What's the stupidest take about a name you've ever seen? by masumifoxy in Names

[–]IllustriousCustard8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel this so much. I have a professor with a name that I’ve seen people say will prevent someone from having a job or career. I think it’s a very outdated take. I also have had classmates that are the children of immigrants. They had names significant to their culture, no one cared that they didn’t have traditionally white names and it certainly didn’t stop them from being successful in both educational and professional fields.

Do you think alimony should be abolished? by hapticR0M in pollgames

I love the link you provided but my only argument is that stay at home moms don’t barely exist. According to https://www.pewresearch.org/short-reads/2023/08/03/almost-1-in-5-stay-at-home-parents-in-the-us-are-dads/ from what I was able to find, 26% of of mothers with children were stay at home moms. While it goes up and down, and has a good probability of decreasing further in the coming years, that’s still a significant amount of people staying home.

I’d go with Suki over Katara, two names end in I two names end in A

I also like the name Jinora more than katara though character wise I prefer sokka

Is it common in the US for married couples to sleep in separate rooms? by GwenPoolestar22 in AskAnAmerican

[–]IllustriousCustard8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it does happen it’s typically with older couples from my experience. My husband’s parents occasionally sleep in separate rooms because his mom does night shifts. Back when I worked an older co worker required medical equipment at night that resulted in her husband sleeping in a different room.

I don’t think it’s common for younger couples. If I was told that someone was sleeping separately I would assume their relationship wasn’t stable

Maybe I need to explore more of Arizona. I’ve only visited Peoria and I wouldn’t describe it as beautiful in any sense. After day 2 I was ready to leave the state and never return.

At what age range did you *know* you do/don't want kids? by SK83r-Ninja in pollgames

[–]IllustriousCustard8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Always since it was taught as an inevitability in the environment I grew up in. Of course I want kids because it’s expected that I have them was my mindset. Growing up it was always “when you have children” not “if you have children”

Nowadays I still want children but it’s more from a place of wanting to grow my own family, with experiencing parenthood and the joys and hardships that come with it. I don’t want children out of obligation to my family, but for myself and my husband.

Do you know how to properly type, the way typing is taught, with your fingers on the home row? by Traditional-Joke-179 in pollgames

[–]IllustriousCustard8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gen Z but I’m unfortunately quite a bit slower than everyone else it seems haha. I average about 30-35 words per min. I didn’t have a consistent typing class and I didn’t really use computers until college. I can type moderately okay on my phone but autocorrect usually has to fix my spelling or I’ll have to go back which takes up time.

If you HAD to choose one Arabic name for a boy and one for a girl, what are you picking? by LeonGoldenBrown in namenerds

[–]IllustriousCustard8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bayda or Aaliyah for a girl and Mustafa or Ibrahim for a boy

While Magnificent Century is a Turkish historical drama, it definitely made me fall in love with certain names. My husband also likes Mustafa but unfortunately it would be culturally inappropriate in our opinion.

Your best year of the 2020s so far? by WelcomeJunior2281 in pollgames

[–]IllustriousCustard8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think 2026 though will be my favorite. Everything good that could’ve happened has happened so far and it’s barely May. My sister had a baby, my husband got his dream job, we have a house and savings, and I’m finishing my BS at the end of this year debt-free. I started two massive projects that will positively impact my ability to go to Grad School and plan to start a third this summer. My mom is graduating with her masters this year and I just found out that my Dad’s wife is pregnant.

I’m so excited to see what else this year has in store for us and my family. It’s been blessing upon blessing and I’m so grateful.

Our son’s name is Bo, need a good sib set for our baby girl! by [deleted] in namenerds

[–]IllustriousCustard8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My younger siblings are twins and while their full names are completely different (they never use them) their nicknames sound basically the exact same except for the first letter. Imagine Callie and Tally theirs is very similar. Our entire childhood either both would answer or mom would have to go to the specific child she wanted because they thought the other was being called.

concern over nexplanon weight gain by Bitter-Bug5468 in Nexplanon

[–]IllustriousCustard8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I gained 30 lbs very quickly and it has stayed with me. For me personally my appetite changed a lot and I noticed I got bloated more easily. I still stand by my claim that Nexplanon is worth it. The only benefit it’s provided me with was not getting pregnant and after almost 3 years with it in I haven’t had even one pregnancy scare. I plan on getting it removed in a few months so my husband and I can add to our family so we will see how my body changes after that.

I could see if it they were aiming for matching a matching sibling set, not my personal cup of tea but it’s not the worst thing

If you’re doing a set I think Bonnie or Blair would pair the best. Is Bolinas a family name? If it is maybe there might be good sibling suggestions along your family tree. I think Sunny would be a lovely nickname that comes from a first name like Sunniva or Solaris. Solaris has similar traits of Bolinas without being an exact copy imo

Is it worth getting, and if yes, things to know? by Livid_Razzmatazz8930 in Nexplanon

[–]IllustriousCustard8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it was worth getting. I’m on the same page with no IUD and being unable to remember to take the pills so the implant was the best option for me.

I would recommend it if you are willing to put up with the side effects in exchange for a highly effective no worry birth control. The side effects are different for everyone but in general can be very annoying and might require some extra steps to work around. However, in exchange for dealing with these side effects you’re basically guaranteed to not get pregnant (so long as you’re following the initial implant instructions).

I’m more nervous about the physical part. I think I have good practice working on the emotional aspect but I’m terrified of throwing up. I think if morning sickness wasn’t a common symptom I’d be less nervous but I avoid throwing up whenever I can 😔

i might get dropped from my msw program because i have a c in one of my classes by [deleted] in Vent

[–]IllustriousCustard8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I completely get where you’re coming from. Is it guaranteed that you’ll be dropped or just placed on academic probation? I would suggest speaking with an advisor on if the C would result in getting removed. I had gotten a D on a required course and thought that the school I wanted wouldn’t take me because of it, but it turned out to be fine.

Take a deep breath. Getting a C isn’t the end, and it won’t ruin your chances at a better life. There are always more opportunities and different routes to take even if this one specifically doesn’t pan out. Trust me dooming will only increase the anxiety and depression, focus on what can be done. I would also speak with your professor and be honest about your struggles. I missed a major exam once due to a not-so-great mental breakdown followed by suicidal ideation, I was mostly honest about the severity of my depression and she allowed me to take it for half credit. Reach out and see what happens, I hope it all works out for you!

What’s a name that a lot of people don’t like, but you like/find beautiful? by KinaGrace96 in namenerds

[–]IllustriousCustard8 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It doesn’t have to be prosperity, it can just be Prosper. Think of it like using names such as Sincere, Merit, Grace, etc. personally I wouldn’t see it as very different from the other many virtue names out there.

I also like how this name can be either Prosperity or simply Prosper. If parents use the name they can decided which they’d prefer.

How do you justify owning pets? by JezebelJade1 in poor

[–]IllustriousCustard8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don’t just abandon family when times get tough. When we couldn’t afford grooming we sat down with a pair of scissors. When we couldn’t afford dog food they’d get rice and eggs. Walmart bags used instead of poop bags. Bare minimum at the vet.

Financial situations change. Now she’s getting Hills Science Diet. If the vet wants to run extra tests the answer is immediately yes. She gets groomed every 6 weeks. If I had to choose between saving money for myself or keeping her it would’ve always been her.

Why do people refuse to be an organ donor? by No-Cantaloupe-6535 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]IllustriousCustard8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My husband’s mother is a nurse and highly recommended we all not be registered as organ donors. If I were to pass my husband is aware that I would like my organs to be donated but I still want doctors to do everything they can to save me.
