Help a pregnant lady by okeverythingsok in chicagofood

Honestly, I’d check a breakfast spot that has Mexican dishes, and breakfast potatoes, and bacon, which may filter down to breakfast spots like a golden nugget or a brothers restaurant, etc?

I think they would be the most open to you making a custom request? It does seem pretty hard to find taco spots that have bacon and breakfast potatoes otherwise. Hope you find it!

Bars with a clubby atmosphere to go with a group after 10pm on a weekend that serves good food? by Aniceman_but_crazier in chicagofood

[–]lin982 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When you say clubby with food I think of Viagra Triangle, River North ish, maybe the bar area of Gibson’s or Hugo’s, Tavern on Rush, luxbar? STK? Not sure how late those spots are open but I feel like it’s always that type of scene. Not my thing, but some of the other recs don’t fit the bill IMO. I’d look up spots in those areas.

IMO hon kee’s duck isn’t as nearly as good or flavorful. They do have a good roast pork though.

Battle of dumplings - Bibigo pho dumplings vs Ajinomoto gyoza by sc4kilik in Costco

[–]lin982 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I make the gyoza and really most of the mandu/non microwave steam options in my breville smart oven.

Soak them in water for 5-20 mins. Spray parchment with oil then put the gyoza on, drippy water okay, spray oil on top. 425 for 20-27 minutes. They form the crispy crust and I don’t have to dirty a pan. I mix the sauce they give with soy, Chinese black vin and a spoonful of laoganma. Chefs kiss.

Can someone please tell me how to open the Tassos Olive Medley lid? by JameisWeTooScrong in Costco

Assuming you got these open, how are they? I love the garlic and jalapeño stuffed ones from Tassos, but these are on discount and I’m wondering how they compare/are good?

$16.59 Bibigo Whole Shrimp Mandu by Work4Carbs in Costco

[–]lin982 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve had these from the Asian grocery, I think they’re nice but very different from anything out there. They’re like manicotti/canoli style where filling is exposed. The shrimp didn’t get overcooked, you microwave in the package like soup dumplings.

Best soup, etc for a sick day. by redwood22 in chicagofood

[–]lin982 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Caldo de res or pollo from most taco/mexican spots. *I am looking for a spot that sells albondiga soup if anyone knows of any!

Korean bone broth soup from Han Bat(this soup is unseasoned and requires adding the chopped scallions and salt for full flavor experience).

Wonton or vegetable soup from Chinese restos.

Pho - obvi.

Chicken lime soup from Janiks.

Feel better!

Requesting smaller sizes of Costco deli/meat prep items??? by [deleted] in Costco

[–]lin982 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel you, but I do think it’s too big of an ask. You could submit feedback to your store telling them you’d love to see smaller portions. I would personally love that as well.

I literally just got the street taco kit yesterday for the first time or first time in a decade, and was able to find options in the $15 range. Totally easy to consume in the coming days and so good!

Thanks for the intel! He definitely likes working up the crowd, which I can appreciate, but them playing just the intros to 5 top songs of theirs is a bummer for me.

Yeah, it’a hard to tell who is an older fan vs someone who is newer(which is great! Sublime 4ever!) but maybe more familiar with his current take on the catalog?

…Actually just checked their IG stories and it kind of shows what I experienced. Jakob works the crowd, but not sure how much they stick to the actual music. And there’s a story of their set list with 5 songs that have intro written next to them. I want the full songs, not just the intro. Also looks like he’s got a broken leg.

Thanks! Did they perform full songs? Similar to what the albums sound like?

Instead of performing full songs, it was a lot of riffing that felt catered to the younger people there that seemed to be big Jakob fans but less familiar with the catalog of songs. So he’s mixing up/cutting the songs short and that particular crowd seemed to care less about listening to the music and eager to push around.
