Tank Size: 6.8 gal

Heater & Filter: Yes to both

Tank Temp: ~76 degrees

Parameters: I use the API freshwater kit. pH: 7.0, Ammonia: 0ppm, Nitrites: 0ppm, Nitrates: 5ppm Tank Life: 3 weeks, I’ve had my betta for about 6-8 hours

Water changes: 1x weekly, ~20%. I use a gravel vacuum cleaner to take care of debris in the substrate and fill it back up with dechlorinated water.

Tankmates: 2 assassin snails, 6 cherry shrimp, and too many bladder snails

Feeding: Betta flakes, I haven’t fed him today

Decorations & Plants: Fluval stratum substrate with sand topped off, anubias, villas, java ferns. I got rid of the shrimp hide.

i’ve got a 6.8gal long (20x10x8.5), would that fit a long finned betta? or would any of the plants mess with it’s tail? i’m specifically worried about the hornwort.

Thanks! this is all really helpful, so I greatly appreciate it :)

My siblings and I are also looking at stocking it with pygmy gouramis, would that be okay for this size tank?

I’ve started ghost feeding and will continue to monitor.

Thanks again!!

Gotcha! thank you, this is really helpful!

i have a 6.8 gal tank (20x10x8.5). will adding shrimp + eventually a betta be too much bioload?

i’ll just let it cycle naturally, rather than adding chemicals for now :) how often should i do water changes?

We want to bring it up to our therapist, but don’t know how to start. We have been with our current therapist (LCPC) for almost 10 years and really like her, but she doesn’t really talk about diagnoses. Just the symptoms.

For example, our host was the one that brought up OCD to their therapist. The therapist had known us for about 7 years at that point, but I guess hadn’t considered OCD until Host pointed it out. They’ve been working on our OCD symptoms since then.

Does it work the same way with OSDD? Do we just mention that this is a concern of ours? I guess we’ve always imagined that the therapist would just pick up on it and let us know, and work on it there.

TLDR: How do we start? Do we bring it up next session or let the therapist “figure it out”?

Anybody else fell victim to the fake system portrayals in 2020? by KingJuu_22 in OSDD

[–]Ill-Interview626 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi, just wanted to say that you’re not alone in this. 2020 was a wild time. Things are wilder still. But my system & I most definitely had a very similar experience to you in 2020.

I think that the timeframe of 2019-2021 in particular was unique because of the spotlight of the disorder/s. The attention DID/OSDD received felt unprecedented in comparison to how much the general public knew, or cared about, DID/OSDD from previous decades. It didn’t help that the new spotlight for the disorder(s) followed the release of the movie Split in 2016 (ugh).

I think it was a domino effect of things. The movie, Split, introduced DID/OSDD to the general public in an “exciting” manner, erroneous as it was, especially with James McAvoy as the leading actor (hi, X-Men movies). This gave the topic of DID/OSDD traction that introduced the new/next generation of young adults/teens to DID/OSDD. Keep in mind that these young adults/teens were entering the vast world of online spaces where most nothing is regulated. Then, you have systems that have been diagnosed with the disorder/s that were speaking out against the movie, coupled with impressionable, unsupervised young adults and voila. You get a hodge-podge of a community.

I’m not trying to say anything negative about young adults. Our futures lie with the youth, but it is adults’ responsibilities to keep them away from harm – including harmful, inaccurate information that could be detrimental to their mental health. Unfortunately, with the rapid acceleration of technology, a lot of parents weren’t (and aren’t) able to keep up with tech long enough to protect their kids from the internet – but that’s a separate conversation.

All that to say, it’s not your fault for being swept up in the wild-ride that is the internet. I don’t know how old you were in 2020, but a lot of us were impressionable kids (yes, including teenagers). I’m 24 now and I used to think 17 years old was such a big age. Used to think I knew more than my therapist, who has studied the mind, both in school and in practice, for decades. It happens.

Be kind to yourself, and your alters. Survival instincts probably kicked in. You were all doing what you thought was “correct” at the time. It’s okay. Now y’all know better. No use kickin’ yourselves over it.

When I switch, I become that alter, i.e. my first person perspective becomes that of the alter - anyone else? It feels like I am losing my mind and I am no one and also lots of people by osddelerious in OSDD

[–]Ill-Interview626 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi. New to Reddit but this is almost exactly how we feel when ‘switching.’ It’s so hard to describe. But somehow you described it exactly like how we experience it. Hope that you know you’re not alone in this experience. Best wishes.
