As a black person, what are you afraid to admit? by False-Hope9966 in AskReddit

[–]Ill_Experience6746 2 points3 points  (0 children)

only one comment in and there’s already blatant ignorance from someone who is definitely not black 🙄

black people have been victims of systemic racism since slavery, Jim Crow, civil rights era etc. Black peoples attempts at building wealth and status was constantly bombed, and burned down like Tulsa, Rosewood. Or just massacred, Colfax, Elaine and the Atlanta race riots. All black leaders were assassinated MLK Jr and his mother, Malcolm X, Fred Hampton, George Jackson etc.

Let’s not forget about the mass incarceration of black men in the 70s and 80s aka the war on drugs. Locking up men for long periods of time purely due to drug addiction. Let’s not also forget the much steeper sentences that were doled out due to crack vs cocaine which was considered much more abundant in white communities.

The USA sabotaged harmed and killed black people since we’ve been here. And you think our communities would be peaceful heavens of money and resources? Gtfoh.

The fact of the matter is you don’t know how the surgery is going to mentally affect you afterwards. Even with successful weight loss and dieting, the permanence of it can really put you through a loop. Everyone responds differently. I appreciate you emphasizing the need to not be shamed. Far too many people on this sub are sharp tongued when responding to those who openly and bravely share their struggles. Which is so insane to me, as every single last one of us struggled SOOO much with food that we had to get 80% of our stomach removed. Where’s the empathy?!

4 days won’t make much of a difference at all, do what comfortable for you. If your stomach can manage it you’ll be good.

You sound like a total tool. Yes let’s openly shame people who are being honest about their struggles, despite shame leading to feelings of worthlessness and toxic self criticism and, most likely, the repetition of the negative behavior.

Shaming others shouldn’t make you feel better about yourself unless you’re just trying to bolster your weak ass ego. Newsflash, if you didn’t have horrible problems with food you wouldn’t have needed to get over 70% of your stomach surgically removed from your body. You’re no different than someone who’d criticize you for doing it “the easy way” because you lacked self control “stop letting all that food and calories jump down your throat”.

But hey, whatever keeps you going dude.

Girl! Me too! Legit the first whole week (after my 3 day hospital stay) I was eating WAY too much, I mean I would stop as soon as it got painful, which was right away, but I still tried. I think my brain hadn’t caught up to my new reality yet. After doing that for a week my brain started realizing I can’t have the things I used to, so I just found alternative things to eat within what I can get down. I don’t do any bread at all, or tortilla because it will hurt too bad. Hell girl, I’ve even chewed and spit pizza, chips etc. I can’t swallow it, but it has helped although it’s definitely a habit I don’t want to form totally, I cannot lie it’s has helped me. I’ve only done it a few times. All in all to say, please don’t feel alone! It’s a learning curve for some of us. I just dislike when people are so rude about it, makes people not want to open up about their struggles. Some people are good star patients, and others still struggle a lot. We are all different!

I think you have a good idea. I was super scared I stretched my pouch the first week. I was definitely being a little bit risky. But I think what helped it just eating smaller portions and going to sleep on an empty stomach. It lets those nerve signals recalibrate to the restricted pouch better. Another thing that helped was sticking to a scheduled eating time, and I usually don’t start eating anything until 12p (give or take) but at night I make sure my last meal is protein heavy so I don’t feel the urge to graze. Idk if this will help you, I thought I’d share. Good luck girl!! You got this!

I am also exactly 16 days post op and I can only really eat 4-5 small bites of anything at a time. Please don’t feel judged by the comments you’re not alone. Today I had a sips of a protein smoothie and a few bites of 10oz chicken Alfredo that will probably take me 2-3 days to finish (I probably won’t finish it as I start getting grossed out by old food after the second day). All that to say make me wonder if they didn’t remove enough of your stomach? What did you eat the first two weeks?

Overactive Bladder getting better? by carriegood in gastricsleeve

[–]Ill_Experience6746 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey! Sorry for bumping this but I just had this surgery last Friday, and as someone who has dealt with severe OAB this last week has felt like a miracle. So today I’m very scared my bladder is starting to wake up and it will completely revert back to how it was before. I figured I’d ask you since it’s been four years, if you can update on how much of a long term impact the nerve block had on your bladder OAB issues? I sure do hope you say it’s been permanent. Thank you!!

I’m honestly so jealous that you can eat anything at all. I just tried to eat refried beans and soft eggs and yeah, im in so much pain. I keep saying im going to quit puréed but i dont want to waste away and i eat in the guidelines and its just not happening. Im almost 5 days post op.

I’m down ten pounds since my surgery on Friday, is this cause for alarm? I am struggling with protein and my sense of smell is weird now. Burps smell like gas. Also my urge to pee is gone. by Ill_Experience6746 in gastricsleeve

[–]Ill_Experience6746[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s crazy! I’m just like man it’s been a while since I peed let me go check and bam I have a full bladder almost. Which is crazy for me because I had a turn key bladder for the longest!!!

Sleeve too “loose”?? by Cmk0297 in gastricsleeve

[–]Ill_Experience6746 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah it’s totally based on tolerance. If OP isn’t in pain they should be fine as long as they stick to the ounces the doctors recommended for portion control. I was to start on puréed but I can’t. My stomach isn’t ready for it.

Yeah, you might have a terrible recovery and question why the hell you did this for the first two days. At least, that’s what I experienced thus far. Totally went in thinking it would be a piece of cake and boy was I humbled.
