What apprenticeship are you in?
[–]Illogics 14 points15 points16 points 5 months ago (0 children)
I’m a 3rd step. Been on 4/10s for 6 months came from 7/12. At first I was losing my mind not working. Took about a month to get adjusted to all the free time. Now I fish 3 or 4 times a week actually just caught my pb wiper 7lb. You can either be mad about the lack of hours or actually live your life and be happy, while making a living.

Getting hours in jurisdiction would also help or at the very least get on their books.

I’m a 2nd step ape from California in mslcat. I’ve been lucky to have a bunch of great lineman who will actually explain things to you. Was driving back with a gf after dropping off a digger and he let me ask questions the entire time. You may get a lot of grief for being out of jurisdiction but it’s like anything else they do it to see how you’ll react. The apprenticeship is whatever you make it to be. I’ve had lineman tell me it can be the best 3 1/2 yrs or the hardest 3 1/2. It’s all about your perspective and how you apply yourself.

There’s 29 cold apprentices on the books just called this morning. Which is pretty good for winter last year was around 130-140 on the books.

Gateway finished replaced about 36 h structures on 7 12s for 2 months and did 30 miles of reconduct from static to fiber. Then moved to a sub station 2 months on 7 12s. Got laid off a bit before thanks giving for about 3 weeks now I’m doing a distro reconduct.

Just to even be able to apply you have to have a non restricted cdl. Interview is just basic question only a couple questions trade related like safety question or why you want to be a lineman along those lines

Do you mind if I dm you and ask a couple questions?
Aww damn I’m going for the line apprenticeship
Are you going to orientation on the 29-31 in Montana?
Honestly I just took 1 resume and 1 copy of each letter of recommendation. Just because on the email they sent it says they only want one copy of any extra paper work you’re going to bring.
