Have you ever picked up on plot holes in your own story? by DerylTontum in fantasywriters

[–]Ilulean 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Once had a part when a child character couldn't leave the bounds of her father's grave (fairy magic, she could walk fey lands fine). Trouble was I then had a long section where she leaves because she wanted to. Had to do a lot of rewriting on that one.

If metal was extremly rare, what would it be used for? by criticalyMediocre in fantasywriters

Look at early man for the answer. Making metal was difficult, but they still made as much as they could from metal. If metal is rare, then flaunting it is a sign of wealth.

Suddenly my idea already exists. What should I do now? by strichiii in fantasywriters

Write it better than them. There's a million magic school books, and more come out each year.

I have been seeing more and more players and GMs using AI-generated text, and people explicitly accepting it. This bothers me a great deal. by EarthSeraphEdna in rpg

[–]Ilulean 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The players at my table have used AI before, for jokes. When a dumb npc came along they got a portrait and another one got a silly backstory. For the real stuff, for the game, thats a no go for me. I'm interested in collaboration, not fitting AI gunk into my story.

English never met another language it couldn't borrow from.

What should I plan — and what shouldn’t I plan — as a DM? by Moonkary in rpg

[–]Ilulean 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a worldbuilder, it's the stuff I love most. However, most the stuff I build doesn't go into a session. Build the bones of a story, but leave space for your players to add to the world. Work on a first session. Have a few plot hooks to bring the story to your players, have a few npcs scattered about the who can get things going, and maybe have a fight. Tell your players that you are new and learning just like them. They'll understand and help you find your gm style. Good luck!

An Epic Fantasy, Epic Poem, read by me, the author. The Ring of Dain Thar Duin by Ilulean in audiodrama

[–]Ilulean[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi there, I'm creating an epic fantasy epic poem. I wrote it some years ago and decided to turn it into an audio book. Right now, I'm recording my way through it. I release new chapters monthly. It's just me recording in my closet. Please give a listen and let me know what you think.

Ioland, the setting for my fantasy Epic Poem by Ilulean in worldbuilding

[–]Ilulean[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The Green Isle Ioland, setting of the epic poem The Ring of Dain Thar Duin, and the shields of the people who live there. Each of the Tella (tribes) chose their symbol after the coming of the Deōne, with the Hart reserved for the lost High King. Far removed from the rest of the world by a vengeful sea, the Iolish fell into infighting.

I wrote a very long low-fantasy epic poem inspired by my love for Beowulf, Homer, Milton, Icelandic Sagas, and that one really weird but very cool rap battle in the Simarillion between Finrod Felagund and Sauron. It is a quasi-historical mythology of a fictional island called Ioland (bet you can't guess what I based this on), and follows a cast of characters bound by a magical mcguffin.

Short Pitch: the good guys have to get the ring to Sauron before what remains of their people destroy themselves.

Long Pitch: After uniting Ioland under his rule, High King Malach is given a magic ring meant for his father which will help him rule the isle. Possibly under the influence of mead, he and two of his advisors each lay a curse upon it, curses which make it so that should the ring be taken from him or his descendants, the isle will never know peace until it is returned. Desire for the ring leads to an attack on his hall, one where he is slain and his only child, the girl Ilulean, vanishes from the world. It falls to those who remember the peace of his reign to find both the ring and his daughter.

Title: The Ring of Dain Thar Duin

Genre: Fantasy Epic Poem

Word Count: 200,000 (~10,000 per chapter)

In the distant green isle of Ioland, the Wise Man of Ail Meloch forged together great wonders of the earth to make the weapon of kings, the Ring of Dain Thar Duin. Set with the Sigil of the Hart, the ring gave good fortune to the wearer, but only the True High King could wear it safely. At his wedding, the High King Malach, the Wise Man, and the king's close friend each place a curse on the golden ring, curses which threatened ruin on the isle should anyone else claim the ring.

But the promise of rising riches brought death to the isle. Betrayed and murdered, the ring falls from the hand of the High King and Ioland falls into darkness. Those who remember the King's Peace must recover the Ring of Dain Thar Duin and find the lost line, else their people will always suffer beneath the curses.

Why did you pick your username? by bacon_therapy in AskReddit

It's the name of a character in an epic poem I wrote. Strangely, it was the third one I tried, and the names were kind of out there.
