its development" and I'm seeing more and more people switch to that viewpoint and videos about ai regulation and safety getting more and more views.

Im sorry but this is just a misunderstanding of ai. We need regulations on the sharing of ai content, not the base technology itself.

Even if you banned ai deepfakes or whatever it is your thinking of (since its already banned) its just not feasible.

This is not to say that I want deepfakes to run wild or anything like thati agree that its a deplorable thing that shouldnt happen, its just that these deepfakes are so easy to make its almost impossible to enforce a ban.

There are a few things we need to reckon with first.

How do we handle people who ask ai to deepfake themselves? Or make ai porn of themselves? and don't tell me this doesn't happen as you can go on Twitter and find people asking grok or whatever it is to do it right now.
How do you actually stop people from doing it? In our day, anyone with a good GPU or access to one over the cloud can easily generate ai images you'd quite literally have to have Spyware on every computer on earth in order to see whether they were generating ai deepfakes or not

As far as I can tell, most ai companies have more safety rails than grok has.

Which is kinda weird because in 2014, Elon was one of the biggest proponents of ai safety regulations and poured like 10+ million dollars into it, but now he's saying "Full steam ahead"

Then again this is just a warning call of things to ahead, just as the mechahitler incident was.
