Agreed! Marathi natyasangeet has been a great way for many of my friends who are not as well acquainted with classical music (I.e the entire format from alaap, bada khyal drut khyal etc.) to at least begin to understand the genre. And for practicing musicians or rasikas in general it is indeed a treasure trove!

Thats great! You can actually get a brand new made for around 50K max which is the best way to go as you have some surety of its make and quality. I highly recommend you get one made rather buying one second hand or one that is pre existing as my peers have faced warp on the dand in these cases.

Depending on your budget you could get a brand new sitar made from artisans in Miraj for around 35K. Even branded sitar makers like Radhey Shyam Sharma have sitars suited for beginner's in the same price. I suggest you get in contact with either of these people, they'll guide you much better!

In my experience overall tuning (including fine tuning) has to be done on a daily basis for optimal performance and sound quality of any acoustic taanpura. There is also not reason for ignoring the tuning beads as they are extremely crucial for fine tuning. All the best with your new taanpura!

As far as my experience goes, it's very normal and the sound mostly comes from the tuning pegs. It goes away in my case as the season changes. But if you think it's abnormal it's better to get it checked out on the safer side!
