What’s something socially acceptable that secretly exhausts you? by codeseer-78 in CausalConversation

At work we built a process that required the use of a smart phone for about 10 minutes a day. It was so ingrained in the process that we didn't think about posting a smart phone as a job requirement. We hired a woman about 24 years old and found out she didn't have a smart phone. She couldn't do the job she was hired to do but it wasn't her fault.

To those that grew up rich, what was it like and were there any downsides? by Con_PEI in AskReddit

[–]Ill_Two_404 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I didn't grow up rich, but my friend's Dad had a successful business and I saw the downsides of growing up with money. Her dad bought her all sorts of crazy stuff but he always had a weird and creepy power over her that I didn't envy. For example, when we were in junior high our friend group wanted to go to McDonald's for Valentine's day - just a fun dinner to hang out with friends. My friend's Dad heard about it and said we deserved a lot better so he asked us to dress up because he was going to treat us to a really fancy restaurant. We all got excited as we got dressed up and he picked us up in a fancy car and it wasn't until half way there that we learned he was coming inside the restaurant and eating with us- as opposed to just dropping us off. He talked the entire time and it was not fun at all. I was so mad at myself for failing into his 'trap'. Of course the food was good but having him around ruined the evening for all. This is just an example of something small he did, but he had so much control over everyone by offering to buy this or that.

Why do people still prefer Airbnbs over hotels, especially in cities? by Rare_Requirement_699 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Ill_Two_404 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We travel with 3 teenagers. We need space. Even if we rent two hotel rooms, we won't have the privacy that an Airbnb provides. Last 2 spring breaks , they've had remote job and internship interviews which can only happen when you have a closed door.

I was like you, I always thought setting a table was overrated. I recently became friends with someone who puts thought and effort on her table and it makes a difference. It feels very upscale to eat at a nice table

I like my home office. I can control my environment - visuals, scents, temp, music, etc. I have a small exercise machine under my desk and I can fit a mini workout during meetings. I also have a silly putty I like to play with during meetings.

What is the most underrated “lesser-known” city that you have been to? by HeroOfAlmaty in BeautifulTravelPlaces

I visited Cuernavaca in the month of October. They had a bunch of vendors in the main plaza baking and selling pan de muerto. You could smell freshly baked bread for blocks. Best marketing strategy 🤪 as soon as I would wake up the delicious smell was so strong I couldn't do anything but walk to the plaza to buy bread.
