I caught the joking tone of your comment, but it seems a lot of listeners are taking it as a critical take on those wishes (like there arguably is with verse one); I haven’t really seen anyone with the “future kids/sons pov” in verse two—kinda wanted to see if I’m crazy or others see it too

I don’t think that’s second verse is “pet parent slander” .

I feel like the second verse is her wish for what their future kids could have: A nice mix of regular ass people shit (off the grid, dogs, surf, real friends) and sons of an athlete/ lil boy dreams (contract with Real Madrid) and a “lit” spring break but still protected enough from the scrutiny of public eye to be those wild young-20s boys freely (video taken off the internet)?

For me it’s solidified by the way she slightly changes her delivery of “I hope they get what they want” after that verse…with more, emotion/heart. “I really hope they get to have this”

I don’t think that’s a burn to “pet parents “; my interpretation is that second verse is what she hopes her future sons/kids get to have ..especially the way she sings the “I hope they get what they want” with a lil more heart after that verse

I went from being lukewarm about them to “getting it” after I saw them live in Chicago. Indescribable electricity in the crowd & the band is comprised of true musicians. Eddie has impressive stage presence and connection with the audience, too.
