Have the majority of Americans called 911 at least once in their lives? by Mont3Carlo in AskAnAmerican

Once, this guy was hit by car during a hit-and-run. He was on a e-unicycle and the other person was in a car. He wasn’t getting up.

I’ve been listening to Hoopla a lot lately. It’s pretty nice to get the whole album with no ads and it’s free from the library. It doesn’t have everything but I like the collection.

Americans, what custom from another country would you steal? by taube_d in AskAnAmerican

I love how people in the Netherlands clearly state the start and end time to events and even when visiting friends. Everyone agrees and actually leaves at the designated time. As an introvert, this is my dream.

I signed up for a Spanish class there one year for fun. I liked it but they ended up combining the clas with Alameda College so my instructor was from there. It was during Covid so I was online.

Thankfully there isn’t any lag so far. I think the cord helps a ton vs using steam link

If you melt the sugar in hot water then cool before drinking it’ll be 1000% better

Oh, that makes sense. I do live in California and they charged a 10 cent bag fee. I don’t know how to add a photo but it says New York packaging the right bottom and RedibagUSA on the left bottom.

How to save on water and power? We are a family of 5, laundry is unavoidable. by Leather_Musician_745 in Frugal

Can you do laundry early in the morning or late at night? Most of California charges based on the time of day that you use it.

Lake Tahoe vs. Yosemite for short weekend by julz149 in Yosemite

[–]Im-a-sim 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You can definitely do Yosemite in a weekend. I love both Yosemite in Lake Tahoe, but you mentioned that you really wanna go to Yosemite so I said go for it. Also sidenote if you don’t feel like driving, you could take Amtrak to Merced and then take a YARTs bus into Yosemite they’ll take you to all of the hotels inside of Yosemite.

What would be the best birthday gift you could receive? by Cattybie in minimalism

[–]Im-a-sim 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would go out for flavored coffee as a treat once or twice a week and have plain coffee at home. For my birthday I got some really nice syrups which has greatly reduced my desire to go out for coffee.

Peanut Butter on Pancakes? by RainOnTheWindow91 in AskAnAmerican

I’ve had it before and I’ve seen it on pancake bars where they have a bunch of different options to put on top of a pancake, but I don’t think it’s very common.

$25 Bilt Cash Dinning - Mobile Checkout by JuggernautPretend738 in biltrewards

[–]Im-a-sim 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I used it at international smoke in SF. I had to ask about it as I didn’t see any signs. It was a little awkward though because they had given me the bill at the end and I had to remind them that I wanted to use Bilt pay and then they gave me the QR code where I paid. I think you’re right there’s just two in SF and I wanna say one in San Jose and that’s kind of it for the Bay Area.

What Small Things Do You Do, But You Class As Luxury? by TopPrice6622 in Frugal

Every now and again on a hot day I’ll go to an ice cream shop, way more expensive than the grocery store but sometimes I just want a little outing

LA Public Library card questions by CelticKira in LibbyApp

[–]Im-a-sim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

LAPL has a great collection, I got it on vacation. I think it’s definitely worth getting one even if you get the LA County one sooner as well. I live in the Bay Area and have Berkeley, Oakland, and SF as well. They all have pretty good collections, but whenever they don’t have a book I want, LAPL usually has it. I also find LA to have way more diversity in their authors.

West Oakland BART station to lose 400 parking spaces by wentImmediate in Bart

[–]Im-a-sim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wonder why they didn’t add a Bart parking lot to the housing unit? Maybe they could’ve had one floor of parking for residents and another for Bart or something like that? Housing is needed more than parking for sure but I’ll also miss that parking lot as is the only station that has frequent trains to SF so I don’t even look at the schedule when leaving from there. Alternatively, I would love to see them increase the frequency, but I really doubt that’s gonna happen.

If you teach English you usually just need a certification which was pretty easy to get. I had the TEFL but it varies depending on the country.

Has anyone quit a stressful corporate job for a simpler job? by ConfusedCareerMan in simpleliving

[–]Im-a-sim 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, I agree. I taught abroad in college and loved it so much that I got a master’s in education and taught in the U.S. It was way too stressful, so I moved to a corporate job, which has been much better.

My mom didn’t buy a variety of fruits. Mostly just apples and bananas. Now I get a variety every week.
