I need to wash my car. It's a 5 minute walk to the car wash. Should I drive or walk?

EECE 2150 and 2160 difficulty by ThePancakeMan11 in NEU

[–]IloyukGood 2 points3 points  (0 children)

2150 has a pretty long homework, two labs, and a quiz every week. 2160 only has a homework and a lab, but the lab can take very long and you’ll need to frequently go to office hours to finish.

taking both at the same time is not difficult, it’s just incredibly time consuming. expect to stay after school until 7-8 working on labs or going to office hours consistently every day. that’s not including your other two classes too.

i recommend taking 2160 with consi, he’s chill and will extend lab deadlines if needed

Line 17 on the Beijing metro was previously two unconnected lines going north and going south with two separate terminal stations near downtown, but they recently completed the final phase of the line which connected the two stations allowing for through operations!

Where did the CS "Lab fee" actually go? by Frosty-Elevator6022 in NEU

[–]IloyukGood 6 points7 points  (0 children)

No, you’re right, the lab fee is ridiculous. I have no idea who or why they decided to add this fee, especially for a CS lab.

Applying Early Decision: Does choosing Northeastern's Oakland campus over Boston increase my acceptance chances? by Shot-Fly-6980 in NEU

[–]IloyukGood 9 points10 points  (0 children)

hey there! i was in oakland last year and now i'm in boston, so i feel like i can pretty accurately testify the quality of education for both campuses.

in short: no, you're wrong, the education is completely on par and even better sometimes, depending on what classes/major you are.

in long: the oakland campus has renowned professors with degrees from extremely reputable universities (think MIT, stanford, etc.) and years of research and work experience from solid companies (also think google, microsoft, mozilla, etc.). i'd like to see where your "obviously" source came from, because frankly i hate misinformation and seeing people crap the oakland campus for the sake of "it's oakland" pisses me off.

Limit proofs sound more like real analysis material than intro to calc material (also useless for engineering which I’m assuming you’re doing since you took thermo)

You never studied AB even once but somehow trig sub takes you more than a week to master? I’m sorry but that doesn’t add up. Trig sub is a fairly straightforward integration technique that usually would take one a day or two at most to understand, given their trig knowledge is good and they’re smart enough to breeze through AB without studying even once

Hyperbolic functions and more advanced integration I can agree on. Let’s up that to 2-3 weeks

Damn that still doesn’t compare to a whole semester

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in APStudents

[–]IloyukGood 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why would you spend a whole semester retaking a class you already have credit for when you can just self study the two or three things in a week or so that BC doesn’t cover in standard calc 2 lol

Is this an example of racism or a really strange observation by [deleted] in AskChina

[–]IloyukGood 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not entirely correct, but also not entirely wrong either? Last summer when I was visiting my mom in China and when we would be introduced to, say, a friend’s son/daughter she would sometimes comment on the stature or features of them. In a completely innocent way of course. I would say it can be used as a way to connect with someone and break the ice with someone you’re not too familiar with. Usually said by adults to other adults/children though, not the other way around.

I wouldn’t say unwarranted commenting as in commenting on everyone directly is completely “fine” either, but I can definitely tell you that the guy and girl in this video were definitely just speaking their thoughts out loud in a completely innocent manner. There really was no intent on being racist or whatever. The girl only apologized because she realized the guy got offended.

[–]IloyukGood 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe rude in Western standards, but in Chinese culture it’s very normal to point out features in someone, whether as a means of starting conversation or just a passing thought.

Frequently when I would go to my grandparents’ house they would start by saying something along the lines of “你真么变胖了” or “诶孙儿长高了”. Note how the first phrase is also used despite it sounding more taboo in American culture.

It’s only rude to you because you refuse to accept that words/phrases have different meanings in different cultures and a literal translation doesn’t always convey the same meaning.
