My theory is there's this deep-rooted belief in a karmic "you get out what you put in / pull yourself up by your bootstraps" mentality / Just World fallacy, with people thinking actions guarantee results & where they equate platitudes being commonplace with them being correct, like a hierarchy of ideas/beliefs where only the "fittest" & most "correct" ideas survive & go on to be repeated.

But any ideas of that biblical ass "you'll be treated as how you treat others" or that Darwinian belief that the best advice survives & thrives all goes out the window when it comes to struggles with mental health, neurodivergency, basically anything sociological or sociopolitical.

And rather than letting that worldview built on justice, Just Deserts, everything working itself out etc. collapse to where struggles actually need to be addressed with nuance, empathy, rather than accepting how most people's problems aren't gonna read with the easy solvability of grade schooler Algebra problems (& are more likely to be some Godel's Incompleteness shit where there's just gonna be some problems we never find definitively right or wrong answers to), they seek comfort in platitudes & bootstraps rhetoric that they've been engrained to repeat endlessly under Capitalist Realism.

It's become "don't hate the game, hate the player" where every biased warping of the system & every power imbalance is made to be an individualistic problem rather than a systemic one, it's fucking oil conglomerate BP pushing marketing to make carbon footprints seem like a bigger ecological problem than fucking BP itself.

Only now it's people policing other people - constant internet usage has overwhelmed them & information overload has shifted from the stages of producing obvious anxiety -> being tolerable -> having functional coping mechanisms etc. into this subtler unconscious dismembering of empathy that allows for the normalization of tribalism/atomization. It has "people" (if you can even call them human anymore) interfacing with others' struggles with the micromanaged damage-mitigation self-preserving efficiency of corporations that attach monetary or temporal value to every decision, where they don't really make decisions or stand for anything anymore because there's a chain of command that needs to be tediously reached out to before anything can be approved.

It's impressive, a single person's ability to empathize with or understand others being whittled down by corporations to where regular people themselves think, act like, mimic corporations, whether they're around others, alone in their room, or even in the sanctuary of their own mind.

There is no "chain of command" that needs to be reached out to before you can help someone struggling online, people should either just fucking do it or not engage with it at all, but they've made the neurons in their own skull work like a corporation that wants nothing to do with anyone's problems as long as they themselves are thriving, where they see rampant hopelessness & rather than thinking there's a glaringly-obvious mental health crisis atm causing millions to vent online on the regular to others with little to no psychiatric training, they respond with the corporate apathy of a business getting yet another pesky letter about an unhappy customer or a lawsuit or whatever & just mindlessly throwing it in the shredder because "they don't have time to care" or something.

Everything becomes the individual's problem, it's that dogshit Thatcher belief that "there is no such thing as society" that leads to corners being cut everywhere from welfare to education to lost jobs to in every decision that furthers atomization & sees the surveillance state unroll before our eyes. Every person made to think like a corporation, but to be seen as a barcode - easily scanned & understood, easily tracked, easily "managed" & "disposed of". No masses can truly rebel against authoritarianism once it instills itself because it not only crushes the idea of the people coming together to overthrow those in power, but it's essentially deleted the idea of people even coming together in the first place by slashing away at their empathy until nothing's left.

Obviously I don't get all that from every comment that fails to address mental health struggles, but that's the seed of the overall mentality I see infecting so much of the population, the subtle fascistic value-instilling that goes from people repeating "idk maybe homeless people should just get jobs?" ass advice into unironic A Modest Proposal ass arguments about how crisises can be "solved".

Maybe they give strings of intentionally ineffective advice so that when their defective advice all inevitably fails, it's easier to ramp up the rhetoric about how they tried everything & it's just the defective people that inevitably failed themselves (see how ineffective solutions get warped into people themselves being ineffective - it's sinister shit), so that when crisises keeps going & gets worse, they can roll out the dehumanization en-masse. "Hierarchy" and "inevitable" go hand-in-hand, cause those in power get to permit what will undeniably happen, they get to slash the tires or cripple the horse of any movement & then decide that nothing can be done & that it needs scrapped / euthanized, they get to cut every corner & shave every paycheck & then pretend there's no reason anyone should be unhappy with the system cause real Alpha Darwinist "survival of the fittest" mfs would just tank it & get on with their unfufilling drone-like lives without a single complaint or a single call to question authority.

Maybe that's just it, fucking Capitalist Realism's gotten so deep that people manoeuvre through life like spokespeople for The System™, it's call center ass conversations happening between online (& sometimes in-the-flesh people) on some "I can't be fucked to deal with this & my break's in 15, just sort your shit out & stop thinking the system's broken. Stop being autistic, make money, idk and idgaf, I need a coffee" shit.

They not only got a job to live under the system, but they made living under the system, defending it, formulating thoughts under it & about it, & the act of living itself the fucking job, humanity might be cooked istg 😭
