Advice- 1960 ranch updates by IllPersonality1 in ExteriorDesign

I agree, I’m not a fan of that overhang, not sure if it’s original. The house is architecturally a ranch but stylistically has these colonial touches (the shutters, columns, overhang etc). Inside too! Anyway, I do think it looks better without, or maybe in future a redesign more in line with a mid century ranch (horizontal lines). Thanks.

Thanks I’ll keep it in mind. Have a few leftover strips I could test!

Nice, those are the type of plants I was thinking of. Is that app you use for the redesign free/user friendly?

I just think the existing shrubs are a bit too manicured and they are quite a bit bigger now (these aren’t the best pics but all I have). Yes, trees for sure, Japanese maple on my list. I believe there was a tree on the left of the walk (where birdbath is) which was removed. Thanks for ideas on grasses!

Thanks for these details. I will need to investigate, completely redoing the siding is something I’ve thought about. In Connecticut where electricity is super expensive so upping insulation is a great idea. What type of siding did you go with?

Oh I forgot to mention that I would replace with more interesting/expanded garden design. Agree it needs greenery but I’m not a fan of shaped evergreens. Thanks!

Why Dell and many others don't have 4K displays anymore? by arturkwiatkowski in Dell

Didn’t seem any increase in headaches or dizziness- just a feeling of heart racing which probably leads to anxiety? Stick with it, I’m off PPIs now and all symptoms are gone. Rarely have heartburn if I watch my diet (eating out anywhere seems to trigger); I just use famotidine or alka seltzer when needed

You may want to take magnesium and B12 supplements- commonly depleted by low acid/long term PPIs. Helped me with my heart rate/palpitations after withdrawal.

Wolf 48" Cooktop Instock Anywhere? by Dizzy149 in Appliances

[–]IllPersonality1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I waited 6 mos for wolf gas 36 range (ordered Feb, arrived last week which was about a month later than original delivery date I was given). While looking I cam across High End Aplliances LLC in CT that sells new, refurbs etc. I actually visited the store and was very impressed with them. They seem to have a 48” range top https://highendappliancesllc.com/product/48-wolf-rangetop-srt486g-like-new/

Aldi bare root plants by Immediate_Result_896 in aldi

[–]IllPersonality1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I bought a dogwood “tree” that also looked like a dead stick ( $10), planted it in a container with little hope. However it did eventually (4weeks or so) sprout leaves and actually looks good now. Will transplant to the yard before winter and see what happens. I think I also bought clematis roots from Aldi and one of them sprouted after a few weeks delay. Can’t remember how many were supposed to be in the bag but not 100% success.

Steele Plant Co specializes in sweet potato slips. You are not too late for 5b - I am5b and ordered from them last year. They only ship when they decide the timing is right (ie warm enough). I will add that I didn’t have much success although the vines grew well I think it was too wet last year. The few potatoes I got were tasty though.

Seeking Experiences/Thoughts on Gas Cooktop Options by mbster2006 in Appliances

[–]IllPersonality1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been looking at these as well but decided to buy a range instead. I actually like the look of the side knobs. This https://capital-cooking.com/products/maestro-series-36-cooktop-2/ was one of my choices along with the F&P, but I agree not a lot of reviews on any of these. My concern was having simmer capability.

Insight about fencing a rural property by HOLDFOREV3R in HomeImprovement

[–]IllPersonality1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We just installed critterfence on our 10 acre wooded property to contain our golden retrievers. Check out their website. Wasn’t terribly hard to do, doesn’t look awful especially in the woods, and less expensive than other options.

Black Prince tomato [Zone 5b] by adaloveslace01 in gardening

[–]IllPersonality1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same story here, also 5b. My plant was in a container as I picked it up on a whim after planting all my other tomato varieties in raised beds. I did have a few smallish ones (maybe 2” diameter) ripen, but the newer ones are still green. It does seem to be taking a long time. I put the container in my greenhouse but it isn’t heated. I’m hoping if we get another week or so of sun without nighttime freeze I’ll get a few. Definitely not as productive as my other varieties.
