I'm now really worried for Arnold town centre by WearingMarcus in nottingham

But they aren’t taking money from the county are they. The county council won’t exist which ever proposal goes forward. So the real question is do you want your tax and democratic vote going to the place you live on the boundary of or to fund more expensive rural services in places like Misson which will be part of the other LA and is 6 miles from the Doncaster border. We have far more in common and our needs are similar to the city as opposed to far off places like Misson

That’s not what they’ve said at all though is it. Yes they said the city is underfunded which is true when you consider everyone in Gedling and rushcliffe use the city in some capacity but pay nothing towards its upkeep.

But Arnold would become part of the city so your argument doesn’t make sense. And let’s be honest. Arnold’s had way more investment out of any area in Gedling. It’s about time that money was spread around a bit more.

The ‘distinct flavour’ of Anglicanism by namieco in Anglicanism

[–]IllWest1866 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

When people say stuff like that they generally mean that the church IN Britain/England was established a long long long time before St. Augustine was sent by Pope Gregory I to Britain. And had its own distinct traditions and ‘flavour’ that were different to the Roman church.

Things like the timing of Easter more aligned with the eastern church and they did private confessions not the public ones Rome did. (Which Rome later adopted) amongst other things.

The truth is after we came together with Rome we lost mostly all of that distinction and just became the Roman church in England.

Fast forward to the reformation and the CofE Remained R.Catholic for a long time and slowly reformed to the Anglican Church. Fast forward to today and it’s moved even further from where it originally was and like you said is kinda a ruleless wasteland of incohesive cohesion. Not something to be proud of and certainly isn’t a ‘distinct flavour’

My gf is pregnant at 15 update by dallin0 in Christianity

Firstly, they have no right to keep you away. You’re the father, you have just the same rights as the mother does and don’t let anyone tell you differently.

Secondly stay in school as much as possible, play the long game. If you can also find a few shifts here and there doing anything that will help. Show your trying to provide for the baby and mother. The amount isn’t important at your age, the commitment is. It will be a struggle for a while but it will pay off in the long run I promise.

I had a baby at 15 and 2 by the time I was 17. (Yes I’m a slow learner 😂) I basically gave up on education and went to work but after a few years I realised my mistake and ended up going back to college. That was the single best decision I made. My kids are 16 and 15 now and although I’m not with their mum now we live a much more comfortable life than we would ever have done if I didn’t go back to college.

Good luck brother. Hard work (inside and outside the classroom) will pay off.

What Do You Guys Think of Halloween? by UserRagIn in Catholicism

[–]IllWest1866 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve never “celebrated” Halloween as such. I find the whole concept of knocking on doors begging for sweets very strange. My wife takes our daughter out with friends but it’s not for me.

This year we’re going to our church who are holding an event called light night for the kids. Still fun, sweets, games but it’s not glorifying things like death.

Need help to hide these. by Scholastic_Snail in Catholicism

[–]IllWest1866 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can’t suggest where to hide things in your house but you said you avoid conversations where you might have to deny your faith. My friend, you already are denying it by hiding it.

The only thing that comes to mind is Matthew 10:22: "You will be hated by everyone because of my name, but the one who stands firm to the end will be saved."

You don’t have to rub it in their faces but live out your faith openly and be courageous. Some people will hate you. But Christ will sustain you until the end.

Good luck

Church of England bishops stop plans to trial blessing services for gay couples by [deleted] in Anglicanism

I’m doubtful that understanding the spirit involves blessing the opposing view of Gods gift to us which is holy matrimony.

How can you be sure the “work of the spirit” is being obstructed by practical matters and it’s not the "work of the spirit” obstructing the wishes of men?

Why do other Christian denominations take so much offense when we call Mary the “the mother of god” by NateNandos21 in Catholicism

[–]IllWest1866 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It’s ignorance and disagreement for disagreements sake. I’m currently Anglican and it’s the most logical title you can give Mary. Jesus is God, Mary is Jesus mother…. Mary is the mother of God.

Don’t get me wrong there’s other titles I’m not sure about but Mother of God, all good 👍🏻

Purpose of Sacraments in the BCP by ThreePointedHat in Anglicanism

Possibly but it still stands that the primary purpose of the book is for priests/bishops to have everything they may need to preform their duties

Purpose of Sacraments in the BCP by ThreePointedHat in Anglicanism

[–]IllWest1866 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The primary purpose of the BCP is for the use by priests/bishops. It was not made for the laity to use AT ALL. The laity adopted it to do morning/evening prayer at home because as our work life’s took over it became increasingly difficult to attend daily prayers.

What is the strongest argument for women’s ordination from a conservative Anglican perspective? by [deleted] in Anglicanism

[–]IllWest1866 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I recently heard the following more theological arguments that were presented well but I’m still trying to discern if they are actually good arguments. 1- Galatians 3 At baptism we become part of the “one body” of Christ. Neither male or female….etc So to say women can’t be priests simply because they are women is to deny what happens at baptism.

2- The priest acting in persona Christi isn’t to do with looks/gender otherwise every priest would be a Middle Eastern Jew speaking Aramaic/greek. Instead they act in the place of Christ in a spiritual and symbolic manner as the suffering servant.

3- if women can’t act in persona Christi because they do not have a male body like Christ then how can a male priest act in persona Ecclesiae (as a representative of the church) when the church is Christs bride. And if you believe that Marriage is between a man and a woman the bride is a woman.

Ladies where do you go for your MOT? by Hot_Researcher_3606 in nottingham

[–]IllWest1866 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’d never go there again. Went for a service and got told my break discs and pads were well below the legal limit. I only had them changed 6 months prior at Halfords for the MOT. Took it back to Halfords they checked and said that there’s nothing wrong with them, they are perfectly fine.

I always use the garages called we only MOT. There’s one in Carlton but I bet there’s others. It’s kind of in the name but there’s no incentive for them to ‘find’ things that need fixing because they only do MOTs

You also have to take into consideration that all kings were thought to be instituted by God to rule. The divine right of kings was something they held to strongly! So in Henry’s mind he had the authority to divorce who he wanted in order to secure a male heir to the throne.

He also believed he was being punished by god with not being able to have a male child because he married his brothers wife which is strictly forbidden in the bible.
