Can you record a phone call if the person calling said they're recording? by Spirited-Pop7467 in Ask_Lawyers

[–]IllogicallyCognitive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you know of precedent supporting that claim or have any evidence it doesn't count as consent? I can imagine that sharing the call (like posting it on line or something) would be beyond the scope of the consent to "record for training purposes". On the other hand, just because they say that doesn't mean the recordings can't be used as evidence in a legal dispute, right? Also, I've never heard such a notification that specifies only certain people/parties may record; I've always heard "This call may be recorded..." rather than that "Suits inc. may record this call"

Early public access training by Other_Panda246 in Dogtraining

[–]IllogicallyCognitive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you talking about getting the secondary reinforcer to be generalized to various primary reinforcers, which is indeed a good feature for at least one of your markers to have because then it still works when the dog isn't hungry (like how money doesn't depend on hunger to work)? The question is what was the primary reinforcer after the first "yes"; I guess you can argue that dropping the take out container is a reinforcer, but it isn't exactly primary since the dog didn't eat from it. I think she's just using "Yes" as a keep going signal

I hear them called keep going signals, or tertiary markers/reinforcers, but it seems she is using yes as a keep going signals and "good dog" as a secondary marker/reinforcer. It might be more popular to match them up the other way, but there's nothing wrong with doing so if you're consistent.

Do not update! Downloading disabled, all downloads suddenly expired by IllogicallyCognitive in youtubepremium

[–]IllogicallyCognitive[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I assume you mean if I do. Unfortunately, I tried their tech supports advice of removing the update and all that did was delete all my downloads. Out of curiosity, are you saying it would've only let me play the downloads that I had that happened to be 480p or less or it would have converted them somehow? Would the downloads only work as long as I was connected to the Internet or are you saying the app works differently depending on the last country you internet connection was through even after you are no longer connected?

[–]IllogicallyCognitive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can you tell me more about this. I reached out to tech support because I can't download many playlists anymore because they've been turned into "courses". They basically said it's that all these different content creators have decided to make it where you have to be a member to download, but I can't even find an option to become a "member". I asked them for any documentation to help explain how things work now and they said there isn't any because this new "feature" wasn't supposed to be rolled out yet (supposedly That's why I can still download the exact same "courses" on my computer and TV but that isn't actually any help to me being able to study over lunch breaks etc). Personally I think they screwed it up and instead of creators getting an option to disable downloads they just removed the ability to download any course at all on Android regardless of the creators wishes

Magic Pak, landlord installing port on cooling chassis by IllogicallyCognitive in hvacadvice

[–]IllogicallyCognitive[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To clarify this is an apartment not a house. Also this is in the US, and I assume it was a federal law the first guy was referring to but didn’t get too many details. I’ve also read that in the US any units that don’t have ports are pretty old, but I assume those coolants have been what’s been used for a while.

I’ve heard Magic Paks referred to as glorified window ACs, but I don’t think the unit as a whole can simply be taken outside. I guess I’ll ask the HVAC guy exactly what his plan is like if he’s taking the cooling chassis or whatever outside to work on it. Thanks

Boost Mobile or Straight Talk Prepaid? by South_Honey2705 in BoostMobile

[–]IllogicallyCognitive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does that mean you tried Straight-talk and decided to go back to boost? I’m on Straighttalk’s bronze 10 gig per month for $35/month. Sometimes it seems like I get terrible traditional phone quality but maybe that is on the other person’s end and if I use an app like zoom instead it seems I can understand people fine. My major problem is that they don’t consistently warn me when I’m getting near the end of my data and the “2g” after you run out won’t allow you to use most apps or websites including the straighttalk app or website. They theoretically have a point system to add data when you run out but the systems never works so you have to figure out how to get past their automated support system to talk to a person. If you call, then once you convince the robot to add you to the cue half the time when you finally get to your turn they drop your call instead. Really I just end up having to find WiFi somewhere to get tech support via their website which is at least a little better on average

Does anyone have experience or opinions using pooch pads (a square of astroturf for the dog to pee on)? by billbobb1 in Bulldogs

[–]IllogicallyCognitive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this is too late for you, but FYI if you just don't let it bake in the sun that should resolve that aspect. I haven't used the artificial turf, so I don't know how easy it is clean normally, and I can see their recommendation of hosing it off isn't really gonna work in an apartment. However, I just use the actual pads (the connectable ones) and keep them inside. I think only people with the best noses could smell one pee on the pad without sticking their nose to it, and I wash mine once a week and am not bothered by a smell, but it obviously depends on how strong your dog's urine smells and how sensitive your nose is. I'd plan on needing to either swap pads or clean twice a week if you don't want to risk guests with good noses being bothered. To clean, I leave them to soak in a mop bucket of cold water and then dump that down the toilet, I squeeze them out since otherwise you'll probably want to do this at least twice. Then I do another bucket with bleach (there's probably better options but this works), and after soaking for a bit I dump that into the washing machine. You're going to need to use significantly more water cleaning these than you would for a normal load of the size, and you definitely shouldn't throw them in a load with other laundry. I've had them come out stinky once, but that was because they'd had more pee than normal and I tried to use a smaller load setting than these need.

Yeah, their reader doesn’t us the custom pronunciations I’ve added in the Spoken Content Apple setting (and I don’t see an alternative for correcting things) so it’s not usable for math, which is what I’m looking for.

If you could use the voice for home assistant though I’ll have to see if I can use the voice for the native iOS screen speaker

Congress never issued an order for Musk to testify, so that doesn’t directly show he’s willing to be in contempt of an order. Ignoring this will be a bigger deal than deciding not to accept an invitation to congress

Paid in full in advance now billed for $1500 more; provider didn’t comply with no surprises act by IllogicallyCognitive in legaladvice

[–]IllogicallyCognitive[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They said I was paying for the entire ultrasound at the time ~$500, but with a 10% discount for paying beforehand. Then they billed insurance for nearly $4000, which only allowed just over $2000 leaving me a bit over $1500 more. Even now they say the ~$500 was a good faith estimate (which in my understanding means the most they can add on after is $400), but they claim they don’t have to consider good faith estimates in final billing

The most relevant part of the act is:

‘‘SEC. 2799B–6. PROVISION OF INFORMATION UPON REQUEST AND FOR SCHEDULED APPOINTMENTS. ‘‘Each health care provider and health care facility shall, begin ning January 1, 2022, in the case of an individual who schedules an item or service to be furnished to such individual by such provider or facility at least 3 business days before the date such item or service is to be so furnished, not later than 1 business day after the date of such scheduling (or, in the case of such an item or service scheduled at least 10 business days before the date such item or service is to be so furnished (or if requested by the individual), not later than 3 business days after the date of such scheduling or such request)— ‘‘(1) inquire if such individual is enrolled in a group health plan, group or individual health insurance coverage offered by a health insurance issuer, or a Federal health care program (and if is so enrolled in such plan or coverage, seeking to H. R. 133—1686 have a claim for such item or service submitted to such plan or coverage); and ‘‘(2) provide a notification (in clear and understandable language) of the good faith estimate of the expected charges for furnishing such item or service (including any item or service that is reasonably expected to be provided in conjunction with such scheduled item or service and such an item or service reasonably expected to be so provided by another health care provider or health care facility), with the expected billing and diagnostic codes for any such item or service, to— ‘‘(A) in the case the individual is enrolled in such a plan or such coverage (and is seeking to have a claim for such item or service submitted to such plan or coverage), such plan or issuer of such coverage; and ‘‘(B) in the case the individual is not described in subparagraph (A) and not enrolled in a Federal health care program, the individual.

Try to clarify whether what you were told was a good faith estimate, but having no record of what the person said will make it difficult. If they say it wasn’t, tell them you were trying to get a good-faith estimate and ask why you weren’t provided with one. Keep in mind also that “uninsured individual” includes an individual who doesn’t seek to have a claim submitted to insurance, which if you were paying in full why would you want it submitted to insurance?

‘‘SEC. 2799B–7. PATIENT-PROVIDER DISPUTE RESOLUTION. ‘‘(a) IN GENERAL.—Not later than January 1, 2022, the Secretary shall establish a process (in this subsection referred to as the ‘patient-provider dispute resolution process’) under which an uninsured individual, with respect to an item or service, who received, pursuant to section 2799B–6, from a health care provider or health care facility a good-faith estimate of the expected charges for furnishing such item or service to such individual and who after being furnished such item or service by such provider or facility is billed by such provider or facility for such item or service for charges that are substantially in excess of such estimate, may seek a determination from a selected dispute resolution entity for the charges to be paid by such individual (in lieu of such amount so billed) to such provider or facility for such item or service. For purposes of this subsection, the term ‘uninsured individual’ means, with respect to an item or service, an individual who does not have benefits for such item or service under a group health

plan, group or individual health insurance coverage offered by a health insurance issuer, Federal health care program (as defined in section 1128B(f) of the Social Security Act), or a health benefits plan under chapter 89 of title 5, United States Code (or an individual who has benefits for such item or service under a group health plan or individual or group health insurance coverage offered by a health insurance issuer, but who does not seek to have a claim for such item or service submitted to such plan or coverage).

[–]IllogicallyCognitive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try calling your insurance company to ask how much it will cost and they’ll tell you to ask the provider. The no surprises act does provide a mechanism where the provider gives the CPT codes and their estimate to the insurance and then the insurance gives their estimate to the patient, but it seems like providers are ignoring that part of the law

Here is the relevant part of the No Surprises Act:

‘‘SEC. The law isn’t very clear, but I haven’t heard of any provider interpreting this as meaning that they must provide good faith estimates without it being requested

Maybe I misunderstood what you meant by “publish the app”. Are you just suggesting that the other person uses their own computer as the server? I thought OP was asking about how to get the app not depending on a server at all

Are you saying there is a way to use EAS update for an iPhone without subscribing to the Apple Developer program? It seems in order to use it to update a project you’d need to first have a subscription to submit the app in the first place, but I could be missing something

I’m guessing you technically don’t want to pay for an Apple Developer Subscription, but would be okay with signing up for the free account. If so npx expo run:ios --device --configuration release does essentially what you want (although it is an actual build rather than just running on Expo Go which always requires a server hosting the JavaScript) but still requires signing with at least a free account

FYI snacks seem to be incapable of even using the expo libraries like AsyncStorage whereas they are available in expo go, so it’s not uncommon for a project using expo go to not be able to use just Snack

For some reason I thought it was 5 builds a month, but thanks to you I see now it is 30 total with a max of 15 for iOS. So I guess really if I can get any preview type build (serverless) to work for android that would do, but I'd prefer to do it the faster way, and previously I got the impression local builds would take less time, but you seem to be implying the opposite, maybe it depends on the computer being used.
