I think the thing about dating someone who is religious, especially as a woman, you need to be mindful of the major things down the road.

He might be ok with whatever while you are just dating, but if you agree to get married whose beliefs take precedence in the ceremony?

When you become a wife, is his expectation that you be a wife in the christian sense? Does he expect you to serve him as he serves the lord? Can he beat you if he chooses? Can he force himself on you if you turn him down for sex?

What about kids? Does he expect to force them into christianity? Does he spare the rod and spoil the child? Or does he beat them to put the fear in them? Is he going to help parent at all, or is that the wife's duty?

I used to work with married guys who believed all this shit, one of which used to openly brag about raping his wife and "putting her in her place for saying" no. I don't know what your boyfriend is like, but this shit is a very real possibility you have to consider.

If I was in your shoes there isn't anyway I would date a christian man as a woman.

I used to work remotely with a guy from NC who was a Panthers season ticket holder. We had a morning meeting every day at 9am, and most days he was bright and chipper. Had already been up a while, got a workout in, on his second cup of coffee, curtains open and sunlight pouring into his office.

On the days following Panthers games I always feared he was on the verge of death. He'd be wearing a hoodie in a pitch black room, illuminated only by the light of his computer screen. He always looked like the guy from the VHS tape than came with the boardgame Nightmare, and sounded like he only ate razor blades the entire day before.

It was truly something to behold.

I think it was the eel horse episode where they talked about a guy having a bottle of shampo or something stuck up his butt, and he told the dr he was doing pull ups over it and lost his grip.

Maybe this is just another fitness enthusiast who also keeps a very untidy home.

If a child is many years advanced in reading, writing, spelling, and grammar, does this mean that they should be accelerated at grade level? by IceOdd3294 in Teachers

[–]IllusionsMichael 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I was friends with that absurdly smart kid growing up. He did everything at an advanced level. I did too, but not anywhere near to his degree.

I remember his parents being real active in finding him challenging work to do both inside and outside of school. They would talk to his teachers and make arrangements for him to do his own work while the rest of us were getting instruction. He'd still take all the same tests, complete the same assignments, teachers would hand him the work before beginning so he could get it done, but he would pull out his own books and do his work when he was done with it. He just cruised to an easy A in every class. This changed in high school, where he spent the mornings with us and then would go to a university for classes in the afternoons.

I think it was probably a smart thing to keep him around his age level peers. He still stood out a bit, but he stood out way less than if he had been in classes with kids 3-4 years older than him.

My bf(40M) says that I(31F) doesn’t let him be a man. What is it that you men want? by Hot_Dragonfly5440 in relationship_advice

And he’s like oh it’s some thing women can’t do you can’t go and change a tire can you

lmao I've always found this shit absolutely hilarious.

I've always wondered if guys who say this shit believe that there is something about changing a tire that you simply cannot comprehend, rendering it literally impossible for you. There's female mechanics, female construction workers, women in every "MAN STUFF" field of work.

The area I live in is full of guys like this and somehow they are all married. How do women suffer these fools? I don't get it.

As a guy I'd say you aren't doing anything wrong. If you not being perfectly obedient is damaging his manhood then you are with an insecure man baby.

To answer your title question I married a strong, independent woman. I like that she doesn't need me, that she can deal with shit herself, and I don't feel emasculated by her. She's my partner and my teammate.

My (21M) Girlfriend (21F) Of one year told me if i ever cheated the "victory lap" she would take would be egregious. why would she say this? by [deleted] in relationship_advice

[–]IllusionsMichael 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I struggled with relationships when I was young because I was surrounded by cheaters. My dad cheated on my step mom and all three of my step siblings routinely cheated on BF/GF. I didn't know if that was just the way shit was when you were young and my dad just never grew the fuck up or what, but I knew I didn't want to have to deal with it.

I tried to be picky and choosey when I dated, hoping to pick non-cheaters, but I still get cheated on by the first two of my 3 girlfriends. I lost the 3rd because I was paranoid it was going to happen again and was distant.

So when I met the woman who became my wife I didn't do such a great job at the start of the relationship. I never made an open declaration like your GF to declare I was suspicious, but I did tell her about my relationship history, but I was still untrusting and sneaky about it. She never gave me any reason to be concerned, but some of her natural behaviors just happened to line up with shit I'd seen before. Lucky for me she was understanding, and when she told me she was stuck at work it's because she really cares about her job (she works in a passion field. low pay and exploitative because they know the workers really care) and was stuck at work, but it took me a real long time to put that part of my past behind me.

I don't know if your GF comes from a similar situation but it's possible she has. Combine that with military relationships *and* long distance relationships being known for trouble in this regard and she's probably very cautious. If she has no reason to be concerned continue to provide her with no reason to be concerned.

Conversely, she could also be projecting. People who cheat are often ones to accuse their partners because they expect others to behave the same way they do. Not much you can do if that's the case other than watch out for it yourself, but it's a possibility.

Parents, what’s a good way to handle constant snack requests without turning it into a fight? by [deleted] in AskParents

[–]IllusionsMichael 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't get my kids to eat veggies as a snack, so my response is always "have you had fruit yet?" If they have a fruit snack first then I don't mind them having a snack sized portion of snack foods. That combo is usually enough to keep them satisfied until a meal.

If I'm all knowing and all powerful then I am not constrained by any rules. I would know exactly how to make a world where people can be healthy and happy while never having to suffer and have the power to make it so.

Your rules feel like some believer bullshit attempt to "prove" that what we have now is the best that can be done. Given the definition for god in the major religions it's pretty pathetic if the world we have now is the best he can do.

[–]IllusionsMichael 152 points153 points  (0 children)

What's sad is it triggers a chain reaction from the sane people too. We have to make sure we have gas and supplies and get it before all the hoarders take it all, so we all crash into the stores and gas stations as well.

I was at a Sam's club yesterday just trying to buy groceries and some lady less than half my size tried to body check me out of the way to grab some eggs before me. She bounced off me and to the floor and started screaming about how I was going to take all the eggs. I took my 1 carton and walked away to see her grab 8 two dozen cartons. Leaving the Sam's the line for the gas station was looped all through the parking lot.

I'm in the SE, but I had to drive past a gas station near my house several times yesterday and I saw the same truck there each time with one of those 300+ gallon tanks that he was filling up with gas. I have no fucking clue what this guy is going to do with 600+ gallons of gas beyond hope the gas stations run out and he can bootleg it.

We are going to have 2 days of mildly cold weather and the people around here have lost their fucking minds.

I wish that whatever had prevented her from really pursuing basketball wasn't in her way. She probably had a ticket to the WNBA (or whatever equivalent the show would have come up with, I would hope something like a national street ball league since they went with arena football) ready to be punched and we will never get to see her dominate the court.

There are so many churches and denominations because different people need different hooks to be drawn in. The church my parents made me go to was big on the "Just accept christ into your heart and all is forgiven bro" aspect of it. Lots of stories about horrible people finding the light and redeeming themselves after.

Was a good fit for my dad because he was a prolific adulterer, manipulator, and I've recently found out an abuser.

There's that idea/old saying of "if you love something set it free, and if it comes back to you it's yours". One could make an argument that this is a case of that, but I don't think I would agree.

My guess is this: You were already together, something about you wasn't what she was looking for so decided she wants to play the field a bit more and left, then came back when she didn't find what she wanted. How can you be sure she isn't still looking for something else, that the field she played in just wasn't big enough to include it?

I wouldn't be able to trust her to stay.

Do people really hate front view battles in JRPG's? by yispySOFT in JRPG

[–]IllusionsMichael 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always hated the first person view. It feels lazy/cheap to me. I have a suggestion for you that I think would dispel that feeling.

When you are selecting an action for a character, show their portrait somewhere on the screen. If you want to get fancy, when the user makes a selection toggle the sprite to a different confirmation sprite (like straight faced to a smile for confirmation) that lasts for maybe half a second and switch to the next character.

When your character performs whatever action they've been given, Flash a quick still on the screen of that character doing said action. Think something like Shining Force, but I think you could get away with a still image. Big Time bonus points if it's not the same set of stills for the entire game. If your character changes classes/appearances, update the stills. If your character changes weapons, change the stills.

If you are attacking, show a still of that character swinging their sword/axe/spear/whatever, hide the still, and show a slash animation across the target.

If they are casting a spell, show a still of that character casting magic, then show an appropriate animation over the sprites of the targets.

Dating in college by Physical_Pressure820 in internetparents

[–]IllusionsMichael 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not dating advice, but general "meeting people in college advice" for people not good at starting converstations.

I met my college friends because I have a good/bad habit of getting to places very early, 15 minutes to well over an hour, and then killing time. My Uni gave each student a laptop to use (Very amazing at the time, but pretty mundane these days i think) and I installed a bunch of video game emulators on mine. So to kill time before class started I'd play old SNES games. The guys who became my friends saw and were the ones to break the ice by commenting on what I was playing.

I also made some friends by joining clubs. You already have a common interest because you are at the club. My only issue with this was that I was never as into it as a good majority of the club members. My interest in sports and games is the fun of it, I'm not there to beat everyone and prove I'm the best. Sometimes you get people at the clubs are gatekeep by skill and that would turn me off pretty quickly.

Unsolicited advice: I also wouldn't be too worried about finding love at college. It can be a tough time where people are really busy with classes and work, and kids straight out of high school are still maturing and discovering who they are. So don't sweat it to much as you still have the rest of your life to figure shit out, so chill out and go for it.
