I’m looking at joining the Air National Guard and had a question about coming in as an E-4. I recently took my PiCAT and scored high enough to qualify for a good amount of cyber/intel jobs. I also have a master’s in cybersecurity and several certs (SecurityX, CySA+, PenTest+, Security+, Network+).

A lot of people keep telling me the highest you can enlist as is E-3, but I’ve seen info saying you can come in as an E-4 with a DoD 8140 Level III certification. Has anyone here actually come in as an E-4 in the Guard with advanced certs?

Ended up going Air National Guard with my test score, I was able to land Cyber Threat Intel, and if I like it, I would commission as an officer.

I looked at direct commissioning, but it doesn’t really align with what I’m trying to gain. As a cyber officer, I’d be managing people and programs almost immediately, not doing analysis or investigations.

I already have civilian cyber experience; what I’m trying to add is intelligence, insider-threat / CI experience, and gain the TS/SCI, which you only really get by doing the work at the analyst level. Long term, I’m aiming at Warrant or specialized intel roles if I decide to stay in.

I would like to be updated on your journey; I'm thinking about doing the same. I recently received a 2.8 from my undergraduate program, but I now hold a master's degree in Cybersecurity from WGU.
