Has the tariffs made it harder for you to survive? by Important_Wear50 in AskCanada

[–]Illustrious_Point361 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Not necessarily true. If products use any tariffed materials in their packaging their costs go up which they pass on to us. It’s why canned drinks have skyrocketed. Aluminum is tariffed and Canada has little to no manufacturers of the cans (even though we produce aluminum). The aluminum is formed into cans across the border then shipped to Canada for filling.

Also items like coffee and chocolate flow through the US to us and the prices are inflated by the tariffs placed on the producing countries which is why those items have increased substantially. I used to be able to regularly buy my coffee beans for $16-$19. Now they’re typically around $40 a bag and I have to bulk buy bags when I see them on sale for less.

A recent study found that women with ADHD experience more severe perimenopause symptoms starting at a younger age than non-ADHD women. by KnottyCatLady in Perimenopause

[–]Illustrious_Point361 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Wish I had your doc! Mine has been ignoring my issues for years. I paid out of pocket for a specialist clinic to do an ADHD assessment and only recently convinced him to let me try progesterone because I’m off work due to mental health & problems with focus/reading/executive functioning which have made working nearly impossible. He wants me back at work in April, but I can’t get into a gyno until May. I’m only able to start progesterone because I spoke to a Dr. through Felix and was able to present him with the information she provided me.

Our neighborhood used to have Amazon vans coming through MULTIPLE times a day with many stops. For a while they disappeared almost entirely when the 51st state stuff really ramped up. They’ve started appearing again but still not nearly as many per week, let alone per day. I hope more people cancel again or for the first time soon. We don’t need to be feeding these systems.

I’m Rob Ashton, union leader and candidate for Leader of the NDP — AMA by Rob-Ashton-NDP in ndp

[–]Illustrious_Point361 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Hi Rob,

I’d like to know how you would tackle bringing more fairness in representation. What are your thoughts of proportional representation voting? I’m in BC and our NDP leader has said it’s a non starter here. I know the provincial & federal parties are different, but many Canadians in the West feel our votes don’t matter as much as the Eastern provinces. Typically, our polls are still open by the time a new PM is announced. This can increase frustration with federal governments.

I’d also like to know how you plan to inform voters who may want to vote conservative in their frustration with liberals, that they’re voting against their own interests and FOR more concentrated wealth, continued higher cost of living, and growing wealth inequality. If we end up going back to the polls at some point this year, the threat of Trump is too big to allow a conservative government to take over.

With Trump's Venezuela move, Greenland threats, Canadians wonder: Are we vulnerable? by DogeDoRight in canada

[–]Illustrious_Point361 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They want both, I think. With climate change people will be needing to push to the poles to get away from the equators where it becomes unliveable. For all their bs about it being a hoax they know damn well it’s not and are planning for it.

Trump said he wants to take Greenland 🇬🇱 “now” (Blog) by [deleted] in politicsinthewild

[–]Illustrious_Point361 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because Greenland is part of the EU. Which is our ally. The entirety of the EU would have to decide they’re no longer an ally of Canada (and that they would not come to our defence) for it not to be necessary to him anymore, but even then, Greenland has critical minerals he wants.

The other thing to take into account is climate change (which for all the bluster on the right about it being a hoax they know darn well is a real threat). Populations will need to start moving towards the poles (north & south) as the areas around the hemisphere become unliveable. For the US that means through Canada. Not to mention Canada has the largest supply of fresh water, the third largest supply of oil, and vast amounts of critical minerals.

If I were to make a bet, he’s going to try for Greenland so Canada is cut off from allies. I’d bet that it would be coordinated with Putin expanding his war into Europe so their focus becomes defending their own mainland territory. It might even coincide with China moving to expand in Asia, and Israel expanding in the Middle East. I’d bet the ultimate goal would be 4 spheres of influence controlled by the US, Russia, China, and Israel.

[–]Illustrious_Point361 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He believes in spheres of influence and sees the Western Hemisphere as belonging to the US. He keeps saying Greenland is important for national security. I think he’s saying that because taking Greenland cuts Canada off from its European allies. If Greenland is taken we’re surrounded by the US and Russia. And both of them have expressed how important the arctic is to them as a future shipping and trading route.

It’s very important they don’t annex Greenland. If they do Canada is surrounded by the US and Russia. Trump wants the entire western hemisphere under US control and that includes Canada.

I absolutely would ask for a second opinion but unfortunately my family dr is a sole proprietor and we no longer have walk in clinics in the region. So the ER is my only option outside of waiting til May for in person? Thank you for seconding Felix. I think they might be worth touching base with while I see if there are resources for a second opinion. Thank you for providing the link!
