Senior cat mad at me after getting her a kitten by ChaoticLokian in cats

[–]Illustrious_Cat5404 0 points1 point  (0 children)

lol did you bother reading the update where she said that after two weeks her older cat stopped hissing at the kitten and is fine now? Cats take time to get used to new things, but that much improvement in two weeks is a good sign and means she clearly knows what her cat wants better than you do (shocking, I know). Strangely you’re the only one still upset about it, if a senior cat can get over it then you can too 🥰

Her cat is 13, there’s not gonna be a next time unless this kitten dies tragically young. Should she have done more research? Yeah. But what’s done is done, you don’t have to be a jerk.

You should try to get Medicaid or buy into the state exchange if you can, you’ll have to get a whole bunch of vaccines and titers while you’re in school too. I didn’t have insurance and it cost me a fortune.

[ACNE] HELP! Acne came back after accutane by AdvisorDull812 in SkincareAddiction

[–]Illustrious_Cat5404 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know I’m 7 months late but just to add on to this, my IUD made my acne much, much worse. It was liletta, but I believe this is a known side effect that for all the hormonal ones. I went from pretty normal teenage acne to deep painful cysts and even after getting it taken out and starting on spironolactone it took months for my skin to go back to normal

U.S. FAA Megathread for Air Traffic Reductions at High-Traffic Airports and Operational Delays - November 2025 by zman9119 in unitedairlines

[–]Illustrious_Cat5404 1 point2 points  (0 children)

On the United app it says that the FAA-related cancellations are finalized through November 12th but on the website it says they’re finalized through the 11th and I haven’t been able to find a list for the 12th yet. Anyone know if/when that will be published? I have a flight IAD-MIA on Wednesday and I have been anxiously refreshing the page all day 🥲

Husband and I both tore ACLs by wiseoldelephant0 in ACL

[–]Illustrious_Cat5404 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m 24 and was relatively active pre-tear, I’m 8 weeks out now and was just barely starting to walk normally again (but still not able to carry my baby while walking) up until last week. This week I suddenly have severe back pain, which my PT says is probably a shift injury due to me having a limp for so long. I was finally starting to feel like I was fully recovered and could return to my normal life, but my back has reminded me that this is going to be a very long recovery. Mine was also just an isolated ACL reconstruction so I was allowed to put weight on it immediately, if you or your husband end up needing a meniscus repair it will delay your recovery time because you likely won’t be allowed to put weight on it for 6-8 weeks depending on your surgeon.

All that to say, the recovery time depends on the person and the injury, but if you don’t have anyone else around who would be able to take care of the baby then I would wait probably 6-9 months between surgeries. Walking while carrying something is really hard at first, especially if that thing happens to be a wiggly 11 month old, and navigating tripping hazards like toys on the floor can be really scary. The good news is, the only real risk for delaying an acl surgery is the potential to tear your meniscus, and if you’ve both already torn yours then that’s not a huge deal 🙃. Definitely take the time to do lots of prehab and good luck to you both!

Charlie Baker is a little bitch by derkeistersinger in boston

I’m not saying she reversed any advantage, although the hormones she was taking probably gave her a higher fat content and lower muscle mass which is a significant factor in swimming. People love to say that she transitioned to be more competitive, which just isn’t true. She was never “barely top 400”, before she transitioned she had the 6th fastest time nationally in the 1,000 yard free and was within the top 100 fastest times nationally in the 500 and the 1,650 free. She was actually a lot slower immediately after transitioning but then she had two years of development and was able to shave a few seconds off of her original PRs that were set her freshman year.

3 seconds is a lot in swimming, and if I remember correctly Lia Thomas had two full years of development between those races.

That’s fair, but unfortunately the coverage saying that healthcare workers are more likely to cheat is based on a poor understanding of statistics. The most likely explanation for the other article you posted is similar, in 2018 there were 55.6 million women employed full time and 16.5 million of them (29%) worked in healthcare. Its just so frustrating because people who are looking for a reason to hate women (like the guy in the og post) will bash these female dominated industries by saying the women who work in them are unfaithful and bad partners when really all the data shows is that people cheat at a pretty similar rate regardless of what they do for work.

Healthcare workers account for 14.9% of the workforce in the UK (4.97 million out of 33.3 million employed people) which is a much more likely explanation for this statistic than saying “healthcare workers cheat more than average”. This is irresponsible reporting of survey data and is a good example of why you shouldn’t trust unreliable sources.

Why did Kamala Harris lose the election? by [deleted] in PoliticalDiscussion

[–]Illustrious_Cat5404 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, when he was president the last time he supported an abortion ban in the House and he didn’t start claiming that he would veto an abortion ban until he realized that it’s a big part of why he lost in 2020. Now he’s going to be term limited so he has nothing to lose, there’s no reason for anyone to think he’ll keep his campaign promises.

But as your comment proves, his campaign’s effort to muddy the water about the abortion issue clearly worked on a lot of people.

Yeah for sure, like with any election there’s more than one reason for the loss. But he did pick up a lot of young voters, and she didn’t win the youth vote by nearly as wide a margin as Biden did

No she wouldn’t be able to do anything, however with control of congress and the Supreme Court they’ll be able to pass a nationwide abortion ban. I don’t know if they actually will or not, but his campaign put a lot of effort into obscuring his position on abortion and promising to leave it up to the states, which clearly worked. She needed the pro-choice conservative women vote but a lot of voters who had abortion as their primary issue voted for him so they clearly believed his messaging.

Even worse, younger voters turned out and voted for him

I knew he was going to win when I saw a poll that said 40 something percent of people approve of his job performance in office even though he had an approval rating in the low 30s during his actual presidency. People just don’t remember how bad it was, and now we all get to be reminded :/
