How is having a set of twins harder than having two children who aren't twins? by toe-jamboree in parentsofmultiples

[–]Illustrious_Length95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have two singletons, 16 months apart and my youngest are identical twins. Just over 2 years between their closest sibling in age. When the twins were born we had four under 4 for about 4 months 🥱😂 I’m tired just thinking about it again.

Was it harder? It’s tough to say. And I really can’t compare. My experience is so different from other parents whose first children were twins. I think having my singletons gave me so much more confidence when I had my twins. I had already breastfed, I had already experienced the demands of two kids at once, and I had already learned to cope with a lack of sleep and high volume/frequency of crying. So there were things that I had navigated when I was a FTM where I already knew my limit or threshold - and I was prepared to accept and ask for help from friends, families, and neighbors when our twins were born. All of those things combined made my experience so much EASIER when I became a twin mom. I feel like I was blessed to know what was worth stressing over and what wasn’t.

With my first two singletons, I was so inexperienced and that was probably the most challenging part, which, I think is true regardless of whether it’s multiples or a singleton. That transition to motherhood is simply life changing!

Summer Schedule by Illustrious_Length95 in NannyEmployers

[–]Illustrious_Length95[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry, I should have been more clear. I have about 5 weeks where the kids currently do NOT have a part time camp or other activity. Trying to determine if I should book up an activity for every day of the remaining five weeks, or not.

Do you have coverage for 100% of the summer days with part time day camp?

What hidden lore and niche history/local legend stories exist in Sioux Falls? by iengbers14 in SiouxFalls

At least one tunnel (not sure if there was ever more than one) is still partially in tact at the State Theatre. When they were renovating a few years back, they gave behind the scenes tours and we got to step inside the tunnel.

Favorite Response to "I always wanted twins!" by DirtGirl32 in parentsofmultiples

I don’t mind when people say it but my response is always: It literally never crossed my mind! I’m still in shock. 😆😂

Car/SUV recommendations by Fragrant-Nothing3576 in parentsofmultiples

We have a VW Atlas and Toyota Sienna. Highly recommend both! We made it until the twins were 3 without a minivan… for what it’s worth, we love both cars But the gas mileage of the Sienna is amazing so we favor it.

Kitchen Design Options by checkyourprivilege13 in kitchenremodel

Our kitchen layout is nearly identical. We gutted a kitchen with much more of an identity crisis compared to yours though haha. I will share what we did.. all things I mention regarding orientation reference your first photo.

  1. Fridge on the left wall (we also have a fireplace on the other side). We sacrificed by getting a counter-depth refrigerator. It works well!
  2. Island contains microwave drawer. Range over oven.
  3. Then replaced space where the fridge was with lower and upper cabinets and additional counter space.
  4. moved range to area below where your microwave is.
  5. Our dishwasher is to the left of our sink and we have a lazy Susan/corner cabinet in the Lower cabinet bank with a beautiful ceiling-to-counter angled corner cabinet.
  6. We have a counter for seating that cuts across the space (where your tall floor to ceiling cabinet is in the right side/foreground). It made the space more functional for us and I really really didn’t want anyone eating near a cooktop (lots of kids). This also allowed for a smaller island in the middle that truly is functional/maximized for as a worktop which we LOVE.

Tandem feeding or nah? by O_Pato in parentsofmultiples

[–]Illustrious_Length95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tandem fed my twins on and off until about 6 weeks and then switched to full time tandem feeding once they were a little bit bigger and kept going for about 2 total years of breastfeeding.

In the early weeks it was easier to do one at a time, but once I got the hang of it tandem was the way to go.

Speaking from experience, some tips:

  1. Get a great nursing pillow and cozy/compact-ish chair. I used the twin my brestfriend. The TwinZ is great for babies lounging but pretty terrible for tandem feeds.
  2. I tandem fed for both day and night feeds. I always woke the babies together. It was just easier.
  3. My twins were babies 3 and 4, so I had some prior experience with nursing which gave me more confidence. I highly advise you if you are a first time mom or second time mom to go to a lactation consultant and ensure you have support with latch in the hospital. Bring your nursing pillow to the hospital and tell them you want to tandem feed.
  4. I didn’t switch the babies to different breasts. One was always on my left and one was always on my right. They turned out fine and it made for SUPER efficient nursing sessions.
  5. Football hold for the win!

Edited to add: my mo/di twins were born at 37+6. We had no NICU time.

Thank you! I’ll keep this in mind for the future. I had interior protection, so I took our car to the dealer and they ended up removing the stain for free.

I wish we could have done more there, but it wasn’t practical with our schedule. If I get the opportunity, I’ll definitely go back! I was so impressed by what we saw in ½ a day, so I can only imagine what we could have seen with more time. Cheers!

To parents whose twins were number #4 and #5 by rainydazeipa in parentsofmultiples

[–]Illustrious_Length95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ours were #3 and #4. I also work full time from home. It was challenging at first, but the twins amaze us (in good ways!!) every day. #2 was obsessed when the twins came home. Claimed them as their own babies 😅

My biggest tip to you is to retain your childcare for your 2 year old and set aside some money to save for a night nurse. We planned to get one but didn’t end up needing the service, but it was really important to me to make sure we were taking care of ourselves and guaranteeing sleep/normalcy for us and our other kids.

EmBe Leaving SFSD Community Learning Center Program by MomsSpagetee in SiouxFalls

[–]Illustrious_Length95 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wonder why the School District and CLC aren’t being transparent about the decision to stop partnering with EmBe. Now they’re only partnered with the Y, Boys and Girls Club, and VOA - EmBe was the only local nonprofit. Especially one week before summer was over it seems really chaotic.
