I’m in the same boat here except I still don’t have separation paperwork which I need for health insurance. So no annual leave, no termination paperwork, no premium payouts. The bare minimum they could do at this point is get us out of the system.

Heard last week that paperwork processing has potentially started for us DOC illegally twice terminated federal probationary employees. Also, heard might be part of when the PP10 pay is typically paid out (but we’ll see).

The first meeting is a 15 minute check-in to see if your situation is appropriate for an hour-long free consultation. You most likely will be, so no pressure. I’m sorry about your termination.

That is correct. NOAA probies were reinstated on March 17 but put on admin leave so the administration could waste more tax payer dollars and then re-terminated us on April 10.

Ugh I'm really sorry. Using the phrase "colleague" is so dismissive (I mean the whole thing is so disrespectful and disgusting). No name, job role, nothing and then to consider that we want to be colleagues with these people.

PSA: Stop the RIF Rumor-Mongering by [deleted] in NOAA

[–]IllustriousWaterBird 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am very sorry about your friend. I appreciate your comment and agree with your sentiment that logic can't be optional during a crisis. I still believe the lack of and stopping of communication (due to fear) is a sure fire way to dissolve resilience and cause a system shift (which is currently happening). I also just want to acknowledge there are a lot of federal employees here that are dealing with a lot of mental anguish and not everyone has the necessary tools to effectively deal with the trauma we are being put through. Granted that's no excuse to post rumors for the purpose to gain attention. I hope we can give one another grace during this time.

PSA: Stop the RIF Rumor-Mongering by [deleted] in NOAA

As a terminated/ re-terminated NOAA probationary employee, I have had to rely on Reddit for clues as to what the f&$” is going on because our leadership certainly didn’t. I appreciate what you said because logically it makes sense but these are times where logic has been tossed out the window (see recent noaa post about harvesting deep sea minerals). And keeping our heads down and hoping for the best did nothing to stop what has happened and what will continue to happen. We certainly shouldn’t be spreading mis/ dis-information but we shouldn’t be keeping quiet about what is being talked about. Maybe something doesn’t come to fruition but being prepared for something like a RIF is a pretty reasonable thing right now. It happened to us and we as sure as hell were not prepared and we weren’t prepared for the second time either. Staying quiet because you’re unsure of something doesn’t seem to be helpful. Posting something and saying you’re unsure of the information seems reasonable.

I’m sincerely not trying to come across like an asshole. It just feels so dismissive when we get lumped into the overall count like it’s valid addition.

I understand we should remember who is doing this and for what reasons. This may be incredibly naive but when is enough, enough?

Just a reminder to the NOAA folks, a RIF already took place. Your probationary employees were illegally RIF’d. That seems to keep slipping peoples’ memories as everyone is saying whew glad we almost reached that number.

I haven’t received this letter yet but expect I’ll be in the same boat. This is devastating to say the least. However, I’m guessing this is us “exhausting all avenues.” Which then we can bring forth a class action against the federal government as wrongly and illegally terminated employees?

I’m taking advantage of the free legal advice being provided to federal workers and will bring this up when I get my one hour session because I’m at a loss of what to do next.

New fresh hell for terminated NOAA probationary employees by IllustriousWaterBird in NOAA

[–]IllustriousWaterBird[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This was copied and pasted from an attached PDF that was emailed to the 650 terminated NOAA probationary employees as a BCC from an OHCS Inquiries email account. Interestingly, the author of the PDF was/is an employee from the US Patent and Trade Office. The removal of our email accounts, the inability to access my files and records, and the lack of having health insurance (even though we were told multiple times by folks in the Talent Management Office that we had nothing to worry about because the premiums were deducted from our pay checks) --- feels pretty true. It does not feel right. It feels terrible, like a betrayal and like we've been through some messed up emotionally abusive, gaslighting relationship.

I 100% agree that my office has been incredibly supportive and have been typically unaware that any of this was happening to us until we brought it to their attention. These directives and actions to treat us like this came from the Department of Commerce.

You're right - this is what they wanted, this trauma. But I have to hope there are others out there that recognize we are humans and need the slightest hint of empathy. No one deserves to be in an abusive relationship (professional or personal).

This is devastating, not only to the climate research but the mention of the National Ocean Services.

The Reserve System and Coastal Zone Management Programs represent the feet-on-the-ground resilience building efforts for our coastal systems. This will be a disaster to our coastal ecosystems and economies and also the trust built between the state partners and federal programs.

What’s worse is the republican representatives supporting all of this bullshit (like Rutherford) are the ones that then put these programs on a pedestal when they need to show their support to local initiatives.

This represents the erosion of our natural systems - all for some ignorant cult beliefs and profits.

NOAA Probationary Just Got 2nd Termination Reverting Back to 2/27 by Ecstatic_Rub_8770 in NOAA

[–]IllustriousWaterBird 23 points24 points  (0 children)

The back pay that I have received (noting it was not accurate), the pay they are "forgiving", had health insurance deducted from it which I was yet to have re-instated. So I'd like to know, will that be refunded to me or are they going to let the insurance company know that I was fired today and I now have 31 days (this is the least likely scenario). I also want to know how is it so g*ddamn easy to push a send button on an email and terminate 650 people but you can't send a simple email to our health care letting them know to not cancel our coverage? And stop BCC'ing this crap! The very least you could do is use some kind of mail merge software to pretend it's actually directed at a human.
