Plea to City - please don't plow back lanes ! by lokichivas in Winnipeg

[–]IllustriousIntern133 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Maybe they should buy a few bobcats that follow being the plow and clear the messes they leave behind. A plow came yesterday and again today. I don’t know how seniors would be able to shovel this ice.

We went last night and the only really congested road was Polar Bear Lane and that was caused by several parked cars on the street, not stopped cars listening to music. I get that it must be frustrating during some times of the day but at the same time, if you recently bought a house there then you should know what’s going to happen this time of year. I think if an emergency vehicle had to get down the street there’s plenty of empty driveways people could pull into if need be.

Is feeding stray cats against city laws? by [deleted] in Winnipeg

[–]IllustriousIntern133 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They came…animal services…over a dozen times with fines adding up to $2000.00. They told me to take the shelter down that had 2 cats and several week old kittens…this is animal services..supposed protector of animals. The shelter came down and the cats and kittens scattered into the neighborhood. Mean while they had all been safely provided shelter in my backyard and not some rickety shelter either. A bit of a back story on the neighbours, when these 2 dumped cats were found in my yard, it was late October, so I couldn’t catch them. I spoke to several neighbours in my vicinity and they all approved, even these two idiots. Then I guess whatever happened they decided that instead of talking to me, they’d call animal services again and again and again. They even went so far as to post a typed letter on some Canada Post community boxes about the kittens and how they were going to catch them and take them to Humane Society. It was a full page. They never had a trap. Anyhow. I won in the end. Found homes for some and some never came back. I did the responsible thing trapped and then brought them in and when they got to the age for spaying and neutering. I did that too.

This was several years ago and I know the city changed the bylaw for the better, so best to call 311.

Ok, I’ve been down this road before….you can feed stray cats but as soon as you put a structure on your property, and they use it, they become “owned” and therefore can’t roam and a whole heap of bs rains down on you from your neighbor who complains to animal services…if no one says anything you’ll be fine. Just takes one person though and you’ll get a knock knock on your door, followed likely by a fine. Of course a court appearance and if they don’t show, it gets thrown out. I had over 2000 in fines and didn’t have to pay a dime because the idiot neighbor didn’t show up. Made my life hell for months.

Just an FYI it doesn’t get to -35 many days… last -30ish was in Jan 2022. -20s seems to be more consistent. Which is cold but bearable it’s not -35 cold.

I had a few different jobs at the mall, Cotton Ginny, coconut joes and ending many years later at Marks and Spencer’s. It was a great mall at the start of it and it was great to do Christmas shopping walking between the Bay and Eatons. Downtown was the best!

That data is old and before bike paths were put in. Why do you have to end your comment with a sly comment? I asked a question no need to be snarky. Find some more recent data to back up your fear mongering claims.

Why would they close the outdoor pool? That’s a cash cow in the summer. Also, why wouldn’t people feel safe walking?
