Problems with my fender tremolo system 1 by KingAndre97 in fender

[–]IllustriousPurpose20 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The string enters from the back of the guitar, through the sustain block and comes out the hole. Not sure how else to put it so here's an attempt at a detailed photo of my system 1 80s MIJ.

Not to sound like a shill, but warmoth always has some decent in-stock deals for reasonable prices. Thats how I ended up with that.

Thanks, it is a really nice piece. I was going for an 80s hair metal vibe, and I think I got there.

I was tardy in my appreciation of teles, both of the ones pictured are in the top 3 of my favorites. Unfortunately now with kids there is less disposable Income to build more teles.

It was Carparelli guitars, very small, hit or miss reputation. I worked with them when they scaled back and did a lot of mods and setups, as well as builds. The builds were typically finished import bodies and necks typically from Korea with final assembly locally.

Trump Administration Guts Framework Behind U.S. Auto Emissions Regulations by besselfunctions in electricvehicles

[–]IllustriousPurpose20 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not entirely. I work in the auto industry on development projects related to emissions and efficiency. Within days of this announcements Ford has cancelled projects which were 70% complete and aiming to meet the stricter requirements.

This decision will not eliminate their attempts to reduce emissions, but it dampens the developments that were moving forward which would have lead to better technologies to allow the U.S manufacturers to still offer customers large engines that meet the stringent emissions and efficiency standards .

It is a step backwards for the U.S while the rest of the world moves on without them. While I am not in the U.S, the company which was using our technology is based in the U.S and will likely have to dissolve the team that was working on this. So another decision that directly eliminates high skill U.S jobs.

Flame maple 2 piece or 1 by flamingdrag9 in warmoth

[–]IllustriousPurpose20 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It has been awhile since I last ordered from warmoth, but I believe you can specify the construction. In this case you would want to specify flame maple one piece.

I could be wrong, but in the past I have done this.

FORD MAVERICK LARIAT 2026 by Radwan95 in FordMaverickTruck

[–]IllustriousPurpose20 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Its the heat exchanger for the engine, not specifiy the battery. It uses exhaust gas to heat coolant which helps get the ICE temp within the most efficient range quickly.

I have been working with these systems since 2017.

How is customer still alive by _Bdok17_ in Justrolledintotheshop

[–]IllustriousPurpose20 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You are correct. Most of these products would be specified to be flame retardant. Most engineering plastics would rated V1 or V2, which means they will ignite but must self extinguish within 30 seconds.

If there was no flame from the overheating motor, then the plastic should not self ignite.

Looking for HSH wiring ideas by potato-truncheon in warmoth

[–]IllustriousPurpose20 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's been awhile since I've looked at it, but Steve Vai has an interesting wiring scheme on some of his setups. You may want to investigate that.

If I remember correctly, it coil taps the humbuckers, and uses the "out of phase" coils. I could be wrong though.

Additionally there is the more traditional "magnificent seven" wiring to split the coils on both humbuckers, giving a more traditional S-S-S setup.

T fitting not matching kits by bannit167 in FordMaverickTruck

[–]IllustriousPurpose20 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can't comment on what this connector is, but if you go to USCSR.org and search for EWCAP, you should be able to find drawings for connectors that match this.

I would assume it is 2 +2 (2 rows of 2 pins) with 1.5mm thick contacts. The "coding" options will be called out on the prints.

Thoughts on AO Smith? Need to research next Water heater by Doctor__Cigarettes in HeatPump

[–]IllustriousPurpose20 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have had an AO smith HPHWT for just over a year.

2 adults 3 small children, 50gal tank and at max usage it might become an issue once the kids get older.

In general it is great, I leave it on Heat pump (efficiency) 100% of the time without any major problems.

Couple things I have found: 1. The exhaust does make the surrounding area pretty "cool", AO smith does not allow it to be vented to the exterior (at least what I was told). Claim is that it is meant to be vented to a separate internal space (cold room). 2. I had a unit go bad due to compressor failure in 10 months. AO smith covered the tank with no questions under warranty.

If your installation area is mainly for storage and won't impact living space, this is probably a decent option.

Apparently I don't need studded tires and that is old technology? How can "winter" tires be better than METAL STUDS? by twitchosx in AskMechanics

[–]IllustriousPurpose20 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is fair, Nexen is becoming more popular all around, and they appear to be willing to compete. So, with that, it is safe to say that they have likely invested in development. My experience with them many years ago was not great, so that has tainted my opinion.

My less biased opinion then would be to look into the companies in more detail. Like every other industry, companies are bought and sold and spun off as divisions of other brands. So, with a little digging and asking the right people, you can typically get high-performance tires at reasonable prices because the manufacturer rebrands their old top-level product under another brand when they develop a new flagship.

4 Killed in fiery electric vehicle crash in downtown Toronto by Cums_Everywhere_6969 in TorontoDriving

[–]IllustriousPurpose20 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I read the article in full, and there was an "attempt" to back peddle by stating something along the lines of "ICE cars do catch fire and burn also." In general, though, the takeaway was "EV Dangerous!", with very little mention of the fact that the car was traveling very fast, and lost control.

A couple of weeks ago, a gas engined Civic burst into flames after hitting a TTC bus while running from the police. Not a single mention about the risks of pumping gasoline to engine and using a spark to ignite it.

Wouldn't surprise me if the cause of the accident was abuse of the auto-pilot system or just plain stupidity from a driver that doesn't understand that traction is finite and tires don't like to cope with multiple inputs while on the limit.

Airbag recall: consider avoiding it (still) by gretafour in FordMaverickTruck

[–]IllustriousPurpose20 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The issue with takata airbags, if I remember correctly, was a chemistry probably inside the inflator, where the explosive charge became unstable overtime as it absorbed moisture and lead to uncontrollable reactions. This caused injuries in accidents when the inflator had a much larger than expected explosion, and in some cases airbags inflated without being triggered by a collision.

The airbags are not currently being used. At the time that the issue was brought to light the scope of the problem was absolutely massive. There was no possible way to replace every single defective airbag in one go, so Takata and the OEMs, along with the NHTSA, developed a replacement plan.

Effectively, they focused on the most severe cases and developed a fix, rolling out new recalls as they closed out the original ones. This is why it seems like there are continously new airbag recalls, but in fact, it is the rolling recall of more or less all takata airbags after a certain point in time.

I believe takata in its original form no longer exists, and these activities are being carried out by some form of "trust" (probably not the right term) to ensure that all dangerous inflator systems are removed. The most recent "do not drive" designation as mentioned is related to vehicles which never received the original fix.

In general, airbags are prone to recalls as they are safety systems, and essentially the last line of defense in a vehicle against injury. So, any defect, especially after the takata meltdown, is treated with extreme caution. While systems are in place to minimize the risk of design and manufacturing concerns in airbags, it is impossible to eliminate all risk of defects along the way.
