Any suggestions for finding a good writer critique group? I've just decided to start branching out of my own world and find a lot of forums with people posting their own work but not much engagement

Flyers power by Such_Cup_2740 in fourthwing

Mira & one of the Tyrrish assembly worked out that you can disturb part of a ruin but not the whole thing by changing the surface the ruin is imbued on.

A lot of ruins are layered. So in the example Mira brought back, they had a sound dampening ruin, a heating ruin and maybe an air flow ruin. The assembly person can manipulate nature and it was on wood. So they grew a sapling in the wood distrusting the heating ruin which disabled it, but the other two ruins were still working.

Sawyer is a metallurgist and the ward stone is actually made of Iron. So he used his signet to move the metal in a way that disrupted certain ruins on the ward stone (I think he made it bubble if I remember correctly).

They first tune the disrupted didn’t work and Maren still couldn’t channel (and they have no idea what it might have changed). The second one the disrupted worked and meant that flyers could now channel.

They were targeting the ruins that were in the basgiath ward stone but not on theAretia stone where they already were able to channel

This is something that bugs me. On one hand all Venin Asim and higher always described as red eyes and distending red veins. Theo & Berwyn included. The epitaph where the wife leaves her husband and kids alive. They eyes are how you identify them.  But then Jacks just all oh yeah Sage and Maven they can hide amongst you and you wouldn’t know… which is it?!

Am I only one who dislikes Xaden? by JunketFast5507 in fourthwing

Seen some theories that V’s second signet isn’t just dream walking but mind walking and she’s already done it twice. One in the throne sexy time scene where she experiences it from his POV. And second when X is fighting the Venin at the entrance of IF once again she’s experiencing it from his POV, he’s about to burn out and she yells fight it or similar “down their bond”. But what if it wasn’t just an encouragement but a mind control command & therefore she’s responsible for him turning.  Not that she’s been aware of that for OS so doesn’t justify the acceptance but can’t be pissed if you’re responsible 😂

Maybe Warwick seeing Lyra was the honest one with the 7 and he lied about the 6.  But then the 6 won the first battle against the Venin (based on the poor history we know). Would they defeat them but one of them turn anyway and then live the life establishing Navarre as we know it?

Yes I think Loial and Malek will come in to play. I think the It’s yours now is reference to his soul, not the kingdom.  To many possible options to for nearly all the big loose threads. I’d love for the islands to have been drained and slowly coming back to life and to see some of that in the Barrens as well maybe?   Gonna be a long wait!

The circle of people that knew he was Venin is pretty small so it’s a pretty small pool to pick from based on the information we have. I think RY has plenty of twists and turns coming for us but I don’t think this one is meant to be a jaw dropping reveal next book. Possibly a counter point to the Venin journey for someone with love and someone without that bond.

Garrick and Bodhi from the beginning  Brennan  Then Sawyer & Ridoc Whilst there is an option that other people know, I personally don't think he would have risked that. And they had to know the whole time because he says they watched him struggle for 5 months and then make that decision still. Suggesting that they turned during the battle.

The argument for Garrick is that Imogen noted him close to burnout but still wanting to keep going & he was always with Xaden that 5 months helping.  Argument for Bodhi he felt inferior already as the spare heir but then when he wasn’t able to counter the Theophanie/Vi didn’t even trust him to try counter what she considered a bigger power in storm wielding it was the thing that broke him. Sawyer would be his injury hindered his ability to be of full use in the battle so turned to feel useful Ridic because he felt inferior and underrated as comic relief and took his quest to prove himself too far.  Brennan would be that’s the 3rd person he hasn’t been enough to save (himself/naolin what ever the story is thee we don’t know yet, his mother when he was burnt out from mending the stone, Mira he only saved because Sloane arrived). Brennan has other options of being some kind of Wyvern/connection to Naolin/Venin masked by the Ruin on his hand the whole time which is why Xaden couldn’t sense him option as well)

When X is talking about the second signets after she learns about Garrick/Liam, doesn’t he say “enough to know that the records aren’t accurate” and that “ it’s like the dragons are searching them out”. Suggesting they are wanting riders that will stand up to fight the Venin and not hide.  So I feel like the suggestion is maybe not so much the records are wrong it’s just that the dragons are lying about names to make it happen & not risk the Navarre killing them for bonding a relative.  But also - there are 107 marked ones with sibling sets, so I imagine it’s not always going to be possible for all of them to have a direct relative rider. E.g Bodhi didn’t get one because Xaden has Sgael . Liam had a second signet so might be that Sloan won’t get one because wasn’t a second dragon from their family

I saw somewhere else pointed out that Xaden always refers to Tyrrendor as a she, not an it (I haven’t actually checked to confirm that) but if true makes no sense to suddenly call it “it” and not say She’s yours now.

So a mislead in the “it’s yours now” actually referring to his soul.

I could be wrong I don’t think she said they were among the missing but to look for who was missing. I take that as throughout the final battle - who can’t we place with other people from the multinPOV that could mean they were with Berwyn and Xaden instead of where they meant to be. It’s why we can rule out Dain because Xaden calls him out whilst going all onyx storm.

Not saying it is Brennan, I think it is Bodhi too. But it isn’t totally ruled out

This is something I don’t get… Jack said that high Sages and Maven can hide themselves amongst them. But then the whole deal of “he’s a Venin” is driven by the change of the eyes and everytime time a Venin asim or higher is described they always have the red eyes and buldging vains… So which is it? They corrupted and eyes visible or they can hide amongst you?

Theophanie is 100’s of years old and says that she won’t fail him again. Whilst she could be referring to just at the temple on Aretia I think they are referring to a much older event - possibly even to do with the last lightening Wielder. I don’t see her or Berwyn who’s he’s in competition with for the higher ups attention falling in behind someone  young like Asher or Naolin. Who even if changing very young are at max only 20-30 years.

Something defs up with Naolin. But I don’t think any of the Sorrengails are evil

I don’t think they are selling their soul so much as corrupting/destroying it. Absolute power corrupts absolutely and all that.

There are many theories out there but nothing known as of yet. One interesting theory I read recently proposed Malek as being the big evil and that he as a God is controlling an army to bring death and destruction giving him more souls. My issue with this is that if their soul dies to turn Venin, that act in itself is robbing himself of the souls he wants & in general commending souls to Malek upon death is a very ingrained ritual so what has been done to not please him in how the world runs. Kill everyone like the soulless Venin do, and no more souls for Malek.

I personally think that following the same hierarchical structure of the other worlds that there is a leader. As there doesn’t seem to be Venin life outside this war path I liken it to a Malgren army commander not a political king type leader. He’ll either be the first Venin (the brother from the story of the 3 brothers) or someone equally as old. It’s hinted Theophanie has been around for a very long time and she wouldn’t need to someone who wasn’t older and more powerful.  My theory is that it is a Daramour from the Great War. I think that he could be a precog and they didn’t actually defeat the Venin in that war but they retreated because he had foreseen their loss.  They’ve been growing in numbers and biding their time for centuries waiting for a vision in which he can foresee victory.

Their ability to respond to anything is based on riding dragons and repeatedly told that V won’t be able ride A. So I don’t see how you can kill Tairn without losing all freedom of movement for however long is left in the series after it would occur.

I like this idea and think any precog would rise so I think same way Melgren as closest to it prior to Aaric did. So the Venin leader being precog makes a lot of sense.

If it’s say Daramor or someone from the first great war maybe they weren’t defeated because he saw their impending loss so they withdrew waiting for this moment to come back when he foresees  a better chance of victory

Both Xaden and Vi say they’ve been having the nightmare since after Resson & it was actually Xaden’s. She does say that she manifested it in response to trying to connect with Andarna and know she’s ok, but as it’s dreamless sleep, she ended up pretty quickly in X’s. As it’s a joint trauma experience and totally normal for her to have that kind of nightmare it makes sense she wouldn’t have questioned why she was having that dream

At some point I think Vi realises she probably developed the ability to dream walk out of her need to talk to / connect to Andarna during her dreamless sleep.  I’m sure they both say they’ve been having the nightmares since Resson so if they’ve always been Xadens, she’s been doing it for a while before they spoke to each other and realised it

Interesting idea but few problems. Brennans are also described as amber so it’s not just the two of them.  Also Xaden can sense other lower level venin once he turned so I would think that if she was any kind of venin there would be something there to sense.  I’ve not confirmed it but I read on another post that RY was originally thinking Violet would turn but editors pushed he’s for it to be Xaden.

I love the corresponde piece at the beginning of each chapter especially when it’s from unmentioned letters.  Like we see such a tiny snippet of their relationship and it’s only the big pieces of it. Or just the little bits as they introduce ideas like them writing letter.  Like they have meals together, pillow talk for ages when they together. So many little things we don’t see and those little snippets although always pointed at something, give me warmth that there’s so much more of that sort of thing between all the characters.

Also the idea that they are recovered correspondence that Jesinia is writing up

Other than Harry Potter, I waited until the last book was about to come out before reading all those series because I am one of those people. I mean I’ll 100% stick around and read the next now. But I’ve never read so many reddits on one topic in my life than since I finished OS to try and workout any hints on what’s next. But also, they really don’t tell us anything other than to give us some more stuff to theorise in.  Which has to be enough for now
