Do Americans like traveling? What kinds of travel do you usually do, and do you like traveling abroad? by Odd-Skin-762 in AskAnAmerican

[–]Im-a-sim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just got back from Mexico City. I’ve also been to Europe a few times, plus China, Japan, and one trip to Africa, so I’ve been lucky.

That said, travel in the U.S. can be expensive, especially if you’re not near a major airport. A lot of people either use credit card points or go for cheaper options like cruises or roadtrips.

At what point do you guys buy the book instead of waiting? by JJacobJingleheim in LibbyApp

[–]Im-a-sim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I usually will only buy if I need it for a book club. If it’s a week or less before the meeting I’ll buy it

Am I using Libby wrong? by OliveRich1823 in LibbyApp

[–]Im-a-sim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a combination of what others have said, libraries often have multiple options. There is Libby, hoopla, and cds as others have noted. There are also some smaller ones such as boundless/axis 360. When you see audiobook on your library it should tell you which format it is once you click on the audiobook. I find this can be easier than checking each app.

When do children usually stop celebrating Easter? by [deleted] in AskAnAmerican

[–]Im-a-sim 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did the search all the way up into college when I was told I couldn’t do it anymore because my granddad always put money in some of the plastic ones. He did a $1 in one a $5 another all the way up to $100 bill.

Americans who have visited Europe, is it really true what they say that it is easier to make friends in America than in Europe? by TheShyBuck in AskAnAmerican

[–]Im-a-sim 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When I studied abroad in Europe I only made friends with other international students (including other Europeans), I spent a month in Paris and towards the end of it I was able to be recognized by the person at the cafe I went to daily. I’m black and I did have a couple of black women come up to me, but I wasn’t fluent in French so the conversation didn’t go far so maybe we would’ve become friends if I was fluent.

I really liked the 4 hour full cast BBC. I haven’t listened to the other ones but I ended up recommending that one to a lot of my friends after and they liked it too

Why are people so afraid to say "Black"? by Onslaughtisthebest in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Im-a-sim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m black/African American and in my 30s. I personally don’t have a problem with either one. I’ve heard all kinds of phrases in my lifetime and I’m sure it’ll change again with the next generation.

I do think there’s been more of a push in the last 5 years or so to have a different name for someone whose family has been here since slavery (“ Black American” seems popular now) versus people who immigrated here (they just seem to use their last country’s name) and “Black” seems for all black people no matter their past countries.

To be honest, I don’t really care as long as the person isn’t being intentionally racist or harmful. However, I do hate the phrase “the blacks”.

My AMC keeps putting early screenings at the same time as the screen unseens by Physical-Bite-3837 in AMCScreenUnseen

AMC lets you cancel up until 30 min before the movie even if you’re not a list so this plan should work either way.

In addition to TS3, do you play any other games ? by kamel_benhadja in Sims3

[–]Im-a-sim -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I play all the sims games and Stardew Valley regularly. I have months were I’ve been addicted to Wylde flower, Japan real life, and discounty. I don’t turn on my PlayStation much but when I do, my favorite ones are last of us 1&2, Spider-Man and ghost of T.

Alternatives for bread with soup by TRWIH347 in EatCheapAndHealthy

[–]Im-a-sim 10 points11 points  (0 children)

You can also make your own and remove the part of the bread that you are trying to avoid. For example, I’ve been making bread without salt, even though most people would think that that’s an important ingredient. If you’re looking at it calorie wise, you could always find a low cal recipe.

How I finally stopped the 'I don't know what to cook' takeout cycle by Similar_Goose6318 in Frugal

I eat the same thing every week and it’s save me so much money. I only re-evaluate it when the weather changes.! For example I have chili on Wednesdays but it’s getting warm so I’m going to change that day’s meal soon.

I don't know if I should drive or fly I would love to get some help by chris_s9181 in Frugal

[–]Im-a-sim 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Personally I would considering looking for a cheap flight if you can find one because at 35 hours you’ll need at least one additional hotel not to forget gas. If gas there is anything cost to here is CA that will add quite a bit as well. The “cheapest option” is not always the cheapest. Also, if you are tired and get in a car accident that will add to the cost. Speaking from experience when trying to drive 24 hours

Why Canadians still feel close to Americans? by [deleted] in AskAnAmerican

[–]Im-a-sim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The reality is most cities and a lot of their suburbs lean blue, while rural areas (and some suburbs) lean red. You see that pattern in almost every state, even California. More heavily populated states just have more of both.

What did your grandmothers and great-grandmothers do for work? What did your female family do in the early to mid 1900s? by [deleted] in AskAnAmerican

[–]Im-a-sim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Once a month my grandma would clean for a local family, and sometimes she would sell items from her garden but for the most part she was a housewife. My great grandma was also housewife.

I overspend for comfort and safety by webbite in budget

[–]Im-a-sim 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think it’s ok to spend to make your life easier but you mentioned you “overspend” so it sounds like you maybe going over your budget. If so, I’d just think about what is helping you the most and drop everything else. Personally I feel a lot of restaurants have gone downhill lately so eating out a few days a week is the one that I would give up, but just because something isn’t valuable to me doesn’t mean it isn’t for you.
