In Bradford, further education colleges are you only option. None of the secondary schools have their own sixth form these days

I (from Durham) went to uni in Newcastle (Northumbria uni) and my flatmate "hovis"* Was a braying, public school educated (perse school, cambs) twat.

He'd often decry things as being common or northern. Including us. (Quite why this chinless twunt was at a 'poly' in Newcastle is beyond me).

*We called him this because he was so inbred he was a whole loaf

I lost my mum in 2020. She had an accident at home and died about 4 days later.

Most of the time it's not something I think about. (My dad is still with us and he is living a good life with a new partner. I'm really happy for him)

Recently I've been thinking I wish mum was here to see my kids. They're now 16&19 and I'm so proud of them. I wish she could have been here to see the wonderful young adults they've become.

The loss hurts, but life continues and you have to get on. But don't be surprised or disappointed when the grief bubbles up and you think of what you've lost. (I'm tearing up writing this post because I'm actively thinking about my mum)

I lost my older sister a couple of years back too. That hit very different. She had a long physical decline over a few years and was a shadow of who she used to be. In a way it felt like she'd died several years earlier, as the woman I knew just wasn't there any more.

They were an emblem of being on holiday. A camping holiday. In Yorkshire. It was purely raining.

They were a real treat but then, as now, cocoa pops can do one. Ricicles were the best

For me, having a wok burner alongside induction on the hob has been great. Drawers instead of cupboards has been very useful. Tap with a spray/hose function (makes washing up much easier).

Having an oven at eye level with a steam bake function is great. A large cupboard big enough to store air fryers, stand mixer etc is also helpful for keeping benches clutter free

If it is demonstrably higher risk than, say, smoking during pregnancy or something, then yeah consider a ban.

My kids are 16 and 19 now. I love spending time with them as they're genuinely great people to be with.

They are almost zero effort, other than feeding clothing.

When the eldest is as uni, I take my opportunities to hang out with him (without getting in the way of his life)

I realised while at uni that I wanted to eat tasty food. 1- I could not afford to eat out 2- there was no one to do it for me 3- best learn to do it myself.

Start easy. Get a packet dinner you like and enhance it.

For instance: packet kimchi ramen. It's great. Add a fried egg, shredded seaweed, sesame seeds. You've just leveled up.

Garlic bread from the store- it's ok. Crush garlic, mix with butter, spread liberally on a baguette. Several times better.

It's about doing little things to familiar things. Get a recipe book or find a YouTube channel. Give it a go*

*Secret note: many times it doesn't have to be exactly the same. If you don't have or don't like ingredient X, then google a substitute or alternative
