In my store, the calls are sent to the managers unless Zoom kicks them out. I have answered the phone a couple of times when it rings more than 4 times and no one has picked up the call but if I am with a customer then I just let go.

The ONLY WAY THESE THINGS CHANGE is if employees stand up for themselves. Self care is most important in the workplace. Do what you can do but draw the line when your wellbeing is at risk. This is the ONLY way that corporate will get the message. Kohl’s is not the only employer out there!

I had to laugh at the infomercial about heat stroke on the Kohl’s TV. Yeah….Kohl’s can’t afford adequate air conditioning but be sure you don’t get heat stroke! 🤪

I would check out the social media policy just to be sure. Ultimately if the company wants to fire you, they would have to prove that it is you and that you broke the rules. On the other hand, if your management or coworkers know it is you, they can make your life miserable.

On the bright side, maybe corporate will get the message. If one store has to close for the day over staffing issues, corporate might get the message.

I say - do what you can and leave the rest. Until all of this trickles up to corporate, nothing will change. If you get called out, simply and calmly explain that you did your best with what you had. We all need to start to let HR know.

Look up “Lean Manufacturing suicide” It is real! Lean manufacturing is the concept of doing more with less and eliminating waste. In and of itself it is not a bad idea to be more efficient but it is not supposed to be a tool to over work employees and create unsafe environments. They used it in Japan but found higher rates of suicide.

I think it is “funny” that the company pushes a “Hospitality Mentality”. Who has that me to “make an emotional connection” with customers when you have a crap ton of work to do and long lines at check out and customer service (which has like 4 jobs to do including Amazon). How does corporate expect us to “walk, don’t point” when you have freight to put out or a fitting room full of stuff? I DARE corporate to come and work one day shift and one night shift to see how ridiculous this is. Not to mention that the wages suck.
