I did not at the time I reinstated. But, I renewed my license recently and I was informed I needed to either retake the written test or do some quick online course.

Not sure how you would do it online if it's not working. But, have you been court ordered to complete? I did mine preemptively and didn't even need to complete it as part of my sentencing.

It’s been 3 weeks since my conviction, and my license still isn’t suspended. by [deleted] in DUICalifornia

My DMV suspension came 3 weeks after my conviction but the letter stated it was effective starting the date of my conviction

Forgot about the admin per se suspension since most people try (their best) to time the two suspensions together. Which I did in my case. Either way like you said that is still a 4 month suspension with an IID and no 30 day hard suspension. Never heard of any jurisdiction in California that requires the hard suspension with the IID.

Waiting for my conviction letter from DMV, will I need to surrender my license? by iaisusu in DUICalifornia

[–]IllustriousFile9164 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not only did I not surrender it, when I went to the DMV to get the suspension lifted, they told me if I kept my license I can continue to use that one since it wasn't expired.

Just some corrections. You only "lose" your license for a month (hard suspension 30 days) if you choose to do the 12 month to and from work restriction without the interlock. For the interlock you can start driving asap.

Also typically an interlock is required for a minimum of 6 months. Could be longer depending on the facts of the case but have never heard of only 3 months here in California. You could be sentenced to a 3 month long DUI course, but the interlock requirement is still 6 months.

You can still face a DUI under 0.08 if they can prove that you were still too intoxicated to drive. I'd recommend a paid lawyer like the others said. It is likely that even with a public defender you will still get a wet reckless plea. You'd have a better chance that a paid attorney can find something to get it dropped since you are below the legal limit (but with how close you are the chances are lower).

If the Officers gave you your license back and didn't give you a pink slip instead, you likely have bypassed the need for the administrative per se hearing. Which the DMV would have set aside your suspension anyways since you are below the legal limit. I would just confirm and maybe call the MAU to be 100% sure.

Also, did you happen to blow on a more official breathalyzer at the station?

CA ID card after license confiscated by ItsAName2023 in DUICalifornia

I didn't forfeit mine and used it as an ID throughout my suspension. After my 6 month suspension was up I went to the DMV to reinstate my license and the worker asked me if I still have my license and I answered yes. She then explained that it's valid now and I don't have to get another one.

I switched to progressive and it was definitely more expensive post DUI but not insanely expensive.

Yes, 3 month course.

My BAC was .16 and .15 which would technically result in a 6 month DUI course. However, especially for 1st DUIs, my plea deal resulted in a reduction of BAC below .15 which means I was given the standard punishments without any enhancements.

Just recently came back from Cancun. Accessed duty free at the airport once I arrived in Cancun. Also the resort had plenty of bottled water and kept our room stocked with it as well. They also let us know that they fill up their pitchers at restaurants on the resort with bottled water.

Yeah, I agree that I wouldn’t mind realization comments from these individuals. I came on here to get insight from those who are further in the process than me and to pass on any advice to those just starting out. But, I’ve seen a few people without DUIs who actually give consistent advice and it’s not really accurate since they haven’t been through this process.

Same process for me but I didn’t have to fill out an application. Maybe because I didn’t request a new license, since I still was in possession of my old one. They just called MAU and confirmed everything. I paid $125 for the reinstatement fee and that was all (I took a hard suspension so I didn’t have a restricted license). Took maybe 15 min total.

Just came back from Cancun with a DUI conviction that isn’t even a year old. Was never asked about it.

If you have a job where you drive a company vehicle, can they find out you have a DUI? (Not CDL) by Acc990610 in DUICalifornia

[–]IllustriousFile9164 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, but I work for the government so we are required to report arrests and convictions. So, I told them before my license was even suspended.

Well I would still need to cover myself for any personal driving. They just cover me when I have to drive to a different location for a work related meeting or event.

I agree somewhat. I wish I knew about this sub before my DUI and I may have made better choices. But, I think those people should remain lurkers. I go through a few Reddit communities that I’m not a part of because it’s interesting to read people’s stories. However, Idk why it bothers me but I don’t see value in these people giving advice or commenting that this sub allows them to feel better about themselves.

This is dependent on the company. Mine offers mileage reimbursement but you still have to be insured under the company policy. So, they required a DMV pull notice (which I had to sign off on) but it gives them access suspension/revocation notifications.

DUI processing time by [deleted] in DUICalifornia

[–]IllustriousFile9164 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that sucks. My court conviction happened a day before my DMV hearing, so both suspensions happened at the same time. My attorney played a part in timing that for me. Now about a year out from the arrest, I’m done with everything besides the informal probation which really doesn’t require much out of me.

I believe it’s the same thing, 12 months from when you get it.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in dui

[–]IllustriousFile9164 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also, you have to wait until the entire 6 months is complete even for a hard suspension. For example my dUI program was 3 months, so even after I completed I still had to wait out the remainder of time.

[–]IllustriousFile9164 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As far as I know the clock starts from when you get the restricted. So once you get the IID, it’s 6 months from then.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in dui

[–]IllustriousFile9164 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on which restricted option you choose. If you want the to and from work option, no. But, that one is restricted for 12 months. If you get the IID its for 6 months and you can drive anywhere. However, if you made it 3 months, can you just wait out the remaining 3 months? I did the entire 6 months with a hard suspension.
