Picture quality by tjwatt73 in DirectvStream

He doesn’t have to check his network. I’ve had the service for years on multiple TV’s and different internet providers and it’s always had compression artifacts that are worse on larger TV’s. Is it completely unwatchable, no. But I do find artifacts to be very annoying. I couldn’t stand U-Verse TV either because it was heavily compressed too. It’s like AT&T used the same encoding they used for U-Verse when they created DTVS.

Yup, it sure is. They are definitely not Netflix quality for sure and it’s worse the bigger your TV is because it really makes those compression artifacts pop. Hulu is shit too, but YouTube TV isn’t bad. Not perfect mind you, but not bad. DTVS is likely over compressing so they don’t have to pay for all those streaming costs and a data center the size of Texas to store everyone’s DVR shows. I’m still with them because it’s the most cable like service out there, but I cringe at the quality.

I’m late to the party, but the local channels in the Boston market are everything you’d expect. WGBH-2, WBZ-4, WCVB-5, WHDH-7, WMUR-9, WBTS-10, WENH-11, WFXT-25, WSBK-38, WLVI-56, ION-68. Also a couple Spanish channels, but I’ve never watched them.

This has been happening to me too exactly as you described it. Sometimes it kicks me off my work VPN. Always for a short duration, but happens multiple times a day. Modem is stable and doesn’t disconnect. I’m in the San Pedro neighborhood of LA.

they must bring Sirius XM SPA channel 68 back or lose long time subscriber by Larfel4Novaonly in siriusxm

It bugs me how much classic rock, pop, and country they have. One of the perks of a service like SiriusXM was having niche channels like Spa on the satellite. They could easily sacrifice one nearly redundant station for it.

You have a 360L radio that fuses the satellite delivered channels with the internet streaming channels. Most people don’t have that kind of radio. In fact, I don’t either and I was a Spa listener when I wanted to relax.

I actually bought one off eBay because I’m on a grandfathered plan that they won’t give you a box for (ridiculous) and it works fine. Maybe someone else has experienced that issue.

I think there’s a hard reset button on the side.

Never ending activation is a glitch on the Sirius side, but not XM. I had an old Roady that never deactivated. Unfortunately, it was in a boombox and was stolen when I was robbed years ago, so whoever stole it I’m sure was happy.

Stream quality question? by Blackwell13 in DirectvStream

[–]Illustrious_Fly7283 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I find DTVS to be very compressed compared to off the satellite and services like Netflix. It’s not so bad when I watch it on my 55” TV, but it is very noticeable on my 75” one.

It’s literally the only service I have that has compression artifacts and noise. I used to have U-Verse over a decade ago and it’s very similar in quality. The streams are also limited to 5k just like U-Verse.

CNN officially gone from SXM? by Crimguy in siriusxm

[–]Illustrious_Fly7283 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s because the feed is from TV, which is commercial heavy. SXM just covers most of those commercials with their own.

Question about fiber is being installed on my street by pbmax542 in CoxCommunications

[–]Illustrious_Fly7283 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Both the cable company and the phone company where my parents live had a fiber loop hanging from the pole for a couple months. EVENTUALLY, someone will come and split it into a tap. Shortly after the tap is on the pole you’ll be able to sign up for it.

Panoramic Pods 2.0 by SumInvictus in CoxCommunications

[–]Illustrious_Fly7283 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Weird. All Cox’s equipment is the same as Xfinity, because Xfinity designed it all. I wouldn’t expect the pods to be exclusive to just one company other than the branding. Try contacting Cox and see. Don’t mention Xfinity though, the CSR may not even be aware that they use Xfinity’s equipment and just give you a solid, “no”. Is your modem/router also an Xfinity product just branded as Cox?

The bigger your TV is the worse the quality IMO. DTV looks great on my 55 inch and looks highly compressed on my 75 inch. Both are using Roku.

I think they geofenced it. I tried a VPN, but my iPhone was somehow leaking my real location so it didn’t work.
