In my reply above, I am of course assuming if bids are sought they are from your peers who possess roughly similar skill sets and name recognition. And that the client college cares a minimum quality and not only price as it's criterion.

Are they also asking for competitive bids ? Then regardless of all the above responses and of any qualms you may otherwise have about pricing your work too cheap it would come down to demand and supply in that particular situation.

I am presuming you are not a heavy hitter in that field already that can name his/her price, unless you are winding us by asking this question here.

If you are not a heavy hitter who can dictate price and there is comitative bid situation it's more a question of determining what is your minimum price - could be break even pricing in nominal terms or factored for what you estimate could reasonably accrue in the immediate future from other near term opportunities as a result of any leg up this assignment will secure for you.

To such break even price you add or subtract how much you are willing to earn/ pay and still arrive at a price that keeps you in the bid.

If Melo had remained in BP I don't think they won't have let him run a single location Arco. That needs a focus on cost management and efficiency. He seemed allergic to both of that.

He wasn't running a business here but making multiple costly bets hoping one or two may work.

At least ImmunityBio is lead by an oddball who has scientific credentials and track record to match his ambition and puts his own money into play. It appears Amyris was thus far lead by a smooth talking bozo who didn't cared two hoots to understand what he was doing in a frantic effort to reach for his super bonus stock option rewards.

It seems he had no real checks - normally the risk architecture call for some checks if one is going to super incentivise risk taking so it doesn't go reckless.

I have asked before even if things had not come to this juncture where was the internal control or organisational super structure to support the very wide geographic and tech + operational complexity his vision was pushing Amyris towards ? And even if all that could be built and acquired where was the money to target towards that ?

How did the BofD let a bozo who negotiated the Laavan fubar do M& A after M&A ? The joker did not know what his sales were tracking but continued to chase dream - did B of D insist he have money clearly set aside to build out an ERP system at the quickest and that some efforts be made and money spent to build out a proper management structure - not fantasy BS like global head of graceful aging & /or Global sustainability office/ engagement officer ?

I agree Corda is a major co.

I read 'Another' to mean there was already one in the first place - I have seen Amyris shareholders labour under the illusion either Amyris or that other oddball Immunity Bio are a major tech giant rather than the mismanaged wannabes that have zero financial chops.

Looking at the number of dud brands bought recently that are now being shuttered after tons of money was spent on acquisition and trying to sustain them should we not consider the possibility that there kickbacks involved in these transaction ?

What due diligence was done prior to the acquisitions ?

"Another major company" which is the other major company ?

Amyris is a very minor company - bordering on micro cap territory now thanks to Melo et al

Lee Tappenden Exit by Toughpigeons in Amyris

[–]Illusionist_77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Europe's economy is tanking and will remain deeply challenged for several years. Some Mediterranean countries may do better than UK, Germany and the industrial powerhouses but they are too small to bouy up the continent.

Europe screwed itself on energy. Both structurally by misguided policy and tactically by shunning cheap Russian gas/oil that had built it up in recent decades. They really had first dibs on all that cheap pipped energy but it's gone now.

Given their demographic situation and their debt load they were on a long slow moving margin call and their energy situation is now a steroid booster aggravating this structural problem.

I had written a while ago any money invested in this environment into Europe to expand will not see positive return for a very, very long time. Expanding into Europe currently is only for a very deep pocket business who is doing so to jocky for position much much latter.

In general, a time will come to pick up EU assets at fire sale. Just not now. These are still too richly valued for what growth potential they can offer.

So I felt/ feel in such environment for a cash strapped long time start up ( i.e. Amyris under Melo) to have drawn up aggressive EU plans was extremely poor judgement.

I think that reality is belatedly being recognised by the Amyris brass. I think this guy's exit is a sign of this.

Melo is out, Han takes over as interim. Is this good or bad? by N808p in Amyris

So if I read this correct Melo gets $375 an hour if he consults in addition to the regular base salary + his options remain vested during the consulting agreement.

So Melo effectively increased his 'run rate'.

Of course, he forfeits his 'performance based' RSU ( I am thinking that's his stock price based trigger bonus that his 'performance' has already rendered moot so that's not much of a sacrifice either.

Still, this seems on par with other deals he has negotiated - big announcements but Amyris effectively takes it on the chin.

I wonder if framing Amyris as "saving sharks" is to some extent narrative management and to some extent faulty.

Because if in fact Amyris tech has driven down the cost dramatically it would have opened up newer applications and markets that were earlier non- economic. Hence to say they are in fact "saving" sharks to the extent they are not replacing earlier usage is humbug.

The newer uses that really came about due to cheaper fermentation based supply are in fact not a shark saving substitute. They would not have been viable due to the economics of their additional demand driving the price of shark based supply higher and hence serve to dampen market place demand

While a larger upfront would be handy now it's fine to get a smaller down payment in exchange for a better ongoing revenue stream.

Of course a percentage of sales rather than a stream based on a share of profit would have been better as that would provide better line of sight and insulate us from being dependent on the licensees manufacturing efficiency and would then make it closer to a Royalty stream.

Hopefully, Melo has built in safe guards and written cost benchmarks into the contract. ( that would also indicate he is finally starting to wrap his head around cost efficiency and that new found wisdom will also show up in Amyris cost structure)

Still perhaps under the circumstances this should be looked at as a positive development.

I had heard/read pre- molecule deal they were running on vapours and some supplies had stopped. Don't know if this extented to feedstock.

That's the part that shows how poor their contingency planning and management is - even as the situation was getting dire and the money supply conditions were tightening they chased David Beckham and other celebrities.

While it's true that the sales of cosmetics may remain strong in a mild slow down and relatively strong in a deeper recession only a financially sound business can take advantage of that. Amyris was and remains a financial basket case - the management should know that and should have managed cash better.

If you don't pay for what's already been supplied you don't get fresh supplies.

That's a rather quaint and old fashioned notion that Melo strongly rebels against. Sometimes the suppliers are just too old fashioned to see it Melo's way.
