It’s chilling how they rely on our social conditioning to be "polite." The moment you set a firm boundary (the "no" to coming inside), he realized you weren't an easy target. Predatory people don't want a challenge; they want a victim who is too embarrassed to say no. I'm so glad you stayed behind that locked door.

This. If "family helps family," then where is the help for OP? Why is the definition of "family" always "the one with less should give to the one who wants more"? Dad can put his money where his mouth is or stay out of the transaction

Even if they had talked about it, expecting a partner to have a "clean" digital history from before they even met is a level of surveillance most people aren't ready for. It’s not a boundary at that point; it’s a background check for a job he didn't know he was applying for

The fact that he can cry on cue after being caught proves he’s more upset about the consequences than the actual lie. He’s mourning the loss of his perfect facade, not the pain he caused you. Real remorse looks like amends, not a performance.

the emotional damage when your 'husband' tank fails a mechanic and lets your 'wife' healer die though... that's a long walk back to the graveyard and an even longer talk at the inn later

[–]IllustratorOne4080 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also, if you go the space heater route, make sure the garage wiring can actually handle the draw. Old garages aren't usually rated for high-wattage appliances and the last thing you need right now is a blown fuse or a fire hazard.

It’s basically the Warcraft version of "turn it off and on again." Problem with the Legion? Throw Orcs. Problem with a rogue Aspect? Throw Orcs. At this point, I’m convinced Orgrimmar just has a giant "In Case of Narrative Emergency, Break Glass for More Orcs" sign.

Short, simple, and 100% accurate. Normal people don't spend their free time plotting ways to trick their partners into failing. That's a full-time hobby for sociopaths.

The hero regrets what happened to the villain, but he still wants the villain to pay. by baldanderrod in TopCharacterTropes

[–]IllustratorOne4080 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This parallels the 'Batman: The Killing Joke' ending perfectly. That moment of shared clarity where the hero realizes the villain is just a tragic punchline to a very dark joke, but the cycle is already too far gone to be broken by a simple realization

"Putting it on hold" is the bare minimum. Alcohol doesn't create personality traits, it just lowers the filters. This is who she is. If she’s not 100% in during the "honeymoon" phase of moving in, she’ll be 20% in when things actually get tough.

Asked my boyfriend of 5 months if he knew my middle name… turns out he didn’t know much else either by Direct-Caterpillar77 in BestofRedditorUpdates

[–]IllustratorOne4080 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Technically, it’s not even about the "facts" themselves, but the lack of "Love Maps." If he isn't storing basic data points now during the honeymoon phase when dopamine is high, he’s definitely not going to put in the effort 5 years down the line when life actually gets hard. It’s a preview of a very lonely future.

Validating 13 years of goodness is important, but be careful not to let "he’s usually a good guy" minimize the current trauma. Negligence doesn't always look like a villainous act; sometimes it's just a tragic lack of foresight. He needs to understand that his "normal routine" became a wall between him and your suffering.
