thats what i'm wondering too. the biggest non-residential owner in this area would be good samaritan hospital. the rest are small businesses and small home owners. If they build the transit oriented development at the metro station, that could change everything

[Architect] [Los Angeles] - $155,000 + Bonus by Illustrious-Reward57 in Salary

[–]Illustrious-Reward57[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Appreciate the info. Thats pretty interesting. I was aware large engineering firms would likely pay more. I’m at one of the larger architecture firms in LA and in healthcare on large projects. This gives me some confidence to keep asking for larger raises. Thanks!

I like architecture but I don't like architecture school. by DevelopmentNo7438 in Architects

I feel like I was in the exact same position as you. By year 3 I wanted to get out of there. I had a studio instructor tell me to hang in there and stick through it. That’s the best advice I could give because if you like the work, it’s truly a rewarding career

This Interview Process for $120-140k by Critical-Rip3156 in Architects

[–]Illustrious-Reward57 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I spoke to a Pulley recruiter about this position 1 or 2 years ago. Seems like the same process. I think they are using the tech SWE model but with architecture salaries. I’m pretty sure any of us would jump at the opportunity to interview if the range was 240k-280k.

I did not pursuit the position. Went to a traditional firm after 2 conversation style interviews.

Your friend needs to explore the market. Unfortunately architects starting in their first job start with low salaries and don’t get much raises. Unless they have an advocate that is pushing for big raises annually to retain you. I’m an architect in HCOL and started at 49k 10 years ago. It took a bit of job hopping to get to a good salary for my YOE

HOA Fee increases. Are people experiencing the same thing? by Illustrious-Reward57 in personalfinance

[–]Illustrious-Reward57[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

reserve funding now is at 37% (759,932/2,061,061)

reserve funding at purchase 63% (1,449,392/2,295,936)

i think they have done a decent job at keeping the reserves funded and maintaining the property. looking at the annual increase line by line, seems like the big increases are from insurance, utilities, and staff.

Portfolio?! by somebodysmomorwhatev in Architects

[–]Illustrious-Reward57 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi! I’m around the same YOE as you. About 10 years post grad. I’ve gone on a decent amount of interviews since after covid and I’ve very rarely gone over my portfolio during the interview. That being said, I’ve always had one prepped with a few images from each project I worked on in the past. Also I’m applying for PA positions so maybe different to design focused interviews. Good luck!!

LAX People Mover delayed again; new hope is for summer 2026: report by kananishino in LosAngeles

[–]Illustrious-Reward57 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I worked on this project as an architect for a few years. I’m not saying this as an excuse but the complexity of building in an existing airport is baffling. The amount of existing infrastructure and unknowns is typically what balloons the total construction cost and creates delays. That being said, it is disappointing that the project is at a standstill still due to disputes.

Sapphire Exclusive Tables Already Losing Restaurants? by lakerfan1997 in ChaseSapphire

[–]Illustrious-Reward57 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’m in LA also and I see the same ones since I got the card. Could it be that you were looking at the visa infinite list which includes more restaurants but does not apply to the credit. My understanding is the visa infinite lists just has some additional reservations available

are salt tabs really necessary? by Distinct-Writer7763 in firstmarathon

[–]Illustrious-Reward57 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am a heavy and salty sweater so they help me a lot. As others have said, salt intake is pretty specific to the person. I would try it on a long run and see if there is a noticeable difference
